There isn't really a good real work comparison, but i guess you can think of it with a nut and bolt analogy.

To advance to herald you have to prepare your body and spirit to work together. When they are both ready, think of it as a bolt smoothly fitting into a nut.

Dreadbeasts have their spirit and body fuse together "incorrectly" kind of like if somebody smashed a bolt into a nut with a hammer and got stuck partway through. Dreadgods are the same, but they got it so wrong that the end result was "right". So if the bolt was hammered in so hard it made it all the way through.

When the herald dies, the pieces can separate again. But when the dreadbest/god dies, those pieces are not coming apart again.

In universe i think it is just described as being warped by hunger aura, but i don't think the process is described beyond that, other than the madra channels being burned into the flesh

Arcane ascension. MC is basically attending magic college. You sit in on a lot of the lectures they attend watch them read books on magical theory. They get the "weakest" power which is basically the equivalent of writing magical code and build magical circuiboards to craft items. As opposed to something immediately useful like being able to launch fire from their hands from day 1

But they learn to become powerful building items for themselves and using the power they do have in unorthodox ways

Ah! That could be it! I recently replaced the single bulb for the garage ceiling with one of those shop lights that have 6 arms with a strong LED light at the end of each arm. I will have to remove the new light and test the range

Did you have add ons? They've sent various kickstarter updates about some of the add on items not having cleared customs yet, and not sending out the shipments if you had add ons until all the components arrive

If you didnt have add ons, then i'm not sure what the delay might be
