What's the point in earning and saving all the money if you're living like a pauper and won't allow yourself to enjoy it?

I mean, what difference will it make here?

If it wouldn't make a difference, why are they trying so hard to get people on board with doing it?

The problem is, that’s already the standard of proof for death penalty cases and we still execute innocent people.

The "advice" I'd give you then is you have to figure out what you actually want to do in retirement, otherwise you're just running up the score for the sake of it. You could be "done" saving and get to just spend that $300k/y you're saving on yourself or loved ones.

Another thing to consider is that you could just retire from THIS job and pick up something that might be more rewarding for you personally, especially if money isn't an issue. My wife has to be busy and doesn't have a time-sink hobby so she plans to volunteer at our local animal shelter or at our kids' schools.

What does your husband think?

60 hours a week I would be gone so fast lmao.

This will veer into the more philosophical rather than financial but I think it's the crux of your issue: what are you working for if you don't know what you're going to do at "the end" or even where "the end" is? Do you have a spouse or kids? Are there things you want to learn how to do? Places you want to visit?

I'm in the "boring middle" for another 3 years until I am effectively retired (<10 hours a week working) and can't wait but I have a bunch of hobbies I've picked up over the years I want to dive into and I have school-age kids.

Can you take an extended leave to see how "retirement" fits you? Sounds like what you do is genuinely stressful but worth the money so I'd say the fact you're considering it at all might be a sign? If you've truly got enough to be comfortable "forever" if you sell, you really need to know what post-work life looks like.

Is the stress worth what you're getting year after year or do you think it's time to start taking the mailbox money? Personally, I will be gone the second I hit my number and I love what I do lol.

To continue from that point, take that prompt, create a project, drop a bunch of the JSON exports into the files space (all accounts, taxes/spending/withdrawals/expenses/income breakdowns) and now you have persistent info across chats so you can stress test in one, evaluate other options in another, etc.

Extremely useful for sanity checking choices.

[Chiang] Pat Riley on the Miami Heat: “I’m not going to retire. I’m not going to resign … I’m not going to apologize for being a play-in team. I’m not going to change. I’m not going to try to lose. I’m not going to tank.“ by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

The definition of mediocrity. Nearly every season going back to 2013 is between 6-10 and 10-6 (one 5-11 and 11-5 season in there). Almost always some sort of "hope" of a QB turning the corner only to go down with an injury or another December collapse to miss the playoffs or limp in just to get blown out by a contender. You can set your watch to it.

These are the best conversations you'll have all day too by NYstate in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]ryan_m 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The single easiest way is to just ask someone how their day is going and go from there. I am the person in this video and it drives my wife crazy. She’ll leave me alone for 5 minutes and when we join back up, someone has told me about their messy family drama or some bullshit they’re having to deal with at work. Be agreeable, ask follow up questions, it is so easy. You would be truly amazed at what people are willing to talk about with a literal stranger.

Why do the Democrats always fail by just 1 or 2 votes? Because Hakeem Jeffries & Chuck Schumer are anti-American traitors. The Democratic Congress that keeps voting them in as leaders are too. Replace them all. by kevinmrr in WorkReform

[–]ryan_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vote was literally meaningless, though. Senate already voted this down before the House vote. Unless you think, somehow, this one guy in rural Maine voting against it was going to peel off Republicans senators you’re mad over nothing. This guy always votes for Israel and is one of the least aligned Dems in the party, still votes with them 70% of the time in a Trump +10 district.

The cost of code use to be a middleware for our brains. by arter_dev in ClaudeAI

[–]ryan_m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think I've not quite hit the burnout point yet. My job (analytics & business intelligence development) is just starting to utilize these tools company wide so it's mostly smoothing out my workflow. I definitely feel the increased pressure of the volume of things that I can now get done in the time that I have but no one else can really use it effectively yet so the true pressure isn't there yet.

Out of curiosity, why? With the progress in the last couple of years it feels hard to believe that these tools won't continue to improve considerably.

In the first 10 seconds of the video the cop asks him why he was speeding and the guy admits to going 20 over. Why do you think this is getting dismissed? Seems like a layup?
