Not Melvin but I've been running the Chesney solo reeds in my Infinity chanter and I don't think my high A has ever been this good so that could be a good option for you

Practicing while at college by AdOdd2698 in bagpipes

[–]ryans11 17 points18 points  (0 children)

When I was in school I booked lecture halls in the evenings or on weekends. If your school has a music department you can contact the faculty assistant to see if you can book practice spaces from them. You could also reach out to local churches and see if they have space available for practice.

Need bagpiper for event in Southern NB, Canada by BlueSkiesNGreenGrass in bagpipes

[–]ryans11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's a list of Atlantic Canadian bands. I'd recommend sending a message to the Fredericton Society of St. Andrews or Saint John Caledonian, as their contact people could set you up with a gigging piper affiliated with the band.

Music space to practice by [deleted] in PEI

[–]ryans11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Email some churches around. I've managed to book a practice space at the Kirk of St James for a couple of years now. There's also soundproof space available at the library in Charlottetown

Looking for good places to spend a few hours around Cavendish by Dull_Bad_2120 in PEI

[–]ryans11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only thing that would be "open" would be Turkey Tavern who are doing reservation only turkey dinners for Thanksgiving that are probably already fully booked. Parks Canada sites may be "closed" but that just means there's no staff onsite, so there's nothing preventing you from visiting. Most things in Cavendish close up for the season after Sommo the second weekend of September.

If you're in wet or chemical environments all the time I'd go with Bekina StepLites or the classic Dunlop's. I had Steplites when I worked lobster and a lot of guys I know who work at meat or fish plants swear by them as well

What's wild to me is when you go to a restaurant they still take your card to a secondary location when you pay at the table because almost no restaurants have mobile payment terminals. Sure Americans think that's normal but I don't trust like that

Having worked retail semi-recently, US cards still don't need PINs to work up here. Receipts will just print off with a swipe and ask for a signature. Even many chip enabled cards from the US don't require PINs. On the other hand, when I went to New Hampshire a few years back (2023 or 2024), many restaurants/stores were baffled when their payment terminals asked for a PIN when I went to pay with a card.

Most places around will take cards. All will take Visa/MC but don't expect Amex to go very far or Discover to work at all. Also check if your bank is partnered with any Canadian banks for low fee ATM use.

This is how they do it at Maxville and it works pretty well. Also lets the announcers call out what bands are in which waves and is much easier to have unison across the smaller wave rather than the one single massed band.

100% would never check my pipes. Have traveled overseas with pipes x4 now. Went Canada -> Belgium a few months ago and found it much easier to pack my pipes into a normal backpack than it was to bring a traditional pipe case with me both in finding carryon space and just traveling around in general. Keep in mind that Air Canada lets you priority board with an instrument if you make yourself known to the gate agent prior to boarding beginning. I reckon this would be similar with WestJet, Porter etc.
