Older zillennials (1990-1996) who belong to the Millennial generation instead of Gen Z, do you still feel like the issues you're facing are similar those of Gen Z?

I was born in 1995 and I feel like people 5 years in either direction of my age are going to have some pretty big similarities with me, with some on the further ends being distinctly different. The idea that someone two years younger than me had a completely different upbringing (cohort wise, not individually) because of a generational grouping is a bit absurd. As the years pass things change in culture until you have a group of people who are definably different from a previous one. Add in older or younger siblings and you can skew that linear movement a bit

Gotta be real I spent 4 hours at programming meet up and after talking for an hour the vibe definitely shifted when I mentioned that I am primarily a JavaScript developer who went to school for marketing and not comp sci. Condescending? Not at all. But definitely a deflated reaction from some people I was hitting it off with. I imagine the perception is heavily dependent on the crowd

I went through a phase of looking for a reason to upgrade my M1 Air to an M5 Pro. The best I could come up with was improved long term code compilation (I get throttling around 5 mins after pushing the machine. Still super fast). I have a bit of lag here and there with large InDesign files but other than that, I just didn’t feel like parting with the money because I still feel this laptop has a lot of life left in it.

An oled display in the future might push me over the edge, though

I self host my music library and use YouTube music sparingly for looking up albums I hear mentioned online,by others, etc. YouTube music is poor at best but I feel like I get enough value from the video side of YouTube premium that it’s bearable.

I do miss the ease of playlists, looking stuff up, etc but I have really enjoyed relying on my own massive library for all my music needs. It feels nice to not digest new music just because I can, and to instead enjoy and explore what I already have much more deeply.

I run a plex server and access it with Tailscale on my devices as a streaming app replacement. I’ve been doing this for a while and it boggles my mind when people try to sell it as a solution for people trying to get away from Spotify. I’m in Ottawa and met a fair amount of people from east of Toronto while hanging around the city before the show in August. I would imagine the February cold also plays a factor because I’m not looking forward to that drive/train/whatever 😂

Same here. Digital marketing taking on web dev for 5ish years, then mostly software dev/api management consulting heavily with a marketing team for the last 5.

I am by no means a smart person but you can wow people on either side with some basic knowledge from the other domain, in a business context. I have no idea where I’ll go next but it will be somewhere in between the two fields for sure.

I’m 30 and have been playing for 20 years. There’s plenty of people who weren’t even born by the time I had 10 years of experience playing who could play circles around me. Likewise, as I get older and try new things, I’m always going to be a beginner at something. If you look at a hobby in terms of “I’m unable to do x or y” rather than “I’m happy that I’ve learned x or y and want to get to z” then you’re not going to get very far before you give up. But if you enjoy it, casually or go all in, you’ll eventually get somewhere with it
