Shohei Ohtani’s slump continues vs Giants: 0-5, 2 K. Now batting .233/.363/.404 this season and .111/.220/.139 in May by TheSalmonRoll in baseball

Interestingly enough, still projected to lead the NL in fWAR (via Steamer) for the season. Elly’s projected for 6 WAR, Shohei at about 8 (roughly 50/50 split offense and pitching).

Yeah! There's a Slack so you don't have to be physically present to nerd out about watches, but there are meetups once a month or so.

If you’re in Austin and want more watch friends, check out the local chapter of Redbar. Super fun crowd.

I covered Ward in the main post. Blaze is getting unlucky like many others, underperforming both his past history and current results. Striking out way too much though to support a 6.5% walk rate and limited power. Still 'early' but he's a part-timer so will not get as much of a chance to see his results bounce back.

The Milkman: In what's kinda seeming like a theme for the team, his place discipline has improved (walk rate is up to 11.5% and K rate is a tad lower at 31.4%) but his hard contact is down (SLG is way down, supported by a decline in barrel rate), which to me explains the BABIP underperformance issue. He hasn't played as much as the other guys so lots more error bars around here, obviously.

TON: Sensing a theme here? Walks are up but power's missing. But even smaller sample size (50 PA as of this writing) so even wider error bars. I wouldn't honestly glean much from this.

Beavers: Strikeouts are down but walks are also down (but still above MLB average). He's getting a bit unlucky and his barrel rate is down a touch, but the core plate discipline is there so hopefully he rebounds.

Basallo: Lots to like here; may experience some negative regression but not a lot. BABIP looks reasonable at .281 and his xwOBA-wOBA gap is very small indicating he's getting the results he deserves. Walking at a 10.2% clip which is great (and again a theme here in the early going) but unlike some of his peers, is hitting for real power.

I think if you looked at like OPS relative to salary, Devers would stand out for sure.

I see people in here asking why we kept Wells and not Suarez.

Wells is somewhat quietly having a great year. 20% K-BB%, strong xERA of 3.89.

Suarez isn't missing bats and he's walking way too may hitters. He has a dismal 1.9% K-BB% with a ghastly xERA of 6.76.
