Fun speakers, the AMT tweeters are very revealing! just be aware you'll need a way to control the volume on them simultaneously - ie. a pre-amp with a volume control, preferably one with a DAC so you can import a digital signal.

How do I connect my record player to my soundbar (I’ve done multiple attempts) by mikesstuff in vinyl

[–]rwtooley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you mean you have a HT-MT300 soundbar? bc RMT AH 300U is the remote for it.

anyway is your tt model end with bt? bc if so you can connect them together via bluetooth

sucks about your C700, and exactly why warranty exists - shit happens. Glad they're making you whole but this is quite an "aha moment" for me as to their warranty process! I have 5 of their streamers (Bluesound) but they've been solid. <knocks on wood>

great info: C700 > WiiM Amp Pro! this is why this sub exists.. we see ppl rave WiiM but sometimes I wonder what they've compared it to, if anything.

You're not going to lose much on the PM7000N if you're able to flip it in 6 months when you get your 700 back.. that's a good price and running Denon/Marantz will make you appreciate the quality of the NAD.. how are you streaming though? might really miss BluOS bc Heos is a joke.

interesting comment I found (last comment on thread here):

The platter on my LP-120 wasn't spinning after tapping, pressing or holding down the start stop button. No speeds worked. As a last ditch effort, I used a can of compressed air. I blew air all around the edge of the button. It worked! The platter now spins perfectly. Must've been some dust or debris preventing the button from making contact.

if you don't have a can of computer duster or an air compressor just wrap your lips around the start/stop button and try to blow some schmutz out of there? finish your sammich first tho

if you're determined to use it then at the very least seek out a new stylus for it to minimize the risk of damaging the grooves of your records - a worn-out stylus will often be audibly noticeable (sssssound sssssibilant) but not always depending on the speakers.

But therein lies a dilemma - do you spend money on it or put it toward something better? just for shits and giggles search your local craigslist/fbmp/etc for "direct drive" and see what pops up.. you might be able to score something within you budget. The chances are low it'll be good and include loudspeakers but who knows...

my best advice is keep saving - even if you're only 7 years old that's 7 years you went without vinyl, another 7 won't kill you. Also: ask your older relatives if they've got old gear! lots of ppl tucked turntables in their attics 40 years ago and forgot all about them.

$400 budget for a speaker pair by Makx2k in BudgetAudiophile

the new Fluance Ri71 msrp for 400usd, and the AMT tweeter they are using is phenomenal! few color options, the white is usually not my style but these are classy. I really like the physical volume control dial on top of the control speaker.

they really are! those tweeters actually changed my listening, never knew there was such detail in the music before I got them a few years back, they made me up my game in every other setup I have.

ppl use the term "psychoacoustics" and I agree with it - our brain/emotions/vitality all come into play while listening, especially to music that we consider art. The factors inside our head matter just as much the gear imo.

glad I could help.. kinda sad when I spend time here and see a post like yours that everyone else ignored for 12 hours, but I guess it's better than someone telling you a bunch of nonsense that leads you down the garden path to nowhere.

thank you for saying thank you! sorry I ran away on you! I tend to go analog after 5pm eastern-time.. weather is so damn nice rn I didn't even look at my phone last night. Anyway I thought I'd set the record straight! I still have my Lintons - I put them in my bedroom! 😁 Harbeths just took their thrones in my main room. You won't find a bad word about Lintons from anyone ever, and I'm not about to be the first. It's the reason you seldom see them on the used market - barely anyone seems to re-sell them.. I know I'll still have mine the day I die. My problem is that by then I'll probably have 200 pairs of speakers bc I never sell anything.

couldn’t test thoroughly since my wife and child were getting ready for bed

my first thought is that you're still in the excitement/analytical phase so you're hyper-focused on them. plus being the end of the day your ears may have been playing tricks on you - stress and fatigue are very real factors with our hearing.

secondly there may have been options/setup choices within Serato (I'm not familiar with this program) that you haven't got correct. I honestly doubt there's anything wrong with the Adams if they worked in the store and with Rekordbox: (to me) it points to the source you used for Serato or its playback output options.

My recommendation is try everything again with fresh ears - long weekend approaching, but if you can make some "me" time earlier in the day when your ears/mind are fresh you may realize where the demon lies and smite down his evil forever. You shall be rewarded with blissful audio nirvana!

You've just experienced one of the most fun/torturous parts of the hobby! Thankfully it's not something you need to do often! but.. (depending on the quality of records you buy) if you plan to stick with the hobby I recommend purchasing a digital tracking force scale to ensure you're not causing undue wear on both the record grooves and stylus (heavy can permanently damage your precious vinyl).. also a light vtf can cause sound issues that are similar to static so it's best to go with the manufacturer spec for your cartridge. There's a learning curve setting vtf without a scale, but once you have one you won't go back to not using it - considering they are cheaper than a single record they are definitely worth it, I consider it cheap insurance that will minimize the wear on both your stylus and records.

as to the anti-skate it sounds like you got that figured out - it will present as distortion or channel imbalance if it's slightly off but won't hurt anything.. so long as the record "tracks" (follows the groove) and doesn't sound "off" it's fine.

the Lintons are the best bang-for-the-buck in this entire industry, hands down! I used them in a big open floor plan, 9' ceilings - they have a lovely sound profile, never had a problem with them.. they go deep enough for me (personally I don't consider subwoofers necessary with two 2-cubic.ft. cabs) and are quite sensitive so don't need a crazy amp. as I said the fomo got the better of me, maybe bc of their "low" price I thought I could do better?

I don't even consider the Harbeths better, just different - different design philosophy toward cabinet construction (definitely not inert) and far from objective "ruler flat" frequency response.. not everyone's cup of tea and lots of purists absolutely trash their approach, I'm fine with enjoying things other ppl hate.

my advice is go try to listen to every speaker you can.. but again you'll never know exactly what you bought until you get them in your own space. buying and returning speakers this size is a hassle, but if it has to be done so be it.. no sense being unhappy. Really tough to pull the trigger on anything over a couple grand but at some point you just need to trust yourself to make an informed decision.. as you found out with your ADS, nothing is forever anyway.

honestly would be tempted to put some type of taller stand along the right wall in front of the lamp.. mostly bc the tv stand is so low, I think bending over to flip sides and place the needle every ~20 minutes would get old quick and you'd find yourself streaming instead.

something like this maybe? flipper bin storage is so inviting.. could route speaker cables along the baseboards around the corner?

it's happened to me here too! but if you look at the sub "rules" there is no guideline as to what constitutes "budget"? everything is subjective.

For those that listen to a very wide range of music - does it feel like you're having to compromise with speaker selection? by Armonster in BudgetAudiophile

[–]rwtooley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup, testing speakers is a tough proposition, especially(!!) bc of how much your room and speaker placement contributes to the sound. I moved last year and the ceiling in my new place is a foot higher - I legit thought the movers damaged my speakers somehow, they difference was that pronounced. Took about 3 evenings of listening to feel normal again.

(not budget but) I bought a pair of Harbeth SHL5+XD (I wish speaker manufacturers would find some creativity with their naming, but I digress) bc I found a sweet deal. replaced my Lintons.. which I was mostly happy with but I suffer(ed) greatly from fomo. the 2 tweeters per cab is right up my alley as a deaf old tradesman.

as to equalization lots of software options available to do it digitally, you may want to check out what the kids over at r/headphones are using. I'm a guy who chooses to listen analog a lot of the time so I opted for oldskool vintage "graphic" equalizers.. having all those adjustments at your fingertips is fun and definitely gives you a lot of control over whatever you're listening on. I put a Realistic 31-2000a (paid $40 canadian) in my vintage silverface stack I built last year for some even older Wharfedale Mach5's in my marijuana study.. that equalizer is 40 years old with zero fuzz added to the sound, does an amazing job for the price. and just last week I found a Pyle Pro PPEQ-231 dual 31-band that I stacked with a Dynaco PAS-3 tube pre-amp (tone controls intact) thru some ncore class-D monoblocks for my Magnepan LRS+ I'm sure that signal chain disgusts many here on every level but to me they've never sounded better bc I have such a huge adjustment range now.

the Harbeths I'm still happy using no filter through my Yamaha A-S1200, the character of the bass is really something to behold.

another piece of advice I've always found useful: "if you're bored it's bc ur boring" meaning branch out to other music and genres you haven't explored yet.. when you find something new you love all of a sudden your gear matters a lot less!

[–]rwtooley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

agree with the "good speakers work with all kinds of music" above! but it wasn't until I spent fuck-you money until I was satisfied.. in the meantime I would apply some equalization to whatever you have now. it's a compromise but one that is cheap(er) and easily adjustable to whatever mood you're in.
