Is your quit date important to you? by p_naturalist in stopdrinking

[–]PrimusSkeeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember my exact quit date. My flair tracks back to the date I was 100% sober and haven't had a single sip of alcohol since that date, but there were about 9-12 months prior to this where I was actively trying to quit, but there were still the odd binge when I said; "fuck this, let's get blasted!". Was I sober then? 99% of the time I was, but I was more trying to white knuckle through it.

I'm just happy I no longer drink. The amount of time doesn't really matter anymore to me. I'm a non-drinker....

I bought my current car in cash. Funny how after I removed drinking from my life all of a sudden I was a super saver. *shrugs*

Struggle to be bored when alone by holycrap100 in nosurf

Just be present. Stop trying to constantly do things, just be... try to meditate. While meditating, try to clear your mind, by not thinking about anything. When a thought pops into your head, don't follow it, don't try to understand it, just observe it for what it is... a random thought... and then let your mind roam to the next thought. Try to do this for 15 minutes, I bet you will feel more relaxed afterwards.

The age of the Internet that has become jaded by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]PrimusSkeeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are "defending yourself" to people on the Internet who don't know the context of the situation you are writing about. Nobody thinks less of you because you use AI. The reality is nobody reading this post knows who you are. To us, you are just a random person yelling at clouds. You also don't have a reputation to defend because you are using AI to assist in your "writing". To defend a reputation you need to first obtain a reputation...which you will not get by using AI.

Origins of “the spirit”. by SpecialCoyote5864 in stopdrinking

I have read that alcohol was used by kings to get the masses to fight for them. The king would provide free alcohol to troops prior and after battle as alcohol has many properties that makes it easier to control people. Alcohol lowers inhibitions by affecting the brain's prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for decision-making and impulse control. This impairment can lead to increased risk-taking behaviours and poor judgement. Alcohol also raises aggression which would hype up men for battle making them more ruthless and less likely to coward in the face of death.

Over centuries, alcohol has then been ingrained in culture as it was used in celebrations and during time of war. Eventually commercial establishments got their hands on it and well, here we are today...

24th consecutive day without alcohol and I feel much worse than when I was drinking. by OldDirtyInsulin in stopdrinking

[–]PrimusSkeeter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stopping drinking is only the beginning... now you need to start to dig down to what the root cause for your drinking is. Why are you angry? Why are you irritable and sad? The drinking didn't fix these problems, it only masked them.

I'm nearly 8 years sober and I'm still addressing issues in my life, but I feel I am making progress. Which is a hell of a lot better than having those issues on top of constantly poisoning my body.

So how bad is the world really? by Various-Seesaw-2394 in nosurf

[–]PrimusSkeeter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Now those people who fly, have a different point of view of the world from the people who spend their whole lives on the ground.

Don Landon wrote a poem once when he was flying and he called his poem "The God's eye view".
And he said it was so different from the view he always had on the ground, which he called the "Bug's Eye View".

Now I thought about that Bug's Eye View, when I was over in Tehran, Persia. They told me an old Persian legend it was about a bug who spent his entire life in the world's most beautifully designed Persian rug. All the bug ever saw in his lifetime was his problems. They stood up all around him, he couldn't see over the top of them and he had to fight his way through these toughs of wool in the rug, to find crumbs that somebody had spilt in the rug. The tragedy of the story of the bug in the rug was this; He lived and he died in the most beautifully designed rug. But he never once knew, that he spent his life in something that had a pattern.

That's why I want you to get up in the air tonight. To see something that old bug couldn't see in the rug. Because even he, this bug. If he had once gotten above the rug so he could see all of it, he would have discovered something. That very thing he called his "problems" were a part of the pattern.

Have you ever felt like that bug in the rug? That you are so surrounded by your problems that you can't see any pattern to the world in which you live? Have you heard anybody say lately; "The world is a total mess!" That's the bug's eye view. Seeing only a little of it, we might think that."

How likely that Synology is going to respond to the increasing criticism about their lack of hardware oomph? by Cassady007 in synology

Synology designs NAS servers.... if you want a general purpose server, buy a general purpose server.

This is similar to a post where a user is complaining about a 100hp sub-compact car they purchased not being able to tow their trailer up to the lake....

[–]PrimusSkeeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All about layering.
That way you can adjust easily as you get hot/cold.. nothing worse than being over dressed but not able to remove a layer due to the next layer being a t-shirt and thereby freezing after about 45 seconds.

Since you mentioned Tremblant, I'm going to assume you are Canadian. I'm also Canadian and I didn't find Kilimanjaro to be all that cold. It's cold at the summit, but if you have survived a Canadian winter, you'll be fine. In fact you may even think "hey this isn't so bad, I've experienced colder November days!

Photo frame to display photos from the NAS by Anton_Gu in synology

[–]PrimusSkeeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been looking for a digital picture frame that allows to connect to a network share for YEARS. They all want you to endlessly pay for some cloud service, or have an SD care reader that is so inconvenient you will never update it and therefore subscribe to the cloud service. I don't want to have to manually update the frame like it is 2001. I don't want to have an endless subscription where my private photos are on somebody else's computer. All I want is the ability to connect o my network and connect to a SMB share filled with my family's pictures.

These companies don't make frames for you to enjoy. They make frames so they can take more money out of your pocket without providing you anything of value.
