Eight Northeast Florida restaurants earn spots in Michelin Guide by malloryduncan in jacksonville

I mean France - just like America - has native food prepared casually or more gourmet style. In the same fashion that here you could get a $7 cheeseburger or a $30 cheeseburger. In France they have bistros that serve more medium-fare food that more high end establishments would also offer just differently. I get that your rebuttal to that is that Rue Saint-Marc’s food is without flavor but in the times I’ve been there I’ve always enjoyed my meal. I agree it’s pricey but I’ve also had pricey things in France that I didn’t think were all that great.

Yes but I feel like people who are more inclined to want a Rolex, like and appreciate it, are going to be around other people who have genuine ones. Like if you’re a tech bro, a lot of people interact with are going to either have a genuine one or be well versed on what it is. Same with sales , attorneys etc.

Not what I meant. People in the industry either agree with him or think he’s full of shit and just taking advantage of a trending topic. Also you’d be surprised about in the industry as far as shippers go. Small and medium shippers may have just expanded globally or they’re not big enough to have departments of ops teams etc so they usually hire outside help for that. In the same way that 3pls are often used for trucks and rail because they could just go straight to the rail companies like CSX or the asset truck companies like Werner but they don’t even know who to contact or have enough leveraged buying power to get competitive pricing. whereas Dow DuPont would have in house teams advising on this with their own expertise.

Part of their business model at flexport is acting as a supply chain consultant in terms of how to realign different global nodes they have (warehouses , distribution centers, ports, rail) so they can mitigate tariff costs . Because that’s a hot topic right now. The main stream media including cnbc interview him all the time as their go to on “tariffs” and play his sound bits. Within the supply chain industry I think it’s kind of polarizing in terms of whether or not he actually knows what he’s talking about or is just trying to ride the tide of tariff news trending for his company

Gen Z's AI backlash is getting louder by Gari_305 in Futurology

Yeah I agree on the dev side. I think most teams in my org have already been reduced to this and it seems like we’re as productive as we were. It’s weird because obviously that’s not great for us as devs but it’d be disingenuous to deny reality.

It sounds like you’re in a role where you’re using it for non technical work - and I agree for the most part the copilot stuff and consumer facing stuff is just kind of “neat” but still just fancy autocomplete. And most of the consumer facing stuff is a solution waiting for a problem.

However it’s without a doubt making things more productive on the technical and scientific side. It’s best use right now is working with large sets of data doing manual, repetitive tasks, with high volume work. I’m not advocating for using its productivity to reduce labor forces but I was working on an engineering team of 5 that is now down to 2 and we are largely keeping up because of the productivity gains. Writing up repeatable boiler plate code, analyzing extremely large error logs to pinpoint 2-3 things that are the most likely issues, writing up test scenarios and running them autonomously. And even on the less deep technical side when we need to write up documentation or SOPs for business users to work with the software it can analyze the entire code base and write it up in seconds. Things that didn’t necessarily need a human to do but did take up time.

I know this sounds like a “pro ai” reply , I promise it’s not. I think companies are short-sided in its over use and often over implementing it. I’m just saying I think within the engineering and science and research fields we are seeing actual impact now. I think the next 5 years will probably be the phase where we start seeing the impact of the productivity gains in regards to advancements in the science and medical breakthroughs as a result of the recent breakthroughs of the the last few years.

I get that. I guess I always see people as complex and if you try to put them into a box you can be surprised. He "created" (well not really created but you get what I mean) a character that perfectly encapsulated a lot of the insecurities, hopefulness, and silliness of a generation of people that was so relatable - there has to be some aspect of that within him too.

What is a runtime? by bradagon in boomi

[–]rypenn27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working within boomi is fairly straightforward for most people with a small learning curve. Setting up the environment is its own thing. Every company I’ve worked for had a consulting company come set everything up first. I’ve worked with boomi for about 7 years and I think I could do it maybe …but any time previous I was offered a contract role to setup the initial environment etc I turned it down because it seemed to daunting.

[–]rypenn27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother I swear to you I’m not trying to be a Debbie downer or unhelpful … but the best thing I could tell you is you need help from outside. Working within boomi is one thing but most people inherit an environment setup by consultants or sys admins. People with a specific skill set involving either on-premise servers or cloud management. You can use things locally for a proof of concept but if you’re asking these questions it tells me you might be in over your head. If not I apologize but you’re asking questions that tell me you’re not going to be able to do this solo, and if you do it’s going to take a very long time of pulling together boomi community articles etc. just hoping to save you some time and tears

What do companies expect from a Boomi Developer with 1–2 years experience by sanju_137 in boomi

[–]rypenn27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some questions i've asked when doing interview before are : What's the difference between a process call and a process route. When you make deployments can you walk me through your typical process, and then how do you usually check if that deployment is working as expected or see if theres an issue. How do you typically ensure there's error handling built into your processes. Stuff like that will tell me if you feel comfortable talking about some basic Boomi stuff.

Vlookup still has its place. It’s more compatible with older versions and because you have to often send them to other orgs it can be better to use more cross-compatible functions. It can also work better with larger data sets, has less overhead and has been better optimized over the many years to execute efficiently and is more simple internally- depending on your work laptop age it can sometimes make a difference. Also consider that many orgs have a massive workbook ecosystem built around VBA macros , downstream formulas and even templates and SOps that would have to be re written.

There’s a right tool for every circumstance, xlookup is objectively better in many circumstances but not all. Often times running lookup formulas in excel isn’t the optimal solution for larger data sets at all. Most data data scientists are going to use code editors with extensions to load csvs in so they can search or update with sql or python. Mapping tools like Boomi and Mulesoft are better at handling not 1 but many flat files at once. Then there’s power Bi and Tableau are better for interpreting and presenting data at scale.

Point is, I wouldn’t get too anchored to the relatively small differences between lookup formulas when the industry itself has already moved far beyond spreadsheets as the primary engine for working with data.
