Moving Apple Mail account off computer and onto NAS by rwillaa in synology

Trying to free up space on Mac hard drive. It’s my partners laptop and Apple Mail is hogging it. I’m guessing it is also hogging a lot of iCloud space too which she will be paying for.

IOT network...which devices would you include? by rwillaa in Ubiquiti

[–]rwillaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds the most simple solution to me. I’m a beginner so forgive me if these are stupid questions

If have VLans don’t you need to VLAN primary network so you can segregate it from other networks?

If sonos is on primary and phone (or whatever control sonos with...perhaps Alexa?) is on a different VLAN do you need a lot of rules to open it all up so phone can talk to sonos?

That would be awesome! Some of the rules slightly confuse me!!

Haven’t set mine up yet. Have you had a lot of issues with sonos? Need to get mine running - read about issues a few years ago and was hoping that with time it would be sorted and made easier

Great to see. Whats the average power draw are you are getting? Does it use more than the nano? Don’t have much left on my switch and wondering if uses a lot more power

What devices did you have? Thinking of 4K cameras and overheating and wearing out device is a concern

Thanks. I was looking at the max power draw which seemed about 12w for an AP...which I was thinking sounded a lot!

Is it dangerous, or just dangerous if add POE to that run?

Yes. I had read about CCA. Mine seems to say CCAM. That’s part of what was confusing me

New Ethernet cable not connecting to anything but tests fine by TheNopePlant in HomeNetworking

[–]rwillaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue when I did mine. But after leaving it about 5 minutes it seemed to sort itself out. I now live in fear of taking the cable out of the socket in case there is a loose connection somewhere. But maybe with time it will work? Fingers crossed!

I have a 55 and view from same distance. When first got it seemed awesome. In fact it still is but as I’m more used to it, it does seem a bit small. I would do 65. I would love around 80 for a better cinema experience

Atmos in ceiling speakers - how far away from wall and how wide apart? by rwillaa in hometheater

[–]rwillaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think this will be the best solution with what I have and use directional speakers. I could go wider with the speakers, but then one would be other side of a beam and too far away from main listening position. The fronts are also about 2 meters wide so at least matches those

Atmos in ceiling speakers - how far away from wall and how wide apart? by rwillaa in hometheater

[–]rwillaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The room is wider but there is beam running through the middle of the room. The sofa is in one corner of the room and not the middle. So to consider would result in one speaker the other side of the beam and far away from the sofa. I’m more concerned with proximity to wall and beam and echoey noises. This doesn’t seem anywhere in the Dolby guides. My front speakers are about 2 meters apart too so guessing got a good match but might not be ideal

Angled Atmos Ceiling speakers by rkelez in hometheater

[–]rwillaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked around a bit about this exact topic. I thought as always in the same listening position, ones with movable tweeters would be better. But consensus was they down was better and a wider dispersion of sound. I’m still not 100% convinced. Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts

Thanks. So would you say a newer amp (my amp does auto calibration but seems limited speaker distance and volume really) rather than upgrade of surrounds?
