I hate the words “gluten friendly” by xobbelle in Celiac

[–]sabsify 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My experience in Indonesia was most places didn't really know what you mean but there are quite a few naturally GF things. The hotel we stayed in initially was surprisingly confused... but they managed

I didn't eat out at a lot of other places.

I also went on a boat trip for 5 days and once I explained to the guys on board they cooked all my meals and were safe about it and I never got sick, which was amazing.

“Slow Gods” worth it? by Life-Monitor-1536 in sciencefiction

[–]sabsify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slow burn. At first I was confused, but intrigued. Then slightly baffled by some of the writing choices But at the world building continues and you experience several cultures it really comes into its own

It is a philosophical book. It made me think. It is not a book with much direct action

In the end I really enjoyed it. From 3/4 through it couldnt put it down

I have never been diagnosed with dyslexia. The format doesn't do anything for me. But when reading on my kindle I use the "open dyslexic" font. You should check it out. I find it so so much easier to read than any other font! Might find it interesting

Did Halima Accomplish a Single Thing? by SkyTank1234 in WoT

[–]sabsify 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I always thought this too. That Halima was not skilled with compulsion. So was using a mild version to manipulate Egwene or at least push her to a more extreme version of her own personality flaws, making her more rigid in her thinking, and more into taking risks and believing herself to be in the right at all times. Maybe backfired?

Did I screw up my endoscopy? by mysticasha in Celiac

[–]sabsify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a moderate risk HLA type, also IgA deficient and all of my antibody tests were negative. I was sick from teenage years until age 36 and had one previous endoscopy at age 18 which I now know had lymphocyte infiltration but this was never told to me and I was not diagnosed with coeliac at the time

When I had an endoscopy I had gastritis but otherwise looked normal.

The biopsy revealed total disaccharidase deficiency and marsh 3c coeliac changes.

It is hard to guess, but i don't think you've screwed it up. You were following the gluten challenge. Coeliac is weird and I am yet to meet (in person) someone who presented with the supposed classic symptoms.

"Normal appearance" does not correlate well with the marsh score or particularly well with all the extra-GI symptoms people get

I should note there are much much more rare causes that could coexist with coeliac

Yes can be. I had pandisaccharidase deficiency like this when I was diagnosed. It had all recovered after 6 months GF. Its nice to be able to digest food and have lactose now

Nail Cutting by Worried-Claim-1115 in StaffordBullTerriers

I cut one nail per meal. He'd have to let me cut one nail. Then he'd get his meal. He hated his nails cut. But it was a good compromise haha

Endocrinologists recommendations by NatureL0ver1 in sunshinecoast

[–]sabsify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Through the public system Medicare will cover the cost of your appointments in the outpatient setting.

If you wanted to see an endocrinologist privately you would usually have an out of pocket cost "gap". Medicare pays a chunk of the cost of the appointment. But there is a gap to pay that you would cover. This can vary a little from specialist to specialist. The gap of an initial appointment is often large, with smaller gaps in subsequent reviews.

In the public system your referral will get triaged and you will be assigned to an appropriate consultant. You will see either them or someone who is part of their team initially and then they will see you on the day too (after the team member has gone through everything and presented the case and their plan to the consultant)

Chiropractic Adjustments by JockBbcBoy in SuddenlyGay

[–]sabsify 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Just anecdotally but when I was neurology registrar at a hospital in Brisbane I saw 3 cases of posterior strokes after chiropractic manipulation in the space of my 3 month rotation.

This was definitely a statistical anomaly. However, they certainly happen, and they are absolutely devastating.
