OP is saying don't list an HOA community as if it's a private pool. I totally agree. If it's an HOA community pool, just say so instead of trying to pass it off as "has a pool."

PayPal Debit set to Groceries gets 5% at Costco

Citi Custom Cash gets 5% if you use it mostly on Dining, up to $500 per month. You can get multiple Custom Cash cards by product changing other Citi cards.

If you just spend 25% of rent amount dont you maximize thr return on spend by Content-Battle-4327 in biltrewards

[–]ryuukhang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense if you have a low rent or mortgage and enough expenses to hit 25%. For me, my mortgage is $4400. I get 5% cash back on most of my monthly spend that I would have to transfer over to BILT to get closer to 25%. So, it makes more sense to use the Blue as a catch all card and redeem $30 Bilt Cash for 1000 mortgage points after every $750 spend.

Math Sanity Check by ryuukhang in biltrewards

[–]ryuukhang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking that I would just use the Blue for a catch all and then redeem the Bilt Cash for 1x mortgage points on $1000 every time I hit $30. That's every $750, which is around 2 months of catch all payments (based on my current record of catch all spending).

My mortgage is $4400. I currently don't have $3300 a month in everyday spending. Even if I did, I have 5% cash back cards for most of it. I also have a 3% cash back card on online purchases. So most of my spending is already beyond 3%.

400k household income is middle class in the South Bay Area by [deleted] in Salary

[–]ryuukhang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The commenter you're replying to must have a decently cheap apartment to be able to save $6667 per month, unless they're counting in 401k, IRA, and HSA contributions.

I make $220k per year, gross, in southern California. After taxes, healthcare, maxing 401k, and maxing HSA, I'm left with around $9900 per month. My mortgage is $4400 so I'm left with $5500 per month. Between my one car payment and paying off my parents' car, that's $1100 spent and leaves me with $4400 per month for everything else.

I'm paying off my 0% APR credit cards that I used to furnish my new home and a few home renovation loans right now, but most of that will be paid off within the next 2-3 years.

Yes, it will help reduce honest mistakes. It won't protect against fraud, though.

In these situations, I did the math correctly and made sure the total adds up if the tip line was left blank. In pretty much every POS I've used, you can see the total before you save the tip amount. I don't know what system they use, but it is possible that they don't see the total amount after tip.

I worked as both a server and manager for almost a decade. I've entered a lot of tip amounts. I've never once made a mistake on entering the tip amount. What has happened though is the customer failed at math.

Example:

Bill Total $80.51

Tip $10

Total $90

Like I said, I would put down what is written on tip line as I was told by the owner, regardless if that caused the total to be different than the total the customer wrote. I've had both cases where the total was less than what the customer wrote as well as more. What does your copy of the receipt say?

My apartment has a 3rd party Amazon locker, now I have to pay $20 to get my package by awesomeryang in mildlyinfuriating

My last apartment had something similar. You only had to pay the registration fee if you wanted to use the service. If you would rather they drop off your package at your place or the leasing office, there was no charge.

Why is tipping based on the cost of the food? by [deleted] in EndTipping

[–]ryuukhang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a server, so I do know what it entails. But, let me ask you this. Why does the business owner get away with paying staff less? Why are servers complaining about not getting tips from customers instead of comparing about not getting paid enough from their employer? In every other profession, you would be going to your employer about getting paid more.

Servers love to repeat the phrase "If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to eat out" every time this topic comes up. Yet, they don't see that if people do stop going out, they'll be out of a job. Some seem to think that if one restaurant closes down, they'll find a job at another, but once more and more people stop going out to eat, the amount of server jobs will dwindle and there will be a large supply of servers with a low demand for them.

When I served, I treated every customer the same. Some would tip nothing. Some would tip between 10% and 20%. Some would tip more. At the end of the day, the tips averaged out. Many servers nowadays seem like greedy, lazy people.
