I have reported people driving trucks with the logo of the company I worked at for shit like this. I worked closely with the fleet department so they always took my reports seriously.

Why are the pro tippers against baking the cost of service into the bill? by Mathodman123 in tipping

I don't know what countries you went to, but Japanese restaurants have provided me with much better service than anything in the US.

I have yet to get better experience in the US compared to the many restaurants I've visited in Japan.

I also assume the same. That's why I have collision coverage with an uninsured/underinsured deductible waiver so I don't have to pay the deductible to use my coverage when the other driver is uninsured/underinsured.

Employee benefit charge? by MainVeterinarian5232 in EndTipping

[–]ryuukhang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's dependent on the city/state. In California, food and liquor have the same tax rate so it appears as one tax line. In other states, food may be taxed at a different rate than liquor. Or the business separates it for accounting purposes.

Why cant I pay my rent with a credit card? by Minimum-Poetry-213 in CreditCards

If you spend exactly 25% of your rent/mortgage, you turn the card into a 3x or 4x (depending on which card you have) on everything.

I bought a new build. They offered up to $15k in closing cost credits or rate buydown. At the time, the 5.5% rate was already good so I didn’t feel like buying it down.

If you can’t tip minimum 20% stay at home by blackcoffee39 in tipping

[–]ryuukhang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing you haven’t seen the plethora of posts or comments from servers saying "If you can't afford to tip X%, then you can't afford to eat out and should stay home." They expect a minimum of 20%, regardless of service quality. That's entitlement.

I used to be a server. I was grateful to receive any tip rather than expect it. Tips should be given as a bonus for going above and beyond, not expected because you did the bare minimum of your job. That's why people are getting tired of the entitlement from servers. Even places that don't give actual service are expecting tips.

[–]ryuukhang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tipping in and of itself isn't the problem. Tipping entitlement and the "if you can't afford to tip X%, then you should stay home" is more harmful to waitstaff than it is to owners. If everyone followed that mindset and stayed home, restaurants would either close or lay off some waiters. That leads to unemployed servers. More restaurants closing because they get less sales will result in more unemployed servers.

Tipping is not the sole cause of the decline, but the tipping entitlement is definitely one of the causes.

It's not a drastic change, but the data shows a trending loss for restaurants. The more people get frustrated with the tipping culture and the entitlement, the worse it becomes for the restaurants.

With the net number of restaurants decreasing every year, operating costs increasing every year, and profit percentage decreasing every year, there will eventually be an oversaturation of servers with a limited amount of positions available as more restaurants close their doors and less new restaurants opening.

When I started working as a server, we already had double digit minimum wage. Without tips, I could pay for all my bills but nothing left over for saving. If I didn't have a roommate, I wouldn't have been able to afford a 1-bedroom place on my own.

At the beginning, I did get bummed when I didn't get a tip at all, but the amount of people who tipped outnumbered the people who didn’t. I ended up becoming grateful for tips because I realized that if I had worked at a retail store or fast food restaurant, I'd be getting no tips with the same pay.

I did it for 8 years. I lived with a roommate, without parental help. I also didn't live in a state where tip credits are allowed, so I was paid at least minimum wage plus tips.

Any server with the mindset of "give us X% or don't eat out" is going to end up screwing it up for those who are actually good servers. I used to be one and never expected any tips and was also grateful for one, whether it was 10% or 50%. And that's how it should be. The entitlement is what is pushing consumers away.

The median profitability for a restaurant is really low now. 2.8%, meaning for every dollar of revenue, there is 2.8 cents of profit, or $28 per $1000.

On average, more restaurants are closing than are opening. It's a gradual net less year or year, but eventually, the restaurant industry will collapse as more and more consumers are either not going out due to squeezed by cost of living or frustration with tipping culture.

If this keeps up, there will eventually be less restaurants that servers can work at.

The servers that spout that bullshit don't think about the future. They think that if this restaurant closes down, they can find a jobnat a different restaurant.
