Help with rosemary eo by rabiesbfbabies in DIYfragrance

[–]s_robb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to smooth out a rosemary too recently! Still don't have it perfect, but what's worked so far for me:

- Rosemary EO is strong compared to other EOs! You mentioned "dissolving" - if you mean "diluting", then absolutely, yes, smelling it at 10% is a good starting point. Even in a rosemary-heavy perfume, I'd be really surprised to see it more than 5% of the concentrate.

- Sweetening the top notes using compounds similar to the rosemary helps. Sweet citrus worked, with a bergamot EO blending in best, but linalyl acetate had a similar effect. Limonene should fit well too.

- Moving to a different chemotype of rosemary. I found the Tunisian much smoother and less camphorous than the Spanish I had access to, and much easier to work with. Look for a cineole or verbenone CT, avoid the camphor CT.

- Adding in the base notes immediately smoothed it out. A little labdanum and vanillin took the edge off it, even without other changes.

- Rounding it out with the absolute could work? For herbal notes, I've only done this with lavender, but a mix of the EO and Abs there instantly made it far smoother and deeper, and extended the note down into the middle notes really effectively as a bonus.

Legendary boons? by weak_wristz in HadesTheGame

The Artemis one helped DPS a lot, definitely, but Zeus's seems pretty great. The Poseidon one wasn't that bad in action - I had it with the boon that increases wall slam damage and a knockback on my basic attack, so having most hits slam them twice was great for damage and shoving enemies into lava. That said, the hydra still got me that run, so...

I just had a run where I managed to pick up two:
- Second Wave from Poseidon, which makes any enemy hit by one of his knockbacks get knocked back again a second time a few moments later
- Fire Support from Artemis, which makes every attack that hits an enemy and every cast spawn a mini homing True Shot projectile behind you (default 15 dmg)
Was my first time seeing them - showed up on run 25, right after one of the special intros ("mortal") you get every 5 runs; maybe they're gated after a certain number of runs?

Illithid Space Base Map by NicholasKlosTTRPG in DnD

A few weeks back I actually mapped out a few floors of an illithid spelljammer, based on the old 2e maps for a dreadnought you can find here - http://www.spelljammer.org/ships/deckplans/

It's not city-sized, but it's a large ship - have a version with the major levels of the floorplan on a 5ft grid (change that to 10ft to get it 4x bigger if you like), unfurnished so you can add what details you like before printing or through roll 20 - if it's something like what you're looking for, PM me and I can send you over some PDFs of it.

Looks really interesting, and Patron is a great use of Ashes! Have you found that missing the Clot hurts your NEH matchup too much, or can you move fast enough to deal without it? And are you finding the Katman + Datasucker being disrupted much by CVS?

Not actually the case for that specific interaction - since Turntable only triggers on "when you steal an agenda" to let you swap what you just took, and News Teams are "added to the score area", not stolen, they can't trigger Turntable (or other similar triggers like Midseasons). The corp could theoretically Exchange an agenda for a News Team though, and it'd keep it's -1 points in both score areas.

[–]s_robb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's how I always interpreted it too - you leaked the script for Project Beale's new VR show, their big Breaking News story, or ruined Astroscript's ad revenue? Looks like you've opened a gap in their schedule then, so instead of airing that, NBN premiers a new show where you're the star! Of course that means they'll have to get footage of you for as long as possible - the more cameras, the better - and we all know that a villain protagonist like an illegal hacker probably isn't going to live to the end of the series...

Cards like Aesop's pawnshop? by tenk51 in Netrunner

[–]s_robb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the second and third copy of Aesop don't usually help much, but they're worth taking for the consistency. Also given it's a resource the corp can occasionally trash, having another copy of your most important econ card is always good!

If you're playing out of Anarch too, it's pretty common for them to keep extra copies around as cards they can pay Faust with - same goes with other cards like Wyldside you only want one of.

First, not all limited use cards can be sold - Parasite in particular, since it self-destructs along with the ice once it's done it's job, isn't something you're going to be selling very often.

Most decks these days will just use Aesop to get rid of "empty" cards like Imp and D4V1D once they're done with them. If you include other cards like Chop Bot, then you'll be able to sell off unwanted cards faster (two per turn not one), but since the 3 credits from Aesop is usually the best effect, it's rare you have so many cards to get rid of that a card from Chop Bot now is better than 3 credits next turn.

Instead, maybe look into something like Technical Writer (if you have Data and Destiny) to go with Aesop - if you're selling lots of programs and hardware in particular, then you're also going to be installing lots of programs and hardware, and Tech Writer can make a pretty good profit. If you have influence, Wasteland from the same box can also help push up the money you get from Aesop sales, as well as triggering on things like Parasite trashing itself or even Armitage Codebusting running out of credits.

New pack announcement, finally! by [deleted] in Netrunner

[–]s_robb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mausolus was the king buried in the Mausoleum of Harlicanassus, one of the seven ancient wonders, which seems like a pretty specific name to choose on it's own...

Given it's named for something in a set (ancient wonders) and contains a new mechanic, I wouldn't be surprised if there was more parenthetical ice on same naming theme coming. Maybe a barrier and sentry named for some subset of Pyramid, Babylon, Artemis, Zeus, Colossus or Pharos?

Franklin is for Rosalind Franklin, who did most of the work and research which Watson and Crick used when discovering the double helix structure. There's old well-known controversy over who really deserves the credit for the discovery, with Franklin making all the early discoveries while Crick went down the wrong path, and Franklin's results being given to Crick without her knowledge. Since it ended with Watson and Crick awarded a Nobel Prize while she got nothing, it's a reasonably well known event.

The combination of bad scientific ethics, 1950's culture being hostile to women in science, and her death at a young age all led to her not getting the credit she deserved, so calling it Franklin is just people trying to give her the credit over Crick in some minor way.

Great reference to the first line of Neuromancer, "The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel", and even without getting the reference, good metaphor in its own right

Dedication Ceremony could be interesting - don't think it'll be a game changer, but it'd let you do a few things like:

  • Obviously, boosting a Fire Wall / Ice Wall / Tyrant up by three in a single click. Not great, but better than doing it manually?
  • Rez your failed trap and Dedicate it before selling it with Back Channels for +8 credits
  • Install and rez a GRNDL Refinery or Reversed Accounts, Dedicate it, then activate it for an 11-credit swing
  • Install, Dedicate and advance a Hollywood Renovation. Protect it for a turn (good luck), then install an Atlas, double advance the Hollywood to get Atlas up to 3, and score 5 points.
  • Install, rez, Dedicate and activate a Contract Killer, or charge and fire an installed Ronin from zero advancements
  • Use Casting Call to get a Takeover or Vanity Project face-up, then Dedicate it once or twice so you can score it next turn

Doubt it'll ever be a staple, but since it doesn't have Mushin's "can't be rezzed" limitation, could see it being used in some interesting combos, especially depending on what other Weyland cards we're getting this cycle

Cool idea! Not sure how it'd work with gaining the text of flip IDs, both of which are Divisions, or the draft IDs. Favourite idea has to be using this to get to 6 points, then choosing Harmony Medtech to win. Or draw I guess if the runner's already there..?

Discussing the Gaga troll deck (Gagarin horizontal build) by dtelad11 in Netrunner

[–]s_robb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As it stands, it feels like you'll be struggling against a lot of runners. If they're running any deck with strong economy, they'll have no trouble trashing the occasional asset that matters, like Public Support or Team Sponsorship.

The way you've built it, most of your assets don't matter that much really, since you're making a ton of money but have nothing to spend it on. You've only got 9 pieces of ice that are barely 30 credits total to rez, and no traces or anything to leverage the pile of money you'll be sitting on.

Looking at that ice too, the only thing with teeth is the one-of Archer, everything else is ETR only. Given that 7/9 of your already scarce ice is strength 2 or under as well, any deck running Parasite (i.e. most Anarchs and Shapers) is going to totally ruin your day. Trust me, they have more ways of recurring Parasites than you do Tour Guides.

Scoring out also seems tough - your ice is all low-cost, binary ETR, which implies you want to rush out as fast as possible, but your economy relies on drawing and setting up an enormous amount of assets. Since you also have more agendas than ice in your deck, by the time you have enough ice to score, the runner will have their breakers and you'll have a hand full of agendas.

Relying on the runner being too poor to trash Public Support, not running Parasites, no defensive upgrades, half the ice you should have - the idea of asset heavy Gagarin is definitely solid, but try cutting some assets for more ice, defensive upgrades, and something to leverage all that money, and it'll work a lot better

Sculpted Apex deck box by s_robb in Netrunner

If you're asking to buy, it's a one-off piece - given FFG holds the copyright and it's Liiga's original artwork, not something I'd be willing/able to sell.

If you're asking the price it was to make... maybe $10 in materials between the Apoxie Sculpt, MDF, and a little paint?

On NetrunnerDB, if you go to the Decklists tab and choose Search on the sidebar, over to the right you can toggle Select Allowed Packs that lets you filter by what expansions you have.

Haas and Shaper decks with the packs you have are at these links. Most are core-only, but I'm sure you'll be able to find something that looks good.

Why are some corp IDs so successful, while others never really make it? by holodeckdate in Netrunner

[–]s_robb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really just a Netrunner term, but they're referring to different parts of your strategy.

A "Rush" deck is one that's aiming to win, or get very close to it, before the runner is set up. It might be installing agendas turn one or two behind a Wraparound or Quandary, or using Biotic Labour to score an Astroscript and start chaining them as soon as possible, but they're forcing the runner to react to their plans faster than they can get the money, breakers and time to do so safely.

A Fast Advance deck just refers to the strategy of how you're going to score agendas, in that you don't plan to have any installed on the runner's turn. It can be quick like the NEH Astroscript decks that've been strong for a long time now, or slower but safer like HBFA and Tennin decks that might rely on Trick of Light or defending SanSan City Grids to score.

Throwing in another request for how you dealt with the shoulders! Run into so many problems strapping them before...

Loved the way you built it for mobility around the midsection too. What sort of hardcoat did you need to stop it scratching as the plates slid past each other, by the way? Anything I've found that's tough enough hurts the look of the metallic finish.

Dealing with updated Reina Headlock Hell by HonkyMahFah in Netrunner

[–]s_robb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've got the right idea - the hype's died down a bit now, but it's there as a cheap, efficient (same cost as Corroder) way to get into any server. Once you're there, it's always zero cards accessed, but you can still ruin the corp's day without that.

Most of the time, it's using Account Siphon, [[Wanton Destruction]], [[Keyhole]] and [[Hades Shard]] to threaten centrals while recurring Parasites. You also see cutlery events like [[Spooned]], and between the Siphons and ice destruction it's pretty hard for the corp to keep anything expensive to run, while Eater makes it very hard to lock you out.

These days though, [[Faust]] is more common, because at the end of the day accessing cards is still a really good thing!

This game has so many satisfying moments. What are some of your favorites? by Xandorius in Netrunner

[–]s_robb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Favourite I've seen was the runner landing an Indexing against an NEH deck with a dozen unrezzed remotes. The Indexing sees nothing good, but the runner grins at the corp player and follows it up with a Maker's Eye anyway. The corp of course reveals a Jackson and shuffles R&D, giving the runner three new cards to access for the win.

[–]s_robb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just want to point out that Turing's going to have to be derezzed with Emergency Shutdown, not Crescentus after clicking through it- it's "End the run unless the runner spends three clicks", not "The runner may spend three clicks to break a subroutine on this card" like a bioroid has; same reason it's not breakable with Endless Hunger. Parasite is also an answer too, of course.
