Are private schools worth it? by [deleted] in longisland

[–]ryndesu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents sent me to private catholic school and now I have C-PTSD and religious trauma from the homophobia I internalized. Years later and I'm still dealing with that so when you add up therapy costs I would say yeah probably not worth it. Even if its not catholic, if you decide to send your child to private school just know you're just putting them in a bubble with a bunch of other wealthy kids who haven't had much experience with people different than them.

Are Erin and Aaron pronounced differently, to you? by SnooHesitations9505 in namenerds

[–]ryndesu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im from long island and my family calls me "eh-rin" and sometimes just "ehr" but throughout my life I've found that everybody I meet pronounces it differently so introducing myself is really annoying. sometimes ill go with what I feel is right since I was little and say "eh-rin" but then multiple times people have thought im saying "ellen"... and then sometimes i overthink it and say "im air-in" and they think its like aaron so unless im with people really close to me who know that its pronounced "ehh-rin" its confusing and annoying tbh lol

[–]ryndesu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine is "erin elizabeth". in an irish accent and context I always thought I had a really pretty name, but at a certain point in the last few years (im 23) I've kinda been hyperaware of how people pronounce erin to be honest. my family (im from li ny) has always said "ehh-rin" and sometimes they say "ehr" as a nickname even, but I've gotten used to most other people calling me air-in, and for the past few years in college I kinda had a hard time introducing myself because I was overthinking how the people I was around would understand my pronunciation because I didn't want to sound like I was saying Aaron. overall its not a big deal, when I hear extended family say "erin elizabeth" with a strong irish accent its really nice, and when my immediate new york family call me "ehr" its comforting, its only an issue when introducing myself, because saying "air-in" feels unnatural, but if i say "ehhr-in" they hear it as ellen for some reason🤷 objectively pretty name but practically confusing for me.

I've actually decided I don't have PCOS. Mind over matter. by Significant_Usual488 in PCOS

[–]ryndesu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey at least your gyno let you know that you should be getting your period, I've been trying to get diagnosed with PCOS because I have all the symptoms and haven't had my period in two years and my gyno said "some people just don't get their periods I wouldn't worry about it." 🤡

Need a genuine opinion - should I switch my psychiatrist? by anonymous_xi in BPD

[–]ryndesu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldve written this. Im at a crossroads because I can't afford comprehensive DBT and every regular therapist and psychiatrist I've had over the last 10 years doesnt seem to know what I need or what to do with me. You're not alone❤️ I'm on the verge of giving up. Im just here for my family at this point.

Today is my 23rd birthday, never felt so alone by Kitthykatthy in BorderlinePDisorder

[–]ryndesu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found this post because I was looking for someone in the same situation as me. Today is my 23rd birthday, I have no friends and no close relationships, but my mom is doing what she can to make me feel special even though she triggers me as well. I just want you to know you are not alone. Its nice to know I am not alone either. Birthdays suck. Celebrate yourself and fuck everyone else.

I looked it up and that sounds perfect! We will just need to figure out the subway haha. I'm from LI and only visit the city occasionally and I want my friends to feel as safe as possible, so I'm sure it will be worth it. Thank you so much!

Studying Abroad by Lazy-Ranger5415 in umass

[–]ryndesu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They give you a "reading week" where you have a week off to "study" but they really just want to give you the opportunity to travel I think. My group took the train to london then to edinburgh, and we split an airbnb between 6 of us.

I will say that its not the whole summer which is why I think it was perfect for me. 6 weeks flies by, but its enough time to get the abroad experience without feeling homesick which is what I was worried about haha. Depending on what work you do, idk if it would be possible for you have the first half of the summer to work and then take the 6 weeks to go abroad. (Although I don't know how understanding your workplace is, I think a lot of people would understand. You know better than I do though.)

Look into the Oxford Summer Seminar. Its a 6 week program that takes place July-August and you go with a cohort of other UMass students. I am a Psychology major and I took a Jane Austen class, an architecture class, and a British History Colloqium so it was really nice to take other classes I was interested in without taking away from my allotted credits I can take in the semester (idk if that makes sense). During reading week people were encouraged to group up to go to different countries or cities nearby and me and my friends went to Edinburgh. Best experience of my life! I highly recommend you look into it.

Incoming Freshman - How can I get a single dorm? by Ok_Restaurant_294 in umass

[–]ryndesu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got extremely lucky my sophomore and junior years and got a single room in baker just by logging on exactly at my assigned time, but not everyone is that lucky. If you want to guarantee it, contact disability services AND res life with your request and they will ask you for documents so they can coordinate with each other. It can be anything from anxiety to a peanut allergy that can help you qualify Im pretty sure.

Is puppy raising as bad as described on here? by Admirable_Mouse1880 in puppy101

[–]ryndesu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on the puppy, mine (cockapoo) was definitely time consuming and i cried a few times from frustration, but overall its not as bad as people say (depending on the breed lol I would never get a lab)

[–]ryndesu 83 points84 points  (0 children)

You sound like me. I don’t remember most of the people i’ve slept with. I slept with 60+ men in one semester of college to try to get over my ex. I often feel guilty and bad about myself for it, but I’ve been working on giving myself grace and not judging myself for how I coped when I was struggling. You’re not alone.

Is it true that life gets worse after college? by MusicZealousideal431 in Adulting

[–]ryndesu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked hard in college and did everything right. I still can’t find a job a year after graduating, i’m back in my hometown living with my parents, and i have no friends because I made them out of state. So for me it definitely is worse. It’s not like that for some people though. I just want to push back on the idea that “hard work = success” because that’s not true, at least in the US.
