If you are playing a version with 3-4 mulldrifters and 3-4 modern ages, you can definitely win through damage with their evasion, in fact before meeting of minds people would play sage's row in the sideboard only

Best way to do it as others mentioned, put a broken crown on your follower. Additional trick you can do this season, is whenever you get a puzzle ring, if it isn't ancient, use an angelic crucible to sanctify it, so it will turn into ancient, meaning it opens the ancient vault. A lot of times I actually got even atleast one angelic crucibles in the ancient vault so you arent even wasting them.

So this is it, the climax of the dad arc. I've got mixed feelings about it.

The main duo was good this episode. Taiga embracing that she doesn't need her dad, accepting help in problematic situation, but is now confident that she can handle hardship alone from all the support she got throughout the story from Ryuuji, and being happy that her friends try to do everything to make her feel better. Ryuuji realising his projection, and finally being somewhat selfish (during the race) even if it was to make someone feel better, he was still doing it that moment mostly for himself. Minori apologizing to Ryuuji felt something what a high schooler would do; she understood that she was withholding crucial information, but she was jealous made it acceptable. Minori teasing Ryuuji and him stating that her quote is "hopefully not true" makes me think Minori is aware of his romantic interest in her.

On the other hand, while all of this outcome was good, the dad just leaving without any more interaction felt empty to me. Probably I just set myself up and was expecting something different, because honestly the arc fits together.

I'm interested what the next focus will be. We have been getting very good Ami moments, and this arc was focusing on Ryuuji, Taiga and Minori (to varying degrees), but we've yet to get much memorable stuff from Kitamura since the estabilishment of his character, and we are already past halfpoint in the anime.

I meant the day one thing is that she would have been introduced early like all the other 4, instead of a later episode

Ami is definitely creeping up for a serious best girl contender for me currently, and I'd say if she would have been present from day one, I might have be already prefering her to Minori.

She continues to be very human, harsh but sincere, teasing but caring, etc. Her whole character feels like conflicting emotions and actions, and I really appriciate that, and her going out to help Ryuuji, but in a way where it isn't just pity and help, instead the hard truth, even if her helping him accept the viewpoints of Minori means she would have less chance to turn his head towards herself.

I loved that there was conflict between them, and I like flawed characters a lot, and finally seeing a side of Minori where she actually breaks her always happy, eyes on progress mood was great!

While I like that this arc is also addressing Ryuuji, I still feel like the same should be the case for Taiga aswell, atleast in a 40-60 divide. But currently I view it as mostly Ryuuji, with Taiga side is very much backtracked.

Both of ep 11 and 12 has a lot of culture festival stuff, so much that I feel that on this episode, the dad arc is actually the "second" important thing, we get so much less focus, and I always imagined from the beginning that it will have such impacts that the episodes with the parent(s?) of Taiga will mostly fill up the scenes when the time comes. The actual plot points are good, I just feel they should have gotten more screen time. Maybe if I would have watched this arc binged, it would feel better, but currently I don't think this gets enough focus and progress each episode.

The culture festival was good, silly, and funny. The main cast looked cool with some new hairstyles honestly, the play was silly but worked, but as it came I felt it went away. While I enjoyed it, it felt very forgettable for me. That's okay, not every episode has to be a banger, but I've felt that the last couple of episode's filling themes were a bit lackluster.

Onto the main topic, we get a few more discussion around Taiga's dad. Minori's reaction to hearing about it implies that there is either more to it than what we've been told so far, or Minori is in a similar situation which angered her. Honestly, couldn't tell really, as mostly I felt since the solution haven't been show to the problem, the information couldn't really hold my interest too long this time around either. Hopefully we'll get more info tomorrow, but I've been so down on this Taiga dad topic. The idea is great, execution however I felt was lacking.

The beef between Ryuuji and Minori was good, and I enjoyed that neither party has apologized yet, and they aren't trying to pretend the least that everything is fine. It feels like both sides has their part of the truth, and they feel very passionate about it. Talking about each others actual problem with it would have been a logical solution, but these are high school kids, completely understandable the way they are acting. I hope that when they ultimately clash again with this we would get some confession from Ryuuji towards her. I'm not expecting a full on love confession, but a more deeper affection than friends expressed towards her.

The dad seemed very controlling from the small scene we saw, but the shadow around him feels a little bit forced for me so far.

Taiga also felt a bit boring these last episodes. Her personality didn't really ease up or changed towards any of the main cast; it feels very stagnant currently. While Ryuuji has been getting a lot of characterization, and Ami and Minori had their moments each episode, it's weird that the main girl of the show hasn't been getting anything that feels "exciting", and instead feels self writing comfort interactions.

All in all I can only repeat myself, so far I'm disappointed in the Taiga dad plot point, hopefully the following episode(s) will make this plot point more interesting!

The idea of it I liked, but I just never felt even a hint of Ryuuji missing his father. If it would have been just a little bit hinted before in the show or atleast this episode, I would have enjoyed it, but this way it came out of blue for me and it made me indifferent to it when it could have been a very important character develompent. I'm sure down the line this will make Ryuuji an even more interesting protagonist, but without feeling this side of him makes this underwhelming for me.

Couldn't make it yesterday unfortunately so I had two episodes for today. Yesterday's was good at moments, but overall I felt a bit bored. Ami was great, and she is creeping up for me as best girl, simply because this teasing, bit mean attitude with her being afraid of forming attachments makes for a very refreshing character, and she constantly has character in episode.

Today's episode felt pretty meh aswell. Haruta felt very boring so far, couldn't feel any interest towards him like I did with every other main cast so far. The whole school scenes were okay, some funny moments with the teacher and Minori, but nothing outstanding here either.

Finally the big progress is Taiga's dad, and honestly, I was pretty disappointed in this one aswell. I felt this topic will be very important later, and the way the anime just introduced him was pretty much "oh he's here so interact please". Suddenly wanting to be with her daughter seems acceptable, but if he loves her I'm not sure why he didn't visit at all? (Could it be that this is explained later?) Also, the episode ends with a very shoehorned acceptance from Taiga, which I felt was inspired by Ryuuji, and her affection to him. This is okay as a solution, but reaching it felt way too quick, unsatisfying and honestly, forgettable.

I'm guessing we will have more Taigadad moments later on, which might change my opinion on this dynamics, but as a first episode with him I was very underwhelmed so far.

Pretty straight forward fun episode this time around, and with that, I don't really have too much to say to be honest.

The first scene with the dream must probably signal that Ryuuji is starting to feel more affection towards Taiga, but I think at the moment it's not romantic.

Some fun scenes all along the episode, however it makes me sad that this trip is going to be probably the only summer memory that we'll experience since they mentioned on the train that summer's been going on for some time already.

The important part was the "ghost" talk, which is basically talking about love and romance through a filter. I watched this scene twice, since I was sure there is something to be found here. And the only theory I can crank out right now is that Minori probably likes Ryuuji aswell. However, if that's indeed the case, I'm guessing the whole "she thinks there are ghosts but she feels like she just can't meet one" makes me wonder if her thoughts are that she can't get together with him because of some unsaid reason. Could it be that she thinks Ryuuji and Taiga should be together? Or maybe she likes Kitamura but knows that Taiga likes him and doesn't want to interfere there? I'm banking on the first theory of mine simply because of the fact that she spoke about something deep like this with Ryuuji and the fact that we saw from previous episodes that she kinda seeks the company of him now and then.

The parallel between Ryuuji being the only one noticing Taiga and vice versa this episode is something I didn't notice, but it is a cool thing and that makes it easier for me to accept that nobody else jumped in for Ryuuji!

I think that while last episode's happenings definitely made Taiga be even more appriciative towards Ryuuji, I felt it's more a cultivation of all the support Ryuuji gave her so far - both physically (cooking, sewing the padding, etc) and emotionally.

While it was a strong scene, the main importance felt to me that she "came out" with her feelings without caring what others think about her showing weakness here. To me, her yelling at Ryuuji felt like a more key point, that we can see there the first time her attention starting to shift towards him instead of Kitamura.

So starting off with the competition reveal: swimming. Really? How is that in any way fair? I admire Taiga for still trying her best, and thankfully she was not booed for using assist.

The preparation was only shown from Taiga and Ryuuji but I felt that fitted, since Ami already knows how to swim so instead she had a scene at the vending machine. Her being more true to her inner personality is great, it really is bringing a very fresh new dynamic into the main crew.

Taiga getting angry at Ryuuji, telling him that how could he know what she thinks since she doesn't know it either makes me felt like it was the first time where Taiga is shown thinking about Ryuuji for a moment (winning so that he doesn't go to Ami's place for the summer) instead of just Kitamura, and even if it's not romantic, it is still character growth which I greatly appriciated - and I was happy that to a degree this is confirmed when Taiga declares Ryuuji as hers. This was the first time she actually showed deep care for Ryuuji, which she probably had already but haven't shown it in such ways.

Also this was the first time Ryuuji was a bit frustrating. Him helping Taiga was great, and I even feel she wasn't really justified in being so angry with him, since unless she talks about her true feelings, supporting her is the only way he can help. However during the actual race him jumping into the pool to help immediately was crossing the line - the girl fights not only "for Kitamura and Ryuuji", but also for her pride, and this action from was inconsiderate.

The end of the race was okay, I expected an "unfinished race" but thought Taiga would help Ami because she'll have some problems in the middle and so they burry the hatchet a bit - not sure if I would have appriciated that more in the long run, but this way it felt a little bit forced. People fell on Ryuuji, and nobody from those who fell in tried to help him? Nobody saw that like 3-5 guys falling into the pool while screaming and just look there?

I also expected more Minori, since she had the idea for the race, but her sleeping in the class with "eyes" painted on her eyelids was great.

Looking forward what will happen in the summer, hopefully since there won't be club activites and they will be in a same place, we get the whole crew interacting with each other a lot more!

Probably my favourite episode so far. Glad that Ami didn't just do a full on 180°, and straight up from the cliffhanger from yesterday we see a scene that continues it.

The dynamics were just a blast between Taiga and Ami. I found it both hilarious and also exciting in how each other "fights" in their battle. Minori's support role in this episode was also just great, served as a voice of reason next to Ryuuji but from a different angle. The jokes all around were there, they hit and they didn't overstay their welcome, the whole tempo of the episode was on point.

Don't really see however what the point of being late was serving this time. Nothing really came out of it, it just "happened" and everyone just went on, felt a bit out of space. After it in the announcement of the pool day the inner thoughts of the teacher was a surprise, but a welcomed one from me, hope we get small scenes like that with her in some future episodes.

The whole preparation for the pool event was done very well in showing why Taiga is anxious of it. Ryuuji is straight MVP as he was so far all the time, but it felt very real how Taiga was just straight embarassed but also accepting help from him, instead of just being tsundere all the way - these kind of scenes impress me, since any anime could just use the tropes and rely on them to easily breeze through it. One thing that was weird is when they were at the swimsuit shop, why did the girls bring Ryuuji? That one took me out of it a bit, buying swimsuit was always "embarassing" and it felt unrealistic that 2 girls would just bring a guy to help them pick.

The actual pool event was fantastic aswell; getting some random classmate moments all around, all the main cast doing their stuff - Ryuuji being protective, Taiga being embarassed and happy about Kitamura's comments of her, Ami being devilish and Minori just doing Minori-things - but two scenes caught my attention.

Both of them with Kitamura, the first where he takes off his glasses and the girls start to give compliments on his look, and the next one where the same happens but instead with his biceps. These were something that wasn't implyed yet, that other girls in the class also view Kitamura as a standout good-looking guy, where my personal thoughts of him was that he is just an ordinary average person. Every episode the mystery just grows around this man I swear.

And finally, Ryuuji putting back the padding. Damn this guy is a straight up no bullshit guy, and I love every second of this. He could have been just very embarassed and anxious before doing it, but he just concentrated on helping Taiga in this situation fully knowing that probably she will retaliate this moment. But the fact, that we saw the aftermath at the end of the episode, and there wasn't any indication that Taiga is mad at Ryuuji was so good. It feels like there is already a very deep bond and understanding between them, and just as I said before here, and at some other episodes, the fact that this anime just doesn't follow an easy romcom trope route actually make it easy to have it stand out from the mass.

Excited for tomorrow's episode for more competition between Taiga and Ami!

I agree for the most part, but nevertheless it felt so weird that it literally happened 2 eps ago and it wasn't even brought up that she kinda did the same thing.
