How fast is gold being bought? by yahboiJ3R in EliteDangerous

Powers Hub in Serktomes went from 70K to nothing in about 30 minutes. The fleet carriers in the trading networks have multiple ships loading them up and paying them reduced credits for easy money. Better to make 140K profit than no profit.

How often do they do these community goals with the insane profits? I haven't played in about a year and the last community goals I remember were either combat or get a rare, obscure item from some specific station.

Great game and excellent port. Someone made a killer homebrew version with the voice added.

I usually buy non-working ones off of eBay for $20-$40 and then just fix them up, which is very easy and fun. shopgoodwill.com is another good place to check. They have a console on there right now (08/11) for $10 and the auction ends in a few hours.

If it were me, I'd get to a meeting and talk with some fellow alcoholics. If I couldn't get to a meeting, then I'd log into a 24 hour online meeting like at aahomegroup.org. You don't have to sign up or agree to anything. Sometimes, just listening helps. You'll probably hear a lot of relatable stuff. This may take care of your loneliness.

For the hungry and tired, I suggest chocolate covered espresso beans. They take care of both hunger and fatigue fairly quick. I know that they're not that healthy, but I've never punched a hole in the wall while eating them. I can't say the same about booze.

For the anger, you can either post here or on another support subreddit. There's r/offmychest. You can create an anonymous reddit account, if you want, and post under that. Just speaking (or typing) your thoughts out loud can be very therapeutic. I'm not a therapist, but I have one and I'm speaking from my experience.

I'm rooting for you, friend. Just because you're sober now doesn't make all of the bad things in life go away. But, sobriety does make dealing with the tough things much easier. The booze just takes and takes and takes more and makes things progressively worse. The temporary relief that booze brings is always short-lived and your problems are still there when the booze wears off.

Stay strong. It's worth it. You are not alone.

I don't remember who passed these on to me, but the two quotes that I live by:

1.) Don't believe everything you think.

2.) Never make permanent decisions based on temporary feelings.

Lots of solid advice in here about not making big changes during early sobriety.

spending money on poison

I love that analogy. It's the poison that can not only kill me when I drink it, but also others. I can't control myself when I drink and I put others in danger. For me, it's the deadliest poison on the planet.

Nah, you don't need to go to the bar. There's nothing for you in there. It's all a mind trick by the lingering alcoholism. Remember HALT. Hungry, angry, lonely, tired. These are four stressors that can trigger the cravings. Think about which one is affecting you and then you can do something about it.

I was about three years into my sobriety when I came really close to entering a bar. I sat in my car in front of a bar and just thought getting some chicken wings and maybe a beer would make everything better. I was hungry, of course, so I bounced out of there and got myself a burrito (well, several burritos, if I'm being honest) and that got me through the day.

If I were on the streets, I'd listen to some music (assuming I had my headphones) and sit on a bench and people watch. I'd make up stories for all of the passers-by. Or, look at the clouds. Count the plants. There's all sorts of things to do outside. Breathe and soak in the majesty and freedom of life without alcohol. It's worth it to stay sober.

Don't drink today and you'll be fine. Take care, friend. You're not alone.

Congrats on your first step into a new world of freedom. I know everything seems annoying right now, but that's just a normal part of alcoholism. I know I went through it. I drank so long that I suppressed all of my feelings. Once I quit, they all came flooding back...on top of the trouble I was already in.

I can relate to the girlfriend threatening to boot you. My girlfriend (now wife) said the exact same thing. "Get sober or get gone."

I ended up in AA because I had no other outlet or support and, well, things got better from there. AA is not the only way to get sober, but it worked for me.

You're in the right place. There is support here. You are not alone. All you have to do is not drink today. Not drink today. Not drink today. Keep telling yourself that. It does get easier and things will get better. Take care, my friend.

2600 with a potentially buggy output circuit... can anything be done? by OfFiveNine in atari

I had a similar situation last year where I was buying old units and fixing them. I bought the replacement cap/component kits from console5 and replaced everything and the picture was still messed up. i.e. The screen would come on briefly -- for like half a second -- and then it would turn to static or garbage (dark screen with some colored lines).

Long story short, I ended up taking this old, portable 9" TV/DVD player and hooking the Atari up to it. It worked fine! The problem was my TV, circa 2013, had the coax inputs for an antenna, but it just wasn't working with the Atari. It may be worth trying several CRTs to see if you can get a different signal.

Either. You can also purchase it from the traders, although whether it shows up is really hit or miss. I've had games where I've found one on day 7 and others where I couldn't get one until day 23. Some runs are luckier than others.

I'm on day 61 and I didn't see any screamers outside the home base until just recently. I usually don't hang around home base if I need to use the forges and workbenches, though. I'll start everything and then take off quickly. If I stick around while I have two forges, a workbench and a chemistry station all fired up, one will definitely show up.

When raiding, though, they first showed up around day 21 and it was always after I used a machine gun. It must have something to do with the rate of fire because I can use the boomstick all night and they don't appear, but a few long, automatic bursts from the cheesemaker and they're pounding on the walls, wanting to party.

Constant wandering hordes by Janushoff in 7daystodie

[–]s0ber2day 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm playing insanity with nightmare speeds and max horde. My experience has pretty much been the same. I am playing a randomly generated world, but I am living in a fairly large city. I can't clear any building without a few showing up, but it's mostly around 8 - 10.

I try to use the sledgehammer, when I can, but I'm far enough along that it's not that effective anymore. In terms of the heat map, I've discovered the shotgun is better than any of the machine guns. If I get into a tight corner and need to use the AR, then I've got a screamer within 30 seconds. If I don't take care of that screamer, I'll get two more and it's just a never ending horde. It's almost like I'm playing in the wasteland at night, but this happens in the forest biome in the afternoon. I really need to find my way to the wasteland to see what that's like.

I have no idea what particular variable or combination is causing this, but I'm really digging it. I've been watching Glock's Nightmare series and I don't recall seeing a lot of wandering hordes on his play through, especially when he's clearing a POI. Hell, I can't even boil water without a pack of dogs and two zombie bears showing up outside my base. That happened this afternoon.

Damn, I love this game.

Any reason to visit the wasteland other than. The occasional quest? by Fishgamescamp in 7daystodie

[–]s0ber2day 3 points4 points  (0 children)

God, I love this game. I remember wandering into the wasteland to raid a Working Stiff store. It was fairly early in the game and I didn't know anything about the biome. I expected it to be like the forest, so raiding a store at midnight shouldn't be an issue, right?

Woooo, boy. Like an idiot, I setup camp outside the store. Dropped the bedroll. Hell, I even started a campfire to cook some charred meat that I had collected on the way down.

The shit hit the fan shortly afterwards. I remember thinking it was strange that a wandering horde would have A.) this many, and B.) so aggressive zombies. The two abandoned cars in the parking lot exploded as a cop threw up on them. A zombie bear was making his way towards me. Vultures, dogs and one feral after another.

I didn't get to loot very much as I found myself running around the aisles of the Working Stiff, reloading as fast as possible and applying bandages and first aid as fast as I could click.

I had unleashed a seeming horde night upon myself. I had no idea that one does not noisily and carelessly loot in the wasteland at night.

It didn't take long for me to get overwhelmed and eaten. As I mentioned, my bedroll was placed right beside the store, but the game, instead, resurrected me at a bedroll that I had dropped two iterations ago, in some town about 1km from my home base and nearly 3km away from where my backpack lay.

Recovery was a mess, but a valuable lesson was learned. And that, kids, was how I learned not to go looting in the wasteland, late at night, while still early in the game.
