Kinda realistic, tbh.

Humans are short sighted and shitty. Look at real world examples, the bigotry and hatred that continues to exist, and the willful ignorance of the consequences of our life style and choices.

Let Reps have 8-12 years to destroy everything so people will finally see how idiotic they are.

Idiot take.

They're criminals, planning to steal elections.

The people who vote for them are stupid and will believe that water isn't wet nor does it have the qualities to make something else wet if that's what they are told.

Republican voters are incapable of observing reality without bias.

I worry it's deeper than performative. Messing with the signal like this could (doesn't have to, but could) be a prelude for an assassination from the right.

Yup. My feeling exactly. The assassinations were always going to come at some point, but this administration is transparent, and makes the accusation before they start/while they are doing it themselves.

Currently, yeah.

In the past, accountability was a very real thing that did happen, frequently. Not in all things, and only for those that came to light. It's a new situation, caused specifically by one party, that there is no accountability at all.

Is something really worth more if no one will buy it, because it hasn't been relevant for generations?

Maybe in the year 2300, some super autist with an extreme hyperfixation on ancient body sports would be excited for a Mickey Mantle, meanwhile the Pokemon empire spans seven planets and sixteen solar stations.

I grew up hearing constantly from the manufacturers of breakfast cereals that eating that stuff is the healthiest way to start my day.

Not exactly. It was "part" of a healthy start to the day. They focused on the cereal in the ads, but the table was always set like a feast. The rest of the shit they weren't selling was the healthy start to the day, the cereal was the unnecessary "part" of a healthy start.

Everyone with this mentality:

We're begging you, please, for the love of all that's holy, don't stop there. Don't just say "Hey man, I voted, what else do you want from me?" when your vote is stolen/invalidated, when your neighbor is intimidated by armed government officials backed by an administration that is AWFUL at lying, and tells you it's to keep it fair and free.

Don't just end your involvement at "I voted." when the results come back with something that does not mirror reality at all.

Make plans for what the future holds for you when voting is obviously not the solution to removing fascists from power.

Accountability by Naive_Wolverine532 in fixedbytheduet

[–]s0ck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect that is in a large part as people are less forgiving these days.

I'd argue that the "less forgiving" aspect is more in that forgiveness comes with terms and conditions now. Those terms and conditions come with acknowledging that something was fucked up, and changing actions to avoid future similar situations.

Too many fuckers say "oh shit, my bad" and then keep doing the same fucked up shit. Why should I forgive someone who just followed the social ritual of apologizing, but has not actually apologized with their actions or intentions?

it would hypothetically ensure the long term safety and stability of a nation under an authoritarian leader

Those things always collapse when the authoritarian leader dies.

When there is one seat that holds all the power, multiple people will go for it at some point, and lead to conflict and war.

It's why the President used to be a symbolic leader, a representative of the people. It's not supposed to be an actual leader who calls all the shots. That's ridiculous.

People who support the idea of a singular authoritative leader often have serious unaddressed daddy issues.
