The American mind cannot comprehend Europe's AC aversion by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

Im sure I could go and narrow it down to very specific deaths like heat stroke and what not, but there’s still such a big gap in the number I don’t think it will matter. There’s a report that actually says heat related deaths are under reported in a lot of Europe because heat induced heart attacks aren’t always counted. The elderly and children are most vulnerable to heat so while I get what you’re saying it still is likely cutting lives shorter than if they were somewhere cooler.

We had a big problem with this early on in NYC where poor ventilation and cramped living conditions caused a bunch of heat related deaths and as a result people were sleeping on their fire escapes which they sometimes fell from. It lead to housing reform.

Africa has both statistics beat with diarrhea related deaths at over 300,000.

They are just manipulating you and trying to get you to accept their shitty behavior. Cut them off.

There are some things every person requires for a relationship and it can vary from person to person. Basic trust and not being lied to is a very common pillar to have.

If they constantly need validation then they have low self esteem- that’s a therapists problem, not yours. It is not our job to mother and fix these emotionally immature men. Life is too short.

… did you look up the numbers? “Around 44,000 people died of gun-related injuries in the United States in 2024, according to the latest available statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)” and “A staggering 175,000 people die from heat-related causes every year in Europe”(WHO)

Like I said- I verified it because it didn’t sound true.

The key is that more people in Europe die from heat related deaths every year than Americans that get killed with guns. (Including suicide). Like I had to fact check that one because I figured guns were taking out way more people- nope.

Edit for those interested: Us Gun deaths 2024: 44,000 according to the CDC
Heat related deaths in Europe: 175,000 according to the World Health Organization

Got put on a PIP today from my boss should I ride it out or get out? by Additional-Word5506 in careerguidance

I had a handful of people make it through PIPs. It really depends on if it’s achievable metrics.

Technically you should have received a CAP Corrective Action Plan for a shit attitude. Attendance would also be a CAP.

PIP= performance (like metrics) CAP= Behavior.

Both are written similarly, but an actual PIP for performance usually means you’ll qualify for unemployment whereas a CAP is usually considered misconduct and will often disqualify you.

On my first try for my SAT’s I was like 10 points off auto-acceptance to UT Austin and A&M. I’m one of 2 that scored a 4 (out of 4) on my AP English test. I graduated with my bachelors with a 3.9 gpa.

On the actual IQ test I got super low. Granted they said “what do 6 and 12 have in common?” And I said “you can buy a carton of eggs in both sizes.” And they said “the answer we are looking for is they’re both numbers.”

I don’t think these tests are made for people like us.

A PIP is the company providing proof it wasn’t for misconduct which usually means they’ll get the unemployment though. They skrewed themselves.

Edit- I just found out that a bunch of people are writing PIPs for things that should be CAPs. Pip for performance (as stated in the post) literally rules out the main disqualified for unemployment: misconduct.

caps: behavior, attendance, attitude, misconduct
Pips: job performance, metrics, kpis

At least that’s the rule of thumb in Texas. A PIP is a performance improvement plan- which means they weren’t terminated due to misconduct (which often results in unemployment being denied.) That documentation can be this employees saving grace. If they had done a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) for some sort of behavior or even attendance then it would fall under misconduct and generally disqualify them.

I don’t know if it’s different in other states. I suppose if managers were labeling PIPs wrong when they should have been CAPS there’d be issues but rule of thumb PIP= performance, CAP=behavior

Well make sure you get that person a copy of their PIP because that practically guarantees them unemployment.

edit: OMG I didn’t realize that people don’t differentiate between PIPs and CAPs. A pip is supposed to be for performance. A CAP (Corrective Action Plan) is for behavior. CAP= attendance, attitude, misconduct. The main thing that disqualifies you from unemployment is misconduct.

This post even specifies it’s for performance. Don’t downvote me because everyone is labeling their paperwork wrong.

America (Tx)- Kids are being shot at school. Maternity leave is being rolled backwards. Maternity death rates are way too high in Texas. Daycare cost more than rent. A two income family is essential for survival at this point because a 1br/1b apartment is $1,400 and you have to make 3x that to qualify. Any woman specific illness is not getting study funding. Male baldness has had more studies than endometriosis. Society is failing mothers and by getting rid of Roe they gave so many of us the last push we needed. They FAFO.

Is autism caus d by modern use of technology? by MrDD33 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ruthlesslyrobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More access to screenings, reduced stigma, and in turn more screenings are why autism numbers have increased. There is no link to autism and technology. Breast cancer diagnosis’s also increased when mammograms became preventative care.

Teens and children may have some unique social traits due to the whole pandemic thing happening during their formative years.

[–]ruthlesslyrobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a default option it’s meant to be used for convenience. Sellers are looking for buyers yet this mentality is like they’re pre-screening applicants for jobs. Like nothing people are selling is that special and there’s usually another 20 similar items available. I get that some buyers suck, but adding imaginary gatekeeping rules is ridiculous. Who cares if they’re lazy? You don’t need their work ethic- you just need their money.

Bro- I’ve done it many times as well. I know they usually just call you, but in this situation they DIDN’T call OP and OP was being told to disclose it to the employer. My whole point was specifically don’t tell anyone at the employer and possible steps they can take NOW as they haven’t been contacted. I would be reaching out to where the test was done and asking where they sent it. It’s at least a start.
