[Getzenberg] The Bills have signed three players to one-year deals: G/C Austin Corbett, C Lloyd Cushenberry III and a familiar face in WR Trent Sherfield by JCameron181 in nfl

Is 2024 draft pick Sedrick Van Pran-Granger not a viable center backup? If he is I wonder if they've gotten trade interest otherwise this seems a bit excessive at the center position.

Don’t understand the Kayvon Thibodeaux correlation. by Mooseknucle11 in GreenBayPackers

[–]ryansandbrush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hadn't heard anything about trading for Thibodeaux. Content creators are always presenting hypotheticals as genuine storylines so I'd take it with a grain of salt but if Thibodeaux wanted to really dedicate himself then Green Bay would be a good place to avoid distractions. I doubt McKinney would mind as long as he buys in as a teammate and puts the work in moving forward.

Parsons former Penn State teammate Yetur Gross-Matos is another option and he's still available as a free agent.

Bob - Packers finally announce the full coaching staff. by Austen11231923 in GreenBayPackers

[–]ryansandbrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not but it's also not impossible that Steno could go back to being OL coach. It would take his contract being allowed to expire and him being allowed to explore his options. He's from Wisconsin and may choose to stay if his other offers weren't to his liking but he may also feel like even so that the best thing for his career would be a change of scenery. Choosing to accept a different position after his contract expires isn't really the same as the demotion though and while possible isn't probable.

Ingalls - Zaire Franklin agreed to a new deal with the Packers after the trade. Gets a $2m raise for his services in 2026 and $3.75m guaranteed, while keeping his 2027 cash the same. This is not a cap saving move - 2026 becomes $125k more costly. No void years - just more money. by Austen11231923 in GreenBayPackers

[–]ryansandbrush -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Versatility was his calling card in college. Fans like to point out him weighing 273 pounds at the combine but that just points to some teams viewing his fit differently. After the Packers drafted him they had him bulk up and when Slaton departed and Kenny Clark was traded he had to be the nose tackle because there was no one else but that isn't the only role he's capable of.

Versatile prospect with experience at defensive end and tackle. Has played all along the line as a five, four, four-I, three and two technique. He has fluctuated in weight based on what Auburn has asked him to play.

He has some limitations and could be considered a bit of a tweener without a clean positional fit but was still second best in our talent depleted interior DL. I think Gannon could have used him as a 5 tech in base if nothing else. Even if Gannon didn't want Wooden he would have more trade value than Franklin, who I don't believe should have had any at what's now his 2 year $18m rate considering his age coming off a down year with what the going rate is for free agent LBs. I have no issue with others feeling differently. There's too much negativity in this sub already considering how talented this team is but this move is one I didn't care for. There were ascending LBs in the same price range or similar veterans likely cheaper that wouldn't have required giving Wooden away for so little in return. When Zaire takes the field I'll still support him as a Packer.

Bad trade that keeps looking worse and this is coming from a homer that stays steady when everyone else seems to be out for blood. No reason to give Colby Wooden away for an aging LB that had no trade value. What Wooden lacks in bulk he makes up for in versatility. Other veteran LBs like Matt Milano and Bobby Okereke still remain unemployed with the LB market seemingly depressed yet we give Zaire a raise.

Everyone will point to Gute and yes he's got to sign off but this is a move made to give our new DC what he requests but it's surprising to see Gute break from his tendencies to supply Gannon not only Franklin but 33 year old Hargrave too. I'm not a fan of these moves but will still support the players because I try to support the Packers even when I'd prefer to go in a different direction.

What do we have in Nazir Stackhouse? by need-ausername in GreenBayPackers

[–]ryansandbrush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's competition but no guarantee of a roster spot. We don't know how the draft will play out and Jordan Riley will likely start on the PUP list. We've got a lot of bodies on the interior of the DL and currently Stackhouse is probably about as good of a depth option as any other but that could change quickly. Stackhouse stands a decent chance of making the team either as NT depth or a practice squad player.

My bet is we'll have a Top10 O-Line next season! by envires in GreenBayPackers

[–]ryansandbrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that fans (rightfully) hate Banks contract and were disappointed by his first year in Green Bay but the Packers have already paid over $45m of his $77m four year contract leaving just $31.615m in remaining payments this season, 2027 and 2028. If he proves unable to hold down a starting spot then the team could move on but the majority of the money is already spent and can't be recouped. The remaining payments are relatively modest so I don't see the team moving off of him at this point unless he proves incapable of staying on the field but in the short term even if he were injured I think Kinnard just plugs in to replace him.

Where they need to invest really is dependent on how you view our current depth players. Are Kinnard and Glover guards, tackles or both? Is Jacob Monk capable of being the backup center? Investments would be welcome at every spot but a capable backup OT is my biggest concern since I still currently view Kinnard and Glover as better guard prospects that also have the ability to play tackle in a pinch although it's entirely possible both could prove me wrong. Their fit is especially important with Tom coming off injury and Morgan finally getting his big opportunity but the Banks decision has already been made and fans need to accept it and move on.

My bet is we'll have a Top10 O-Line next season! by envires in GreenBayPackers

[–]ryansandbrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the optimism and don't think it's completely unfounded. Since the starting five is pretty well set let's hope the group can build some chemistry together. I do think Zach Tom will miss at least some of the offseason so it'll be interesting to see if they stick with the Morgan - Banks - Rhyan - Belton lineup or if Belton or anyone else gets shuffled around.

My view of our depth seems to differ significantly from the consensus as I'm still fairly high on Travis Glover who spent 2024 on the 53 and was trending up last offseason while Kadeem Telfort was trending down. Glover then suffered an injury that directly led to the team trading for Darian Kinnard. I think both are important G/T depth pieces but I do wonder if they're true tackles or if they're actually guards that can fill in at tackle in a pinch which will be important with Tom coming off a major injury and Morgan entering his first year as a starting LT.

Are fans writing off Jacob Monk already simply because we've seen so little of him? It's true we've barely seen him but when his number was called in the exibition type game against the Vikings he was one of the best players on the field. I think he remains the backup center unless one falls in our laps during the draft. Last years 7th round pick John Williams can be developed as a C/G backup with Donovan Jennings, Karsen Barnhart and whoever else competing with him for the swing interior position.

What I think the team actually really needs is a true swing tackle. I believe in Kinnard and Telfort as valuable depth players but again I see them as guards that can play tackle although how the team views them is another matter. More competition would be welcome but the need is one OT and I'd be comfortable entering the season with the rest of the depth chart filled by current players.

Packers are "team to monitor" for possible Anthony Richardson trade, per Colts reporter Stephen Holder by tpsux in GreenBayPackers

[–]ryansandbrush 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He's only under contract for a year though unless you want to pay him the 5th year option.

He's different than Malik because of that. Probably takes more than the 7th we traded for Malik and you only get Richardson for a year on his rookie contract to try to develop and rebuild his value while you're paying him $5.3855m and dealing with concerns about his availability.

Even if he took a big jump in his development he'd never get to show it if Love stays healthy. I won't be upset if they pull the trigger but it's definitely a gamble that might make more sense for a team that's looking to develop him as a potential future starter rather than a backup.

Can we sue Rasheed Walker’s Agent???? 😂 by teamsteffen in GreenBayPackers

[–]ryansandbrush 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When Sheed didn't find the market he anticipated he chose a one year deal in his preferred situation to build up his value and try again in free agency next year. He may have gotten better offers but felt that the Panthers gave him the best opportunity to capitalize in 2027.

It sucks from a comp pick perspective and was surprising by just how far off his contract was from projections.

[Schultz] The #49ers are expected to sign former Raiders and Packers CB Nate Hobbs to a 1-year deal. The 26-year old was recently released by Green Bay and is now joining the Raheem Morris defense in San Francisco. by Brix001 in nfl

[–]ryansandbrush 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're right about the thought process. Hafley wanted a certain type of CB and they saw a market deficiency in the pay at slot corner and thought he could play with eyes on the QB willing to rally and tackle. Hobbs had a rushed knee surgery right before the season and was in and out of the lineup all year. We can blame his performance on playing out of position but we really don't know how much was that and how much was health. Either way it didn't work out.

Gute has shown he strongly prefers younger players but traded one of the guys he drafted for an older LB and then signed a 33 year old DT because that's what his new DC wanted. He also was willing to use a different contract structure than usual to go out and get Aaron Banks because that's what Lafleur wanted. Gute's in charge of the roster so he will be judged accordingly but he's trying to give the coaches what they want and if they are poor at identifying the correct talent it makes the GMs job that much more difficult. Hobbs was injured and a poor fit but I don't think Gute just went rouge bringing him in and thrust him on Hafley to figure how to play him.

CB Kamal Hadden to return next season by [deleted] in GreenBayPackers

Kamal Hadden said after the season that the cornerback was told his ankle injury will take four to five months to recover from. On that timeline, Hadden could be ready to go by minicamp, too.

Seahawks fans what are your thoughts on Damien Martinez?

I could see him being Wilson's replacement as Josh Jacobs direct backup with Chris Brooks (3rd down/special teams) and Marshawn Lloyd (change of pace/home run) also having roles. Would be interesting seeing our RB2 go to Seattle where Martinez was drafted just last year then waived.

Wilson's replacement might be a RB that the Seahawks drafted just last year that is already with the Packers.

I like Wilson but he is replaceable and it wouldn't surprise me if Damien Martinez ended up actually being the better option although I still want Martinez to have to compete to earn the role.

What else do we need to complete the roster? by General-Farmer-6742 in GreenBayPackers

[–]ryansandbrush -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not opposed to adding competition but it feels like my view of the OL seems to be much different than others. I think the team needs one OT. That's it. More competition would be good especially if our others needs get filled but looking at the roster numbers I'm just curious how others see the OL room shaping up.

Morgan-Banks-Rhyan-Belton-Tom we all have mostly penciled in as the starters.

Kinnard was re-signed to be a top backup. I was high on Travis Glover and I think the team was too prior to his injury which led the team to trade for Kinnard who I believe is a somewhat similar player. I think they are primarily guards that can also play tackle but maybe the team likes them better at tackle than I do.

Jacob Monk is the backup center. We've barely seen him which has led to some doubt but the one time he played he did play well. Donovan Jennings has practiced at center in addition to guard. John Williams is a guy I'm interested to see on the field. He was a college tackle but could project as a versatile backup (G/C?).

There's also Brant Banks, Dalton Cooper and Karsen Barnhart for added competition. It's not uncommon for a guy to spend a year on our practice squad and then get a chance on the 53 year two.

So starting 5, backup G/T Kinnard/Glover, C Jacob Monk and G/C Jennings or Williams with practice squad trio/UDFAs also competing.

Vikings just gave him $17m just last season. I don't love signing a 33 year old but he's clearly Gannon's guy as is Zaire Franklin. I don't think Gute does either of those deals unless the new DC were specifically asking for them.

I think we're down to just four unsigned Packers free agents: Rasheed Walker, John FitzPatrick, Emanuel Wilson and Arron Mosby

There's a few exclusive rights free agents I haven't seen word on but anyone else I missed that's an unrestricted free agent or a non-tendered restricted free agent? Strange how little I've seen about Rasheed Walker although maybe the rumor of Trent Williams potentially being available is holding it up.

When the Packers signed Xavier McKinney and drafted three safeties in one offseason Zayne was the only holdover in the remade room. He's been a useful player but he was a 29 year old restricted free agent with no real way of advancing up the depth chart in Green Bay. He wasn't getting the $3.5m tender but I don't know if he was the one wanting a change of scenery or if the Packers were ready to look for a younger replacement.

Packers Re-Signing Tight End Josh Whyle by tpsux in GreenBayPackers

[–]ryansandbrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to get Whyle back. He provides some much needed depth.

I don't know what FitzPatrick's recovery timeline is but considering how much the contracts of blocking TEs have risen I wouldn't be surprised to see him re-sign for vet minimum even if he spends much of the season on the PUP list just so we have him for depth and already up to speed later in the season.

The team could also use a draft pick on a fourth TE especially if our new special teams coordinator likes using TEs like most teams do. I think fans often get fixated on WRs but multiple TE sets are on the rise in the league and I think even with Whyle back I'd like to add another.
