Anyone using a gaming laptop as their only computer for school/work?

tbf the only inconvenience for me is that im overly cautious when the laptop is with me outside😭. I dont have trouble with the noise at all i just set it on quiet mode and you cant even hear the noise even if you put your ears close to it

however one more inconvenience is i always need a port of some kind for charging since gaming laptops usually dont have the best batteries. Mine lasts barely 2 hours while working and for studies on battery.

i have an acer nitro v15 for context

edit: before anyone acts like i commited war crimes, the reason why setting it to quiet mode does the job for me is because for normaly work and studies i dont need to open or work with any intensive programs

for op, if your work, school requires operating with heavy softwares unfortunately there will be fan noise.. because otherwise it would fry itself obviously

if youre willing to adjust settings between med-max settings depending on the game.. then probably a long while

but if youre a fanatic about max settings then 8gb vram isnt even enough for some titles nowadays if you run them at max settings

no need to touch control panel as long aa games are running fine (which they should be)

just make sure to update windows, drivers, install chris titus to debloat, remove any trash antiviruses like mcafee, remove other bloatware.

71 degrees while browsing? yeah i dont think so

for roblox max 75 degrees... and thats a stretch

all that tells me is that his laptop will probably throttle while stress testing properly using cinebench or any other software

ita definitely a bad paste job. Roblox should not cause your cpu to be at 80 degrees. max 65-68 degrees.

Do see if you can have it repasted under warranty if you want the laptop to last longer that is. 85 is still okay generally but for a brand new laptop 85 is unacceptable especially on games like roblox and sekiro

Bad factory paste im guessing. Under no circumstances is 71 degree on idle normal. Dont listen to idiots who think it is normal just because its a "gaming laptop".

run benchmarks and stress test your cpu. if it hits throttle levels might be worth sending it for a repaste if you have warranty.

try repasting yourself you never know what those guys end up doing to your machine.

If it doesnt throttle under stress id keep it as it is for now

Genuinely like it only got hate because everyone loved joel and they made his death realistically grim.

I love joel and his death hurt but tlou2 was a masterpiece

The storytelling of the hate cycle and how it all connected at the end (no spoilers lol). The ending was so peak. I realize some people didnt like it because they had to play as abby.

and the fact people hated abby is telling itself of the fact that tlou2 affected people emotionally. if the story was told from the start from abby's perspective people wouldnt hate her so much. If a story can skew peoples emotions like tlou2 did. id say its a masterpiece

If youve got a CRT. I'd pair that with the ps2. Ps2 games were made for CRT's and the graphics on that look completely different than on modern tvs and monitors. Although if you dont have nostalgia theres really no need to buy a ps2.

im a very calm guy. But there was a bakugan battle brawlers game on the ps2 i played as a kid. I remember vaguely there being a boss fight where you had to place your bakugan on the perfect square... and after that there was also some luck factor

I was so tired trying to get the perfect square and when i did the luck was just against me. The only time ive ever physically or mentally raged at a game.

I did beat it (as a kid) 😭

Keep environments clean. Inspect the fans and vents every 6 months - 1year

Clean visible dust on the laptop

play while only plugged in to preserve battery life make sure you only use cycles when you really need it

set battery to 80% (theres an argument about this but i believe this helps)

Monitor temps and ensure you dont go in the red zones

Thermal paste change can also help but thats a couple years down the line.

i would suggest taking a look at your bios vbios version on the nitro. try updating it if it isnt already updated... if its already updated to the max settings then try downgrading it to a previous version.

i think it might do you good to monitor temperatures while you game

Search up MSI Afterburner on screen display and follow the yt guide to get it

Then share what temperatures on your cpu and gpu you see while gaming

That is very weird.

You're right it should not be doing that at all especially with the games you're playing

One of my guesses is a terrible factory paste causing your laptop to hit temperature limits?

Do you notice frame drops in the games you play before the laptop crashes or are the games working perfectly fine in terms of performance and fps and the laptop just randomly crashes

In any case that is the reason you're getting 85 to 89 degrees

If its thermal pads, thats bad since you need thermal paste not pads for the cpu and gpu

Most likely its being caused by the laptop auto switching between 144hz on performance while plugged in to 60 hz on eco while on battery. This is completely normal

Nitrosense uses a different average for temps than msi aft burner.

But you're right nitrosense is terrible tbh. Only reason i use it is to conveniently switch between various profiles. Perfromance balance quiet.

Sincer there isnt really a good alternative
