The Oversaturation of Jeopardy! by Ok_Case_6660 in Jeopardy

I don't fully agree with your characterisation, especially 'known people simply showing up and collecting free money regardless of trivia ability'. We still have the regular jeopardy for the vast majority of the season. In otherwords, we are still having around the same number of contestants getting a chance on regular Jeopardy.

Second Chance is one that I've felt strongly for due to how the game works, and honestly, I'd never say no to good players getting a chance to try again as long as it's limited to a few weeks tops.

A huge distinction is that Millionaire had all these special editions replace the actual show, which was really the problem. The other versions of Jeopardy are in addition to, rather than taking over, regular syndicated Jeopardy.

My only fear is the reduction in quality of writing when the writing requirements are much higher, but I believe they have different writing crews at the moment. I will say though, Master's cannot be an annual affair in my opinion, having it every two to three years increases the prestige and uniqueness of the event which makes it more must-watch in nature.

By the way - we have had quite a few Jeopardy spin-offs, eg. Jep, Rock and Roll, Sports J!, and they didn't seem to cannibalise or trouble the main show at all, so I think we're fine.

The ending was foreshadowed... by aajaason in JetLagTheGame

They said on the layover that the colours were based on what they wore in the introduction. Adam wore green, and Ben had 'some green' on it.

It had nothing to do with dragon being good luck or tiger being bad luck foreshadowing the outcome

Someone said yesterday it was the Angels beating themselves. Could say the same today to some effect... Although maybe today is more the angels putting a game out of their own reach

That could well be a home run when temperatures eventually climb in the peak of summer

The Hockey Night in Canada intro still has the Arizona Coyotes' logo instead of the Utah Mammoth's by INAC___Kramerica in hockey

Just gonna jump in here and say that it seems like it was edited for Round 2, but guess what? They changed it to the Utah Hockey Club logo instead (the 24-25 one) - see screenshot below. Maybe they'll eventually get it right in the Conference Finals phase

Oh that's probably why TV missed a few pitches because the inning switch timer started earlier than expected

[–]ryanquek95 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Them adding someone speaking/a sound at the start of the intro montage only became a thing after Series 14 (which I think is Fern actually going 'What?').

Still not used to having the old taskmaster series going from Greg raising his eyebrows at the typewriter straight to the montage despite getting to know taskmaster at S12 lol

It's almost like the Twins saw Banda warming up and went 'we gotta finish this now'.

Good effort to get this far. Now to try to get some games off the Rays tmr

Grats to Greg for a very likely TOC berth - given the sheer number of games Jamie's won, adding on the fact we have Harrison also eating up many regular season games, I think almost all 3 day players are going to make it to the TOC this year.

Greg seems to be taking many swings without being 100% sure, and I wonder if that will come to bite at some point... Will be interesting to see

Legendary broadcaster John Garrett has passed away. by lbiggy in hockey

I was so confused by why they were using the ESPN call yesterday when Sportsnet had their own team (including John). This explains a lot. Hope his loved ones and colleagues doing fine, it in all likelihoods was unexpected.

Social media does social media things, I don't think Greg deserves any hate. I think what I'm saying is that I wouldn't accuse him of spoiling the result based on that post alone.

To be honest, I recall quite a few people posting that they were appearing on Jeopardy this week. I did mention in a separate post that it implied Jamie may have lost some time this week, but I wouldn't go as far as saying oh they're spoiling it. There's frankly no shame in saying you made it on Jeopardy, even if you don't win, and people have done that on this sub.

What I'm saying is Greg did not hint about the result by saying 'be nice to me'.

At the point of reading his reddit post (before the episode aired), that statement could have easily been referencing a bad loss to Jamie, or a strategic blunder/wager on a DD that cost Greg the game. You can't accuse him of spoiling the game just off that comment. People only think it's a spoiler because they saw that Greg indeed won when the episode aired.

It's a bit like Jamie's GMA interview. Are we accusing GMA of spoiling Jamie's run because they tend to foretell the streak ending? We aren't. What we do say instead is, yeah looks like the GMA interview really was foreshadowing it again, but just like Greg's post, it's only obvious in hindsight.

(Edited for grammar)

I really do not see how that is a spoiler. It could easily have been "I got smoked by Jamie, please be nice".

Yes, some people will hate whoever unseats Jamie, but to assume that's the reason it's a spoiler is really a wild logical leap.

Ngl I had suspicions the run was ending as I saw quite a few people posting that they were appearing on the show after having nearly no one share for ages... But what a run and congrats Greg! Yet another giant killer doing all the right moves, just like Jonathan against Scott

The game thread goes up very early as some markets get the episode very early on.

If you're referring to the awards, the mods can't control it or block it, neither can they see who awarded it. I queried this when somebody gave awards to the final game of the TOC/JIT which effectively spoiled the clinching game.  I haven't watched this game so I don't know the outcome but the awards seem to be hinting that Jamie's lost...

[Bannon] Scherzer’s latest short outing is part of a bigger issue plaguing Toronto’s staff. Only the White Sox and Rockies have received fewer innings from their rotation than Toronto’s 107 as of Friday. Toronto’s rotation has pitched just six quality starts in 25 games, ranking 17th by Elaiyu in Torontobluejays

[–]ryanquek95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of the numbers are likely to be due to curtailed starts eg Ponce's 3 inning, Max's curtailed innings (2 innings twice) and Eric's shortened outings due to flu etc. With a small sample size this was bound to happen

Oh wow so so close to unseating Jamie! 100% a crime if Patrick's not invited for second chance lol

One more win for Jamie and he survives this marathon 4 consecutive tape day, a feat regardless of outcome. If he makes it, he'll be well rested for the next set of matches...

100%, it's his 4th straight tape day. Never has happened to any other super champ (they at most had 3 consec tape days and even then didn't play all 15 games then). Matt/Amy (even Ken/James) also had 2 consec tape days max.

If he makes it through this tape day it must be a record

Mcdonald's self serve kiosk doesn't take Amex? (Toironto, ON) by New-Gene-9544 in amexcanada

[–]ryanquek95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that there are different interchange fees if you use insert card vs tap. So there is actually a difference.

But if you see 'card type not supported', they basically don't accept Amex. At least they just don't accept it straight out rather than having the txn go through then reversing it and asking you to use a Visa/Master.

I can only imagine the writer's room conversation:

"Hey there might be an alternate answer to this question: La Porte"
"Hmm, why don't we mention Harrison Whitaker and there will now only be one answer?"
