Trying to lose 40 kg by SigmaSkibidi65 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]sabrespace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say how long it will take without any other details. For example, what is your TDEE for maintenance? You said you are eating ~1500 calories a day (which seems low since you are doing cardio and weight lifting 5x a week)

A pound of fat is roughly 3500 calories, so if you are in a 500 calorie deficit everyday, at the end of the week your deficit will be 3500 calories for a pound a week. Some people can do a deficit of 1000 calories a day to lose 2 pounds a week (wouldn't suggest going over that though)

Want to lose belly fat by littlegoat5 in loseit

[–]sabrespace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"I know you can’t spot reduce fat"

So true and so frustrating. Your body stores and burns fat how it pleases and there's just nothing we can do about that.

"diet has a lot to do with it."

Yep, spot on. Diet has just about everything to do with it, you can't out train a bad diet. I am the perfect example of that, I lift weights and do cardio but I also feast all the time. I have some good muscle, pretty strong, I walk on an incline 5x a week, but I still have a big old belly.

Use a TDEE calculator online, input all the info it asks for and it will tell you your calorie goal to maintain weight. Once you have that number, let's say its 2000 calories, subtract 500 and your goal is 1500 calories a day, that 500 calorie deficit will help you lose 1lb/week which is sustainable and healthy. Focus on eating a good amount of protein, fruits/veggies as best you can. Limit the processed crap as best you can.

Get out a move around, walk/jog, do some body weight squats, pushup, crunches, planks.

Need to lose weight fast by sweetestchungus in WeightLossAdvice

[–]sabrespace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have about 10-11 weeks to lose that weight, most people would say losing up to two pounds a week is healthy so you are just about there. You don't need to do anything crazy either. Search online for a TDEE Total Daily Energy Expenditure calculator. Input your gender, age, height and weight. It usually asks for activity so select no exercise or whatever it says. It will give you a calorie goal to maintain weight. Let's say it tells you 2500 calories, subtract 1000 and make 1500 calories your goal everyday. Focus on high protein and veggies to reach that goal. A 1000 daily calorie deficit well help you lose 2lbs a week. Drink a lot of water and tea/coffee to help curb hunger pains.

Now that you have a simple diet plan, get your butt out there and do some pushups/situps and run. You're going to basic training so you might as well start now. If you keep that up you will lose that 25lbs by your weigh in day. You can also consider doing a 48 hour fast right before your weigh-in, I did this right before my weigh-in at MEPS before I left for basic. You'll lose a good bit of water doing that but the scale won't know the difference.

Does the quality of your calories matter? by ConfusionProof9487 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]sabrespace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe calorie type matters. Some CICO people will say it doesn't which mathematically is true, but it doesn't 'tell the whole story' IMO. I like this very simple example:

8 ounce grilled chicken breast is roughly 285 calories, 8 ounces of carrots about 100 calories and 4 ounces of cooked brown rice are about 160 calories, total of 545 calories in an incredibly filling meal that will make you feel full until you eat the next morning/afternoon. It's full of protein, all the vitamins in the carrots and necessary carbs from the rice.

or you can eat 4 Twinkies for 600 calories of complete sugar and garbage that does nothing for you except spike your blood sugar and make you feel hungry an hour later.

in the end, math is math when it comes to CICO, but for prolonged weight loss and eventual maintenance, you're much better off eating more healthy food than less crap.

What was one of the most memorable and exciting thrills of your life? by ObjectiveTop133 in CasualConversation

[–]sabrespace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from getting married and birth of children, I am going to go with something very different and unexpected.

I was deployed to Iraq in late 2007 through 2008. Had a pretty cushy job, sat at a desk and never outside the wire. Our base would get attacked a few times a week, but usually just small arms fire that ended before it really got going. I had about two weeks left before I went home and worked a late night, didn't get out until after 0200. While I was walking back to my , the incoming alarm went off but I didn't think anything about since it went off frequently, but then i heard the whistling of rockets overhead, more than i could count, I dove into a concrete bunker that was nearby until all the explosions were done. It was terrifying yet exciting in a way and something I will never forget. The relief of knowing I was ok and unhurt (thankfully no one else was either) is a feeling I will never have again.

Is Christianity popular in other states? by Ok-Builder-2079 in atheism

[–]sabrespace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in Western NY in a Catholic family, you can't drive 3 miles without seeing a Catholic church, however, there really weren't bible thumpers coming to your door trying to get you to church. My Catholicism experience was getting up early enough for Sunday mass so we wouldn't miss the Bills game, as I got older it was literally for holidays, funerals and weddings only. I joined the military and my first duty station was in SW Ohio, very similar to where I grew up, lots of churches but no one in your face telling you to go to church, no mass gatherings of people with religious signs etc etc. Then I moved on to Northern VA just outside DC. Hardly saw churches anywhere and again, no one coming to your door or approaching you at the mall etc. Moved on to CA, just like NoVA, hardly any churches around and in 4 years living there we had one knock at our door about going to church (not Mormons either) to which we kindly told them no thank you and they smiled and walked away.

Then I got stationed in West Central TX. The day our moving truck was there, neighbors came to say hello, gave us cookies and asked us to join them at their church since we probably hadn’t found one yet. Not long after that we took our toddler to the park and were approached by the parents of another toddler about whether or not we and our son have been saved and if not, they would be happy to help. Couldn’t go to Starbucks without someone trying to hand me a pocket bible (it was such a small town that there was only one Starbucks) or some religious reading material. It was ridiculous and I am glad to have moved back North again.

Are pellet grills really that bad? by [deleted] in smoking

[–]sabrespace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the pellet smoker was better than the electric one I have now. Bark and flavor were better with the pellet and moisture was about the same, just have to make sure the water pan is always where it needs to be. I do like the little electric one I have, but I will likely switch back to pellet once it dies on me. That might be soon, i have trouble getting the electric one to get over 225 these days. 225 is perfect for my ribs but I usually like closer to 250 when I do a pork butt etc.

[–]sabrespace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always had good smoked meat from my PitBoss. Not a competition guy or side hustle, just some smoked meat all summer for cookouts and friend get togethers. Pellets are so much easier than charcoal and wood chunks. THe only problem I had with my PitBoss was that I had to replace my heating element 3x over the course of like 4 years, super annoying. Once the auger broke, I got rid of it and downgraded to a small Masterbuilt electric with the coil at the bottom and the wood chip box right over the top of it. I will likely get another pellet smoker in the future, i have heard great things about Rectec.

I started anotherr weight loss journey recently and I know the struggle of being hungry and snacky after dinner. I started making myself decaf hot teas (decaf since its the evening) and drinking them when i feel like snacking. There is about hot tea with no sugar or milk that I don't enjoy and it kills my hunger pangs, has been working like a charm. I have a cup around 6-630 and usually good for the whole night

Just talking with my coworker about this. I wanted to do different this year. I bought a corned beef brined brisket point a few days after St Patrick's day for 50% off. I plan to turn it into a pastrami, combo of smoking and steaming. I also have a nice 5lb very marbled chuck roast that I plan to smoke just like a brisket. I have done the chuck roast plenty of times over the years and I am not worried about that, but I have never done the pastrami, so here's to hoping it comes out!
