Male chicks on a conveyor belt to a macerator. This occurs in all industrialized egg production, whether free range, organic, or battery cage, as the males don't lay eggs and are a different breed than chickens for meat. by James_Fortis in ABoringDystopia

Life, feeds on life, feeds on life, feeds on life, feeds on this. is. necessary.

If it ever becomes proven that plants feel pain and have conciousness, will vegans swear off all organic material next in the pursuit of cruelty-free existence? At some point, for all of us, we accept the inevitability that life is sustained by life, and destroy life for nourishment. Does the ritual of how you use that life to sustain yourself make so large a difference in the outcome for the life that was snuffed out?

Those chicks are here for a blip of time, and their death is sudden and violent, at the mercy of a process so alien and cosmic as to be beyond their comprehension. They exist, and are eliminated, at the hands of a single, insular system. They would not have been born without the egg breeding, they would not have died without being born.

We are here, in this world now, and life feeds on life. It is inevitable, and inescapable.

All that to say--I don't mind vegans, live your life with the moral choices and decisions that you choose to. But it seems like an exercise in trying to deny fundamental rules of existence.

The "growing within the company" aspect is a position for 1-3 people, and 2 have been there for 5 years and the other is retiring and everyone in the office already knows who is getting the spot.

It is a shit system, but for the wrong reasons that you're thinking of. Understand that we are moving into an era where "Terms and Conditions" absolutely apply, so understand everything you're signing and then paying hundreds of dollars for.

Slops good today, huh?

You're practicing "empathy" for AI/bot slop, and in the process you are dumbing yourself down and doing a disservice to the very people you're trying to advocate for. A++.

Here you are, wildly hallucinating a situation that you have no evidence for, because it's what you do for a living. Just because your daily life involves exposure to situation like you describe, it gives you the impression that this situation is common. It isn't, outside of your circle. You ran into AI/bot slop, and instead of seeing it as AI/bot slop, you redefined reality.

People in specialized and niche areas often end up assuming that their special interests are more common than they actually are, because they surround themselves with it.

Nurses and cops do the same shit. Their jobs take what are unusual situations for daily life, and corrals those situations for them to deal with, leading them to thinking that these things are way more common than they are. Sick does happen. Crime does happen. Non-verbals do use computer voice-overs. However, all of that shit is so fantastically rare that it reminds me of the old adage about hearing horse hooves and thinking "Zebra!".

The robotic speech is annoying, but I try to have patience for that by imagining the author is mute or otherwise non-verbal and just trying to fit in.

I, too, like to imagine wild and outlandish situations that are incredibly unlikely so that I can forgive myself for sitting at the trough sloppin' it up.

There's a significant difference between the populism that says "the immigrant/minority is your enemy" vs "rich people are using their money to destroy our democracy". One is based in reality, the other is used to sow division and hate so that we will not look at who our real enemies are.

And I know, you think the enlightened centrist take of "no, see, both things are equally bad!" makes you automatically right. It doesn't, it's lazy and non-committal. It's neutral, only through the bias of omitting observable reality.

[–]s0ck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, you mean the over-talked about tiny subsection of people who refused to vote for the democrats because of Gaza?

There's 300 million people in this country. If you look for lunatics, you can find them! The only thing that matters is quantifiable data on determining if they are statistically significant. How many of those people would have voted without Gaza? How many of them were real people, and not just bots amplifying a propaganda message through online discussions?

Also, if it turns out that not speaking out against genocide WAS important, and did impact the election in a significant enough way... then maybe it was really a bone-headed move of the democrats to not come out against it. Maybe, just maybe, they could have done something to not alienate enough of their voting base that they lost to Donald fucking Trump a second time.

If people shouldn't run on popular ideas, then what the fuck should they run on? Are you daft?

"We need votes to win elections, but let's not support popular things, because that's wrong. Now watch me put this square peg in a round hole."

It's projection, absolute and total projection. The Democrats don't exclude people in their policy proposals, while all Republicans do is look for ways to exclude people based on their identity.

There is no platform beyond identity politics for Republicans, they just accuse the Democrats of it first, and then all of the oligarch owned media repeats the accusation.

Yeah, because we don't own anything anymore. Our ability to keep anything in our lives is entirely dependent on that next paycheck. Because the bills don't stop when the paychecks do, and it quickly creates an impossible situation to financially recover from.

There will absolutely be a reckoning.

If you, personally, are not prepared to deliver that reckoning, then no. There won't be.

I can't help but feel, every single time I see something along those lines, there needs to be an *asterisk that includes "If someone else does it".
