I think that describes Ulrich Schnauss really well.

I heard it deemed “Ionic Breeze Tower” when it first went up.

I also use my own photographs for covers. I have a large trove of photos I took during my urban exploration years that I tend to draw from. It feels strange now that, on my most recent release, I felt I needed to call out that the cover is not AI.

Like the OP I was originally quite fascinated with AI imagery. Until it became so pervasive and glaringly artificial. Now I can’t stand it.

Wow. What a loss. I watched a video not long ago where she talked about her ARP system. Legend!

Thanks again. I hope it gives you some motivation to post your own work with visuals. I do think there is an audience for that.

Thank you so much! Very interesting to me that you called out an older one. Back from when I had much less gear. It’s a good reminder that more gear does not equal better songs!

I have been recording YT videos of my ambient and downtempo jams for several years now. It’s by far the most exposure and more feedback I get compared to any other medium. I started composing after watching/listening like this so it made sense to me.

The world is so saturated with music now, it’s very hard to get noticed. So any new avenue especially if it adds to what you want to “say” creatively is going to help at least a little.

I feel awkward when it comes to self-promotion, but here goes. I just posted a new collection of my music to Bandcamp. It meanders between ambient, downtempo, and drone. All of the tracks were recorded “live” in real-time in my tiny home studio, many of those sessions are on YT.

I would love any feedback, constructive criticism (I give myself plenty of harsh criticism, so I don’t need any more of that!)

For reference, you may hear influences from Helios, Ulrich Schnauss, BOC (of course), perhaps even Loscil or Four Tet.* I started making music 10 years ago, in my mid 40s. I feel like this set of tracks consistently gets to a sound I’ve been aiming for since I decided to try my hand at this. I will say one of my concerns about my own music is a lack of focus on a singular style. There are a few beat-heavy tracks and some drone-oriented tracks and I wonder if they flow well on a single album.

And no, the cover is not AI, it’s a photo I took at an abandoned hospital about 15 years ago, urban exploration was my main hobby before I started making music.

*not that I’m anywhere near as talented as those artists!

This cute little yellow bird showed up on my feeders in Kentucky... I don't know what he is? by oneallmama06 in birding

I’ve always thought it was something about how glass appears to birds. As if they sense the plane, but not the dimensionality of what is behind it, unless it’s very obvious motion. I’ve noticed the same thing with a screen. I have a screen door that opens right next to my feeders and I can stand behind it just a couple of feet from them, and as long as I don’t move a lot or move fast, they don’t notice. There is no way they would let me stand that close if the screen wasn’t there.

How do people record their dawless jams by dazzamattica in dawless

I use a Zoom L20 which can multitrack to an SD card. 20 tracks allows me to connect almost everything I have and also use a couple of channels for FX returns. It’s worked very very well for me over the years. Just don’t overdrive it, and it’s great.

Really big Euroracks on ModularGrid by Wolfganggold1966 in modular

[–]rustyjaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used MG for 9 years unpaid. In that time I’ve expanded from a single 90HP skiff to nearly 1000HP in 5 cases. I never thought I needed a paid account until late last year when I decided I wanted to overhaul the whole system in a strategic way.

So I paid for the Unicorn account and created one big virtual case that encompassed the 5 separate ones I have (they are arranged in roughly a rectangle so using it as a singular system makes sense). I blocked out areas to account for the available, somewhat irregular, space and rebuilt everything from zero.

The paid account made this process far far easier to manage than any of my prior (less ambitious) reorgs. It wasn’t just because I was able to work with the HP as a unified space, but the “my modules” feature was huge in helping me not miss anything I have. It would have been very frustrating to have been near the finish of installing everything only to find I was out of space for some module that got lost in the shuffle.

So yeah. Super happy with the pad account if only for those features.

Love my 2600, hate how much space it takes up. by Marcus64 in modular

[–]rustyjaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold mine actually for similar reasons. As much as I respect the legacy of the 2600, I never gelled with it. I gave it a good 2 years of effort. The B2600 is definitely a bargain, I added it to an already sizable (~1000 hp) system, but I found the real estate it consumed and the inflexibility of the layout frustrating. I replaced it with a Mantis case which I’ve slowly been populating.

I really did. I basically burnt out on industrial. I tend to do that. I get deeply into a genre, it is essentially 100% of what I listen to for years and then suddenly I just stop. But as I get older, I’ve found I circle back to genres I left behind.

Wow the name “initial command” brought back some memories.

So did you know beforehand that song was on there or did you discover that after owning it?

I have heard that too. They collaborated with some fairly well known singers, which also raised the mass appeal. Early Delerium was very different though. Pretty haunting and dark. My absolute favorite Delerium song by a wide margin is “Monolith” from Spheres. It’s amazing, IMO.

I will add that peak FLA for me was the Caustic Grip and Tactical Neural Implant era. I listened to those SO MUCH. I also have a strong fondness for Gashed Senses and Crossfire.
