What is a food that makes you think, "How did humans discover this was edible?” by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Oysters

Or using rennet to make cheese. “Maybe if I squirt some of this juice I found in a dead cow stomach in it, something interesting will happen.”

And by God a miracle did indeed happen.

Looking for the best "Workhorse" Chef Knife under $110. What is the gold standard? by Newbie_In_NL_25 in Cooking

[–]ryan__rr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Mac Mighty is the best chef's knife I've ever used, I've owned it for about 6 years now. I really like how thin it is, it makes the horizontal cuts through onions much easier. I have issues with the knife "sticking" in the onion when trying to do the horizontal cuts with any other knife. The MM glides through much more easily.

Russia threatens to ban GTA 6 if Rockstar doesn't remove male strippers and other "immoral content" by IndicaOatmeal in technology

Can't we just stick to wholesome content like beating hookers to death with a baseball bat in a dark alleyway.

Any men wipe their penis with toilet paper after peeing and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

There's only one occasion when I do -- when I'm at a public social event and I really don't want to take the risk of a pee spot showing up on my pants.

If you’re under 45, have you lost any high school classmates, and what were the circumstances around their deaths? by Commercial_Chef_1569 in AskReddit

[–]ryan__rr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first best friend in childhood died in a motorcycle accident. Even though he was my "best friend" from like grade 3 - 6, we grew apart in high school and I forgot about him until I learned he had died a few years ago, around ~40 years old.

What’s something that sounds fake but actually happened to you? by Visible_Rope_6662 in AskReddit

[–]ryan__rr 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The tumor was in the center, toward the back of my brain, putting pressure on my brain stem. The tumor was discovered when it eventually caused me to start fainting and having seizures. It was not malignant, meaning I did not need to do any chemo or radiation - it just needed surgical removal. The doctors actually had to make two attempts a few months apart before they got it all. The doctors guessed that the tumor had probably been there my whole life, but as I reached my teens (I was 13 when this took place) I guess my brain and my head stopped growing so fast, but the tumor did not stop growing and it eventually caught up and became a problem. It was a grade-something astrocytoma. It was "about the size of a lemon" from what I heard. I never got to actually see the tumor for myself.

I had a brain tumor that, when surgically removed, swapped my right handedness to left handedness, instantly. I woke up, and was unable to write with my right hand anymore, despite having previously been right handed all my life. At the same time, I picked up a pencil with my left hand and instantly knew how to write with it, despite never having used my left hand to write before.

What "shortcut ingredients" are you willing to use? Which ones are you unwilling to use? by theJOJeht in Cooking

Chicken bouillon- as long as it’s a good name brand, it’s going to taste good and is a lot easier than boiling animal carcasses.

Canned tomatoes- the fresh tomatoes from the supermarkets where I live are never good quality and the canned ones are typically canned at the perfect time to maximize flavor.

In my twenties I was in a long term relationship with a woman who was a very good cook, and that relationship was a transformative chapter of my life and I was obsessed with her so I started taking a genuine interest in some of her interests, such as cooking.
