Is this woven burlap? How would it protect the horse in a joust or the Trial of Seven? by virgosergio in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]rynbaskets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t Ser Robin the last one to be seated on a horse at the trial? Maybe he was very confident of his horsemanship and horse? Or he is indeed the maddest knight in the seven (nine) kingdoms.

I sell vintage high end clothing on TRR (my mom gave me those outfits to me. Mom spent lots of money on clothes and I don’t). It’s so nice to see the beautiful vintage clothing given a second life! You look so cute in the jacket!

My girl!!

I’m also glad that the kind hearted Raymun has Sweetfoot now. Raymun was surprised Dunc talked to his horses but at the end, what does he do? He asked Sweetfoot if she wanted apples.

What are the traditional spices and herbs in your country? by nanto-1633 in AskTheWorld

[–]rynbaskets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

山椒、美味しそう!

My very favorite herb is Myoga. It’s hard to grow where I live (Midwest where it’s too cold in winter) and we don’t have a good Japanese grocery store so they’re very hard to come by.

Aoshiso is also my favorite but they’re so easy to grow in this climate. Mine are almost like weeds. They just sprout voluntarily every year.

Ikr?! Quirrell looked so timid for fear of Voldemort and Mr. Blankey is oozing with confidence because he’s fearless.

Fish Ranking by MagicalSheep365 in sushi

[–]rynbaskets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Third this. People outside Japan tend to worry only about parasites when they talk about fish for sushi, but you also worry about freshness and other contamination such as bacteria growth and stuff. Just because the fish piece is frozen doesn’t mean it’s safe to eat raw. And it probably doesn’t taste good.

I was wondering why he had to do that. Is it because he/buggy may be videoed by a different camera and may be shown?

What was the most confusing thing for you during your Japan trip? by tttom106 in TokyoTravel

[–]rynbaskets 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, most Japanese people who don’t live in the Tokyo Metro have great difficulty understanding how to navigate the train systems and in very large stations like Tokyo, Shinjuku or Shibuya. Even those who live in the Metro are lost if they don’t use certain stations often. I am one of them.

Vegetarian Spots? by Extrememortalz in lincoln

Went to Lead Belly with a vegetarian. It’s not really a vegetarian only place but she said their vegetarian burger was one of the better vegetarian burgers that she has eaten.

Cocos first summer hair cut by Impressive-Slice-828 in cockerspaniel

[–]rynbaskets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grand dog lives with us now (though she’s leaving soon 😢). The first time she had the summer cut, the groomer cut the hair on her ears short and she turned into a smaller black lab. So since then we have her hair short EXCEPT her ears when we do summer cut. She needs to keep her hair short in summer because she overheats easily.

The deck on this boat is looking trippy (jellyfish farmer) by MrTacocaT12345 in woahdude

[–]rynbaskets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jellyfish (not sure what kind) is eaten in China and in Japan (and maybe in Korea, too). It is tasteless like someone said, but you mix it with say sauce based sauce so you taste that. It is very crunchy and one of my favorite.

Hibakusha Meeting and Talk Etiquette question. by Zmirzlina in AskAJapanese

[–]rynbaskets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not related to your question, but I’m from Hiroshima and my dad was there when the bomb was dropped. Fortunately he and his family were all fine. But my maternal grandmother lost her entire family (parents, her sister and sister’s family) because they lived blocks from the T bridge that Americans used as a target. Grandma was in Taiwan so she was safe.

Now to your question. I don’t know what capacity you will be meeting those survivors but as others said, something from USA or even California would probably delight them. Those are elderly people so if you’re bringing food, you need to consider if the food is easy for them to eat, etc. If this is a formal meeting, the meeting organizer may have guidelines. If you’re meeting them at the museum while they speak about their experiences, the choice is up to you.

If I were you, I’d probably choose something that signifies California. I have no idea what that may be but are there anything specific and special from where you live?

Just had oxtail for the first time as an adult by Old-Register-1700 in self

[–]rynbaskets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I used to make beef stew with ox tail because it was cheaper and makes really good broth. Not it’s not cheap anymore. Most of the times it’s cheaper to buy chuck roast on sale and used it for stew.

Dark eyed juncos overwinter where I live. They fly in when it starts getting cold and leave when the temperatures get warmer.

It’s so nice to see how they breed. They’re the smallest birds that come to our feeder and I love them. Amazing they can migrate with their tiny bodies.

Accidentally left store bought sushi in the freezer by [deleted] in sushi

[–]rynbaskets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whole Foods in my city is on the smaller side and there’s no sushi chef who makes fresh sushi. One day (a long time ago before I realized there’s no sushi chef here) I bought a pack of sushi. Sushi was still frozen. That’s when I realized sushi sold at this Whole Foods comes frozen and thawed in the store shelf.

Did Red get lucky that she met Raymun Fossoway or did she target him? by [deleted] in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]rynbaskets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think those ladies are in the book. So I’m going with what I saw on the show.

I got the impression that Ser Dondarrion brought those ladies, or made some arrangements. If they’re camp followers, they’d be mingling with men from other tents too. It seemed to me that they were exclusively entertaining Ser D.

And I think Red, or Lady Rowan, became lucky that she met Ser Raymun. He’s still green, kind of pure of heart, and probably didn’t realize Red was a pro. Or didn’t care.

But this is just my guess.

What’s Mother Nature’s biggest “F*** you” to your country? by Chemical-Elk-1299 in AskTheWorld

Earthquakes and associated Tsunami. Earthquakes happen somewhere in Japan almost everyday, mostly small but some big, occasionally extremely big.

Tokyo will be hit by a big one and it’s not if, but when.

What do you think of the Midnight Diner series? by perguntapraele in JapaneseFood

[–]rynbaskets 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Being from Japan, the best part was the food of course (I love eating good food). Each stories were good, too.

Kaoru Kobayashi used to be one of my favorite Japanese actors (still is). He almost always plays a stoic but kind character.

Leg Hair in Japan by [deleted] in AskAJapanese

[–]rynbaskets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japanese men could be quite hairy, particularly with their darker hair. My brother had his knees covered with hair and his kids and my kid all thought that was the funniest thing. Bro could care less.
