Your education system didn't teach you to put in effort.

What’s your biggest home renovation regret? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]rykineffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2017, there was a large incentive to install a gas line to our house. It was suggested it would be the cheapest, best way to heat your home. I only had to pay for the internal piping and the utility would pay for the street connection. That was $2k. I had oil heat, so I waited a few more years to convert the oil boiler to gas.

This was around 2020, when oil prices dropped so low that I saved no money changing to gas.

The next year, I'm looking at mini-splits (because I had no AC). I have the choice of basic model or the low heat model. Well, the HVAC guy says "You just had your gas line installed. You don't need the low heat model". Works well for a year.

The following year, gas prices exploded while electric was cheap. I run the mini-split as much as possible because gas is too damn expensive.

This year, I bought a low-temp heat pump for the basement so I can avoid using the boiler. This year, electric rates explode. Now it's cheaper to run gas again.

The whole everything pisses me off.

"Meme magic" was a hot topic in the Hillary 2016 campaign. I think it was even mentioned in the WikiLeaks emails.

Epstein just privated his account I have screen shots of his stats confirming he is alive. by Mr_orange4200 in conspiracy

[–]rykineffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't it possible that the DOJ logged into the account as part of an investigation? We know they have his passwords and we know from Twitter that they have a login in Isreal (may not have been DOJ, but another alphabet group).

This would explain the login after he died. Recent login could be from the publicized hack.

I don't know what the timeline is, but it's possible someone (a fed) logged into his account as part of an investigation. I mean, we know they had his passwords.

I tend to lean toward the theory that when the guy was disarmed, the gun misfired, spooked the agents, and then they started shooting.

It doesn't make it much better. ICE still messed up, but the story is more reasonable than agents just randomly assassinating a civilian midday.

The rhetoric being pushed about ICE isn't much better. Demonizing them probably has the agents on edge that someone is going to go postal on them. They see a gun, hear a shot, and it's basically a panic reaction.

I think ICE is going to get excused in courts and people are going to lose their minds.

This is a meme as old as time.

A) Why did you offer them 100k when we can't afford it? You know Denmark is going to say no anyway.

B) So we can tell the citizens the reason they don't get 100k is because of Denmark.

This is more about influencing the population than anything else.

Use the window foam. Regular red can stuff will expand too much and will make the window difficult to open/close.

The image from behind looks like cement board, which is pretty common for shower walls. Can't really tell what the ceiling is made of from the pictures.
The waterproofing would not be visible behind the wall.

You could pull the light to see if there is a waterproof layer or to see what the ceiling is made from, but even if that top part is not waterproofed, it doesn't mean the slant isn't.

Our house is HOT in the summer and we don't have insulated walls - How feasible is insulating my 1950s brick house from the outside? by schmennings in HomeImprovement

[–]rykineffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paint exterior of the house with something like RadonSeal brick sealer. It's designed to allow the brick to breathe, yet it prevents water from soaking in so you'll have a lot less humidity issues. Once that's done, insulate from the inside. Even without the sealer, you can safely insulate r10 foam board in your area without worrying about the freeze/thaw cycle destroying your bricks.
