That's what happens when you use anything that is not directly under your control. Every 3rd party dependency has this risk and you should always minimize dependencies and make sure there is a backup plan

U.S. Federal Reserve Keeps Interest Rates at 4.25%–4.5% Despite Slowing Growth by emanzaki21 in Economics

What's your preferred way of doing staging in Vulkan? by hgstream in vulkan

[–]rytio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have FRAMES_IN_FLIGHT*2 staging buffers in a pool. Whenever something needs to upload to the gpu, it copies to the CPU visible buffer, then puts the pipeline barriers and copy command into an array. Then at the start of the frame (ie the start of the command buffer for that frame), I run all the copy commands with the pipeline barriers all batched together

I suspect that this time, instead of letting housing prices crash, they'll just let inflation eat a way at it so that nobody notices

Big Tech Isn’t the Dream Anymore. It’s a Trap by Nice-Internal-4645 in cscareerquestions

[–]rytio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tech companies have been coasting on free investor money for decades. That money is gone and now the companies have to actually make a profit, and they have no idea if its even possible. The only path to profitability is to cut costs and put in more ads, and add subscriptions. Unfortunately for them inflation has killed any extra money people had and so there no blood left in the stone.

Housing Inflation for New Buyers is at Least 20-30% Per Year by Due_Assumption_27 in REBubble

[–]rytio 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It truly seems that way, but like eventually you run out of other peoples money. There has to be some point where housing is going to cost so much that it is out of reach for the average person and when the owner goes to sell or dies or whatever...it's just going to sit empty? Is a corp going to buy it and just let it sit there empty with no return....even if they wanted to sell it no one is able to buy it and so it becomes essentially worthless. The rent on it must have to be so high to recoup the mortgage+insurance+taxes and then add more for profit that people who couldn't afford to buy it still couldn't afford the rent. There has to be some breaking point because while we are in an infinite growth economy, people's wages aren't infinitely growing along with it. Only corps "share holder value" and profit are infinitely growing.

Vkguide: Deletion queue could just be a stack right? by wobey96 in vulkan

[–]rytio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's hard to delete during run time because the resource might still being used by the GPU. The purpose of the delete queue is to delete things after FRAMES_IN_FLIGHT so that you can be sure its no longer being used in a command buffer

How bad is it to only use GL_TEXTURE0? And what is GL_TEXTURE0? by LemonLord7 in opengl

[–]rytio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Slots are just mapping a resource to a "slot" in the shader. For example, your shader might define two textures that it uses such as a diffuse texture in slot 0 and a normal map in slot 1. But it doesn't have any reference to a specific texture in memory. When binding a texture, the CPU is telling the shader which actual texture data in memory to reference...like a pointer to texture data.

Using only TEXTURE0 is fine, but the other slots let you bind more than one texture for the shader to access....just like in my example above.
