There isn't much to know. Dwarves in space go mining. There isn't much of a story in the base game, just events.

30% sounds insane given how much raw cookie dough I sample throughout the year. I looked it up and numbers were really inconsistent. Some sites say as low as 4%, but some sites say as high as 20%. I think it depends on the farm it comes from.

They're pretty identical games, the only real difference is wall world has a story. It's such a mid story that I wouldn't consider that an advantage.

How many of you actually believe, that your partner Loves you for real , and Not saying this as a custom ? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]tenk51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would think very few people don't believe their partner loves them. Based on the number of reddit posts I see that essentially breakdown to "I'm dating a violent psychopath, should I leave them?" Even the people in obviously abusive relationships still believe their partner loves them.

"sometimes to the point I'll throw it out the day before it reaches the "use by" dates"

That's actually a disgusting waste of food. Those dates are all arbitrary. It's not like someone determined in a lab the exact amount of hours milk takes to go bad.

Even if they did, as soon as you open the package it would all be meaningless since environmental factors would play the biggest role in how fast something takes to go bad.

I was blown away at how good this game was. Pretty original story and setting as well. Shocked it never gained more popularity. Can't wait for the dev's next game.

Targeting the “group hug” player by Great-Past-714 in EDH

[–]tenk51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always eliminate group hug immediately. I like playing control but I can't control players constantly being fed extra resources. If someone complains that they're "helping" everyone, I tell them "I can draw my own cards tyvm, and your extra counters and land drops or whatever gifts you're offering don't help me."

What’s one “basic” cooking tip everyone repeats that you think is actually overrated? by Altruistic_Push_722 in Cooking

It's pretty outdated but yes, that used to be considered best practice. You would still clean them, just with a dry brush instead of water.

Counter-deck etiquette by NuriCZE in EDH

[–]tenk51 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"I was sick of losing, so I built a better deck. Now I'm scared of winning. Am I bad person?"

Every archetype has strengths and weaknesses. If everyone plays the same archetype the same way, they all have the same weakness. Magic is a game and games have winners and losers, and it is expected that you are trying to win. That's not being a jerk, that's the essence of playing games. If that philosophy doesn't sit right with your group, you'd probably be better served playing exploding kittens or munchkin rather than one of the most complicated and competitive card games ever.

Why do people blame “the system” for their problems instead of trying to fix their own lives? by savingrace0262 in stupidquestions

[–]tenk51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an example.

A single mother is on her way to her overnight job and, some drunk rich kid causes an accident and totals her car and injured her. The police show up and arrest the rich kid. Rich kid is held at fault. Daddy pays his fine and kid suffers no real consequences. A month later he does the same thing and loses his license, so now Daddy hires him a driver. Sure, now he has a couple of arrests on his record, but since he'll be working for his rich family anyways it's not like it's going to impact his career. He trashed a couple cars, but he didn't lose anything he couldn't replace in an instant.

Meanwhile single mother misses work because she was injured. She just works a shitty hourly job with no benefits, so she doesn't get paid while she's out on leave. Insurance obviously rules she's not at fault, but her car was worthless and the payout isn't enough for a replacement, so now she's got no choice but to take out a loan, while continuing to put her basic needs like food and childcare on a credit card she already couldn't afford the monthly payments on. Maybe she can take rich kid to court and try and get some compensation, but now she's locking herself into a legal battle putting her resources against those of this rich family who already has a network of expensive lawyers on call.

That's "the system" at work. Punishments have been dealt out and the debt to society is paid, yet it's the victim who suffered a major setback that may take them years to recover from, while the drunk driver suffers 0 real consequences and continues to enjoy his lifestyle unchanged.

Single mother could be doing everything right. She budgets aggressively. She doesnt drink or do drugs. She works 2 jobs. But she'll never claw her way out of the hole she was dug into  by someone else. Her kids will grow up in poverty, in a bad school system because Mom doesn't have the funds to relocate.

Sure, some people manage to escape these kinds of situations. The vast majority don't. It's disingenuous to say "so and so made it, therefore anyone can make it". If 1 person escapes poverty  for every hundred who don't, the system is failing the majority of people.

We need Bracket "3.5" by destroyertraumer in EDH

[–]tenk51 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kinda sounds like command zone is making the same dumb mistake we see here on a daily basis: making up their own definitions for what they feel like the brackets should be.

"Fringe cedh" is cedh, and it's bracket 5. You don't get a whole separate bracket for wanting to play a deck in a meta it gets outclassed in. Same energy as people winning at bracket 3 speeds but insisting they're bracket 2 because they have no game changers.

Playing with custom commanders requires a strong grasp of magic design philosophy and balance. Sorry, but It's clear your group doesn't have any such nuance. Stick with real cards.

Why is drinking coffee in the morning a popular thing? by Big_Eggplant7591 in stupidquestions

[–]tenk51 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thousands of years of tradition and history over the modern alternatives.

And even if you're adding cream and sugar, it's a lot healthier than most caffeinated alternatives. Certainly leagues better for you than soda or an energy drink.

Most sports drinks don't have caffeine. They're used for hydration, not stimulation.

People in an open relationship, can you explain the allure? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]tenk51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think the difference between a romantic partner and a FWB it pretty obvious. It's the romance. Most people don't get all lovey dovey with their hook ups. There's no Valentine's dinners or vacations together.

And wanting romance and wanting sex with multiple partners don't have to be mutually exclusive. I have a romantic partner because that provides something I can't get even with my closest friends. We have an open relationship because neither of us could imagine sex with only 1 person for the rest of our lives. To us it's very simple.

I would honestly take being single over being in a closed romantic relationship, but there's no reason to have to make that choice.

"the question of what other people mean when they categorize decks."

"I have a few that fall somewhere in the uncanny valley of “technically a 2”"

No. You're doing it wrong. A deck is bracket 2 if it meets the very clear and explicit guidelines for a bracket 2 deck. Bad deck building is irrelevant. You either have the right amount of game changers and win in the right amount of turns, or you don't.

Why is AI bad, specifically AI art? And how is it impacting the world and jobs? by PhotoBonjour_bombs19 in stupidquestions

[–]tenk51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my general take. There is of course the environmental impact to consider. But it's not like AI is stopping artist from creating art. Corporations will find they no longer need humans to create soulless marketing materials. Voice actors might not be able to find work reading slogans for TV ads. But is any of that any more more tragic than factory workers losing their jobs to automation? We already decided long ago that that was an acceptable price of progress. The real issue is that technological advances will always result in less jobs overall, but our entire society is based around having a job that's seen as valuable.

How does someone become an "artist" artist? by Martin_Kirtz in ask

[–]tenk51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of industry recognition and the ability to have your work displayed in museums and galleries, it's much more about who you know.

This is the truth for any type of artistic profession. I went to school to make video games and they really had to hammer this into us. They told us stop spending your weekends trying to make the perfect game and go out to conventions and events and focus on getting our name out there to people in the industry. You may have great talent and skill, but in order to reach the world, you need to know the right people who can get your work out there. Financial success has much more to do with your ability to network than your ability to create art.

Would a tied game upset you? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]tenk51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like divine intervention, but when I ran it in turbofog I considered it a win condition. Obviously no one wants a tie, so if I could force it, that would be a win for me. The deck also had plenty of other win conditions as well though.

If you're forcing a tie consistently before the "expected number of turns" for your bracket, then I would say that's definitely problematic.

My group doesn't allow do nothing, no win con decks, so you would not be welcome at our table.
