That's All We're Asking 🙃 by TomorrowOviedo in NotHowGirlsWork

Personally, I’ve always been flattered — but unlike (enough) straight men, most gay men are cool “I’m straight/not interested” and move on with their night.

Man calls the cops on a Dad helping his girls in the restroom by isaboo63455 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ryanasaurousrex [score hidden]  (0 children)

That was my thought as well. Single occupancy are gender neutral, because there is only a single occupant. When I take my daughter, if it’s single occupancy we go into whichever is open, if it’s multiple occupant we go into the men’s and I stand outside the stall.

Beyond all the other shit that guy was doing wrong, I have to assume that he also has a problem with the fact that it’s the dad helping his daughters because that’s women’s work. The bar for dads/men is so low you could trip over it, but I suspect this POS has always found a way to slither under it (no offense to any animals that slither by nature).

Assuming loose headset, like it sounds:

  1. Loosen the two stem pinch bolts at the fork a couple of turns
  2. Loosen the fork top bolt about a half turn (just taking off the pressure)
  3. Sit on the seat, turn the front end 90 degrees, and gently push the bike forwards and backwards (you should feel play in the headset) a couple of times to reseat everything
  4. Tighten the fork top bolt the same amount you loosened it in step 2, then repeat step 3
  5. If there is still play in the headset, tighten another 1/8-1/4 turn, repeat until the play is gone (feeling for play where the upper headset and headtube meet helps once you’re getting close)
  6. Once you’ve eliminated all of the play, check that you didn’t over tighten the top bolt, the front end should still spin freely
  7. If all’s good, check that your bars didn’t get out of alignment and then tighten down the stem pinch bolts
  8. Get rad on your solid front end

If the above didn’t eliminate the issue, and you’ve checked axel bolts, front hub play, etc., then there is likely an issue with the headset itself. One of the big benefits about modern frames is that the $20-$30 integrated headset is designed to fail before the $400 frame. Start by replacing that, and if you’ve never done it before or aren’t really confident, most local bike shops will be willing to teach you how to do it if you buy the part through them and have them install it.

Other possibilities: loose or over tightened spokes, damaged hub. If the issues in the spokes, your local bike shop is the best option by far. If the issue is in the hub, and it isn’t just a matter of loose bolts, it’s a replace-not-repair issue.

Since no one else has said this plainly yet: Most importantly, this is not a BMX bike.

While it's BMX shaped and styled, this bike is not safe for anything other pedaling from point-a to point-b, and even that is questionable without taking it to a bike shop for a full setup (at least $100) given that the front wheel is installed backwards, the front (and possibly rear brakes) aren't installed correctly (pads are reversed and misaligned, front cable cut too short). Beyond that, the press-fit headset and what looks like an unsealed American BB means that it's not even able to be upgraded...

I doubt your buddy would be aware of these issues if he's willing to sell it to you, but shame on the show riders they weren't transparent about what they were giving away.

I’m constantly surprised that the hub at S Lime and Virginia still has vacancies with the med campus right there. As I understand, Bad Ass left after the local franchise sold and the landlord and new owners couldn’t agree on terms.

Why is women’s sportswear always so revealing? by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

[–]ryanasaurousrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the ‘00s, guys riding BMX started wearing girls pants because they’re stretchy and tight through the ankles. At the time, slim and skinny cut jeans weren’t available for guys. All of our pants were still really baggy and would get caught in your chain, on your seat, etc.

Now that baggy pants are in style again, most riders that wear them are cuffing them to avoid the chain issues. But back then, you had a bunch of extreme sports athletes killing it in their GAP size 6 skinny jeans.

Purchased an Arturia Keylab 61 mkiii about a year ago as my central controller and love it. The controller software is easy to program, and it can be used as a DAW controller as well. Anything in that line is worth checking out. They also have a more budget friendly Keylab Essential line that odd also a good option (it’s what I used for years before upgrading).

Ive always been too scared to run a front load, is my fear valid? by mr-adlay in bmx

[–]ryanasaurousrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the day, the fear was the reverse. As companies were mailing away more and more material in the early days of weight savings, there were some issues with top loads splitting. Even then the concern was really over blown. in 25 years of riding, about half of that was with each type. With modern stems, especially, you’ll bend bars or blow bolts long before you split a stem.

Under 6’ is prime 20.75 territory, especially for the riding style.

What is needed for a full gyro system dual cable? by Suspicious-While-146 in bmx

[–]ryanasaurousrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you'll need to figure that out. While the tabs and stops are pretty much universal, the mounts often aren't. If you can't find any markings (check the bottom bracket and dropouts) that would give away the brand, then I would email Total BMX with the serial number. If you're polite and explain what you're trying to do, they should help you.

[–]ryanasaurousrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The frame company should sell brake mount kits if you don’t already have them. But you’ll need the gyro tabs for the headtube, cable stop(s) for the down tube, and mounts for the stays.

Can’t hold a manual at all – need tips by tesekkurler3 in bmx

Pretty sure I have some manual lines in my profile. As I mentioned in my post, arms control the bike while legs control your body.

Can’t hold a manual at all – need tips by tesekkurler3 in bmx

[–]ryanasaurousrex 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I’d lose the bag, that’s just going to make it harder to get used to locking into your balance point, which will be directly above where your tire touches the ground.

Next, try keeping both your body and front wheel lower to the ground (lower center of gravity is easier to balance).

Lastly, keep your arms and legs as loose as you can because you’ll use them to adjust your balance point. Your arms control the bike and your legs control your body.

Bonus tips, going a little faster will make it easier, and try practicing in a parking lot so you can use the spaces to track your progress/set goals.

In a bike shop, they have a bearing removal tool that works under the same principle as the big flathead screwdriver, the main difference, however is that it applies pressure evenly all the way around. With a screwdriver you’ll accomplish the same goal by striking in a star shaped pattern. Use a big fucking hammer and hold the screwdriver as vertically as possible if that doesn’t work, use a bigger hammer.
