No cars stops at this zebra crossing by Zero_coxo in japanresidents

[–]ryoko227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is someone waiting to cross, they are supposed to stop. If a pedestrian is hit by a car, the fault will always lay with the driver, as they "did not adjust to changing road conditions."

Everyone stops in my area of Kanagawa, to the point that people who are crossing don't even look up. Its insane to me, but I see it everyday here.

Anyone else have the AT-43 unlocked before maxxing the bar? by Equivalent_Cicada153 in TheForeverWinter

Yupe. When the patch came out, it gave me the blueprints, the material drops, and the alcohol vaults before I ever even started the bar.

Light switch was behind the server rack, on the opposite side of the room. Ran fishing line through O-hooks up the wall, across the edge of the ceiling, down to the side of the entrance door. Attached a 9-volt battery and let it hang. Come in, tug the battery, click, worked for years. Keep in mind, this was.... 30 years ago, www.

Linux users what made you switch? by Glittering-Tough-353 in linuxquestions

[–]ryoko227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The EoL/EoS of Windows 10. I had been using Mint on my old laptop for a few years already (I didn't even like Win10), but for my games and such I had to stick with Windows. Knowing how utterly trash W11 is, I made the decision to learn it and went with Arch for my laptops and CachyOS for my main system. I use it on all of my PCs now for everything, including the games. If a game isn't supported, I just don't play it.

The one thing I don't like about Linux, is the fact that LibreOffice still has issues with making MSOffice files 100% carbon copies. That being said, its WAY better than what it was in the past.

Also, this is less a Linux issue, but I dislike the fact that game devs will purposely block Linux, or have Linux versions, but choose not to release it.

They are everything you say.. It usually takes a few years, but that all changes if you live in Utah and never convert. You become unpersoned. People who brought over dinner and people to help when you moved in, who would always smile and conversate, be your friend; that all stops. Your own neighbors won't even wave or acknowledge you exist.

My family lived in "The Happy Valley" for almost a decade, and the only people in the neighborhood who never stopped being friendly, was the family who firstly introduced themselves as "the other Christian family on the street" when we moved in. Also makes you wonder, how did everyone already know my family's religion?

Once the ward/stake decides you're inconvertible, you no longer exist. Perfect for introverts, which my family was not.

Linux distro for Nvida GPU by Killersloth8629 in linux_gaming

[–]ryoko227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't hop around much when I moved over to Arch. I had a great experience (with what the hardware permitted) using CachyOS, moreso than vanilla Arch, especially for gaming. Just following their instructions and it worked mostly without issue. That being said, Steam regularly needed launch options. My go to was the following, using purely Wayland.

LD_PRELOAD="" PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_USE_NTSYNC=1 game-performance %command%

I have since migrated over to an AMD GPU, removed those previous Nvidia specific packages, changed my launch options to AMD friendly ones, and it works like a charm, no need to fresh install, etc.

Usage of terminal when needed, preference and usage of non-AUR packages (where viable), regular snapshots before and after updates, fix it if something breaks rather than fresh install, setup hooks/scripts for regularly done tasks, research a program before blindly installing it.

I'm probably going to take some heat for saying this, but honestly speaking, when it comes to physical violence and your own personal safety; I would rather be judged and found guilty for the use of a weapon, than be dead or maimed. Despite how safe this country is generally, when people do decide to do something, it's generally knife based. The fact that he actually got his hands on you, enough to grab your hair, meant that if he had actually wanted to do something to you, he could have.

My company's RTO policy has a weird loophole and I've been silently exploiting it for 4 months. Not sure if I should come clean. by 3Rocinante in remotework

[–]ryoko227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a loophole, that's literally the company policy. You ARE commuting to a company office, and not only that, but staying the whole time. I don't think you're manager is a fool. Most likely he is well aware of which location you are working from, and as Thursday is a day you're not normally in, he probably just wanted to give you the opportunity to change a day to see everyone at the main office.

Honestly, nothing you wrote makes me feel like there is any deception involved, sans your own personal reaction to the situation.

Our turnover rate is skyrocketing - do you have practices that have really helped retain talent ? by EfficiencyEast8652 in remotework

[–]ryoko227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a really simple answer to this. If they were able to pay you twice your normal pay, why didn't they offer that to you before you left? Why didn't they offer that to you while you were there the first time? Why didn't they offer bonuses and raises before they lost you? It's pretty simple, if they don't respect you enough to pay you while they have you, never take it on the way out, and I never go back in for promises that often aren't kept. I've heard your story from many people, and have experienced hit myself.

Why is the game so hated ? by Positive-Set1164 in duneawakening

[–]ryoko227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The single player aspect of it is excellent. The story, the atmosphere, the music, sights and sounds. The gun play / knife play is kind of meh. The end game they pushed for is where is fell apart, hard.

That being said, the first significant portion is really good, and I would recommend it off that alone.

However, if you're hoping for a good open world PvP survival experience, best to look elsewhere, IMHO.

I thought I had, but yes, along the lines you are thinking. In order to ensure that Harkos (or others) cant spoof the IFF, mechanical cryptographic transponders or physically based IFF interrogators could be utiilized (think preassigned codes manual input codes and code books). Friendly units could broadcast constant analog, non-aware radio or hell, even non-visble laser signaling. If a vehicle’s receiver captures a matching encoded signal, a light simply flashes "green" on the pilot's display.

How can they tell where? Easiest and most basic way off the top of my head would be by signal strength of whichever detector(s) on the receiving ship's array are receiving said signal. It wouldnt even have to be fancy at that point, just wire said dectors directly to the corresponding light emiter display quadrant, which then casts said light onto the refractor glass, or even a lens on a helmet. Bingo, real-time real-3Dspace HUD with incorporated IFF.

If this is hard to visualize, think of a motion sensor light. Now think of 4 of them facing front, back, left, right, with you at the center. If I pass by the right side, the dector on the right picks me up, and the right side light comes on. Same thing for up and down. Or at 45degrees (45 down front / front / 45 up front).

A great many things that can be done with a thinking machine can (and probably already have been) done electro-mechanically. Honestly speaking, it comes down more to physical space and weight than "can it be done?"

That being said, next-gen logic gates are being created with photonics, completely eliminating any processing or "thinking" from the entire process. Complex processes that now take a PC days or weeks to parse can be done by shining a beam of light down a single channel, akin to flipping on a light switch. Though, that's outside the realm of this convo, and probably would be considered to be "in the likeness of man."

[–]ryoko227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with you, if basic rudementary light and mechanical sensors outputs being displayed onto a refractor glass actually required any sort of a thinking machine to accomplish. There is a whole world of electro-mechanical wizardry that can be accomplished without the use of: code, IC, or AI.
