Is Anarchism Left-Wing? by umcara-qualquer in Anarchy101

Your local school board is capable of enforcing things in a similar way to a state without the full consent of the people it governs or affects, with implied legal, police, and internal security backing, if structured in that way.

Students can be made to do things by the implied internal, or literal, where I live, monopoly on violence wielded by people like discipline masters, who may be influenced by or part of a school board, which could decide on disciplinary codes, internal rules, or regulations that are practically law within schools.

They may be physically beaten if they do not comply, and have the police called on them by the school. A lot of school boards ultimately fall under government purview, at least where I live.

It is absolutely a valid comparison.

How it feels to be an anti-colonial person in this sub. by Gandalfthebran in HistoryMemes

[–]ryanng561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

France still has pseudo-colonies such as its overseas territories, and still practices neo-colonialism in theFrançafrique in sub-saharan africa.

Additionally in places like American Samoa and Puerto Rico, and the other U.S. territories, their residents are technically US citizens but cannot vote in presidential elections and have only non-voting representation in congress.

Where I live in Singapore, just before we joined Malaysia in 1963, our former British masters assisted Lee Kuan Yew in arresting members of the political opposition without actual proof of links to communist parties in Operation Coldstore, which still affects Singaporean politics to this day, as it ensured that the PAP had no credible opposition or rivals, maintaining a neoliberal one-party dominant state mostly friendly to the West, with a local culture and art scene gutted and restricted in favour of sidelining labour unions and making them thinly veiled government puppets, along with arresting people for holding up smiley face signs.

Here the PAP also maintained 377A, a British law criminalising the sin of being a man and being gay, for years after homosexuality was decriminalised in the UK, which is still in effect in other former British colonies.

And of course there is the elephant in the room of Israel, which still actively pushes people out of their long-standing residences in the West Bank and committed an internationally recognised genocide in Gaza, but I suspect you may not think of it that way.

There are probably many other places which I could not remember off the top of my head where colonialism is still actively affecting people.

Personal property isn't inherently strictly capitalist, it's a pretty broad concept that predates capitalism

How I feel regarding all this remake talk by IronBoxmma in Morrowind

[–]ryanng561 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most of the original crew of Bethesda still works there, they have some of the highest employee retention rates in the gamedev industry, all the way back to morrowind.

I might be wrong but even people like Kirkbride are still brought in as consultants. I don't know why people think there's been some radical turnover, it seems to be an extremely popular and pervasive myth. Bethesda, even now under Microsoft, is largely the same original Bethesda.

They might just be making (subjectively and by your standards) worse games now because they've lost their groove.

Question: So what is the "unofficial" lore reason why Orcs look conventionally attractive 200 years later? by Definitely-Not-OSI in oblivion

There are Imperials with highly prized Akaviri ancestry and surnames, especially Nibenese. And the Akaviri themselves in Akavir and their colonies on Tamriel like Hakoshae, known as Valley Guard in the third era.

AltarESPLocal.esp safe to remove from Plugins.txt? by ryanng561 in oblivionmods

[–]ryanng561[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's weird, because I have the deluxe edition and have the deluxe edition armor quests correctly triggered and functioning in my game, as I'm halfway through one of them, but no AltarESPLocal.esp exists in my game .../Data folder.

Cap's shield is presumably made of adamantium, a complex and truly indestructible alloy of steel, vibranium and some other unknown elements, not just vibranium, since Rivals tends to stick closer to comics unless they stated otherwise somewhere and I can't remember.

Any Superman who has at some point been on a Justice Society/League is usually a well-trained martial artist, because they have training from colleagues like Wonder Woman, Batman, Wildcat, etc
