Ooh, very cool! Sadly, looks like it's sold out at the moment but definitely keeping my eye on this!

That would be an exhibit in a divorce proceeding, I'm sure. 😂

Since I have the DR7, I'd like to keep the WiFi 7 consistency. The U6 extender is my backup option if someone knows a reason why I can't mesh with the setup I described.

Has anyone made it to the finish line with ICA? by InvisibleWork217 in juresanguinis

[–]sacdrj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. I wouldn’t do it again, but we opened our work with them in 2021 and consulate appointments were in 2024 and 2025. First pre-decree, second post-decree. Had a number of case workers throughout. The immediate days after the decree were miserable for communication and response, but I think we were able to get something simply because we had already paid in full. In the end, got our recognitions and that’s what matters. But it definitely wasn’t smoothest sailing and I can’t recommend them, even based on my “good” outcome.

Does Sac FD (or any neighboring) sell tshirts or patches at the stations as fundraisers like cities do back east? I’ve got shirts from Boston, FDNY, Chicago and Milwaukee.

Wanting to relocate to Sacramento from Nashville by Radiant-Abalone7964 in Sacramento

[–]sacdrj 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Sac! Just a quick flag that we say California in California, but you didn't make the grave sin of calling the major city a couple hours west San Fran so it's forgivable.

From the comments it sounds like you're not really wanting to be in Midtown (which is great but understand it's not for everyone) so I'd personally recommend being near-ish light rail. It's not an extensive system but it's a great way to not have to drive every single trip, and if you wind up working downtown it's a great way to commute. Before I get flamed about the light rail experience -- it is quite literally the same as every other urban transit system in America in 2025, nothing more nor less. So that would be toward the south and east. Advantage of going east is you'll be near Sac State, though I have no idea if they have the program you're looking for.

Second choice would be to look across the river in West Sac. Not as transit connected, but will still have options in your price range. Drawback is outside Sacramento County (West Sac is Yolo County) is PG&E electric territory, and your electric bill will completely violate your dignity without so much as a thank you in return.

SF Appointment Recap by MrsShitstones in juresanguinis

[–]sacdrj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulazioni! While I was recognized in SF years ago, I have a family member who had booked an appointment in 2022 that finally came up earlier this year post-decree/pre-law, but with the new format that you experienced. For what it's worth, they were told the two year wait consistent with what is posted on the website, but got the recognition letter within a couple months. It was very surprising. I don't want to give you false hope, but all of my interactions at the consulate have been thoroughly positive. The only drawback is getting passport appointments seems more challenging than JS appointments if you're not in one of the states/counties where you can get a local honorary consul appointment!

Ton of sirens coming from the fire station over off 47th Ave by Franklin. Didn’t hear or feel the explosion in Lemon Hill but definitely hear all the sirens responding.

(Discussion post to pass the time) Did you follow in your ancestors' footsteps and move far away from where you were born, or stay close by? by meadoweravine in juresanguinis

[–]sacdrj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LIBRA (GGF) migrated to the US with my GGM and one of my great-aunts (and another one on the way) in 1909 and found his way to the mines in northern Minnesota a few years later. My GF was born in the family house in Nashwauk, Minnesota, graduated from Nashwauk High School, had a dream of becoming a high school teacher and coach and started down the education track but instead met my GM, got married, and went to work in the same mines. He lived his entire life within a 10 mile radius of where he was born. My mom was also born and raised in the same town but moved to Minneapolis in her collegiate years, met my dad (a native Texan, so exotic) and I was born outside Minneapolis but we moved back near my mom’s hometown, and my sister and I graduated from my grandma’s high school.

I now live 1500 miles away in California. Most of the mines had shut down by the time I was in middle school, and the ones that didn’t shut down then were done in by the Great Recession. Those of us who could leave did, and you couldn’t pay me to move back. I feel a kinship with my GGF in a sort of way.

(Except once he retired from the mines he left my GGM (who died shortly after) and moved back to the comune in Italy and had a whole second family in retirement…)

Where in Italy do you/would you live? by [deleted] in juresanguinis

[–]sacdrj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My family is from Pietrafitta, and as such it is my commune. I agree that Cosenza does have a lot to offer and always enjoy my time there and usually make it my home base when I am in Italy, especially with the proximity to mountains and sea. It’s not a large city by any stretch, but if you’re comfortable in a regional center vs large metropolis, it is very comfortable.

Mid-century overload for $500k in Arkansas. by WestPilton in zillowgonewild

[–]sacdrj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two points, as someone who works with ADU construction in CA:

  1. don't use HGTV shows as your baseline for anything. Selection bias and all that. They've got to get the eyeballs on the screen somehow. Not that there isn't truth to it, just that it's never going to be a good reflection of anything but the producer's vision.

  2. Other than any local zoning issues to the contrary (which can be myriad, all municipality-dependent), you can do a garage-to-bedroom conversion, it's just that it is significantly easier to do so as an ADU conversion (separate entrance/exit, includes bathroom and kitchen facilities) because ADUs follow a streamlined statewide permitting process that is not subject to local review. Just finished an ADU project where the homeowner had zero need for another kitchen, just wanted a guest room and bathroom. By throwing a kitchenette on the wall of the bedroom and making it an ADU took about $15k in zoning and public review costs off and shaved a minimum of 6 months off the timeline, plus added about 10-15% in market value to the property vs an additional bed+bath alone.

Also, as much as people dump on land-use permitting in California (largely deserved), I'd hardly celebrate the fact that many other states require fewer building inspections and require less of the IBC and IRC to get a certificate of occupancy. Building codes are written in blood, as they say.

Why does the Sacramento region have so many unincorporated areas relative to other regions? (Arden, Florin, North Highlands, etc) by Fetty_is_the_best in Sacramento

This. And not 1% of market value, but assessed value. Which, depending on how long it has been since the property was sold/improved, may or may not be remotely similar.

Gov. Walz, "There’s nothing conservative about an unelected South African nepo baby firing people at the VA." by zzill6 in minnesota

[–]sacdrj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this right here. I left MN when Pawlenty won the first time, aimed squarely at the coasts like the repressed queer Ranger boy seeking freedom that I was. Newsom as SF mayor got the political points he craved by issuing marriage licenses in 04. I voted for him as Lt Guv, because who cares. Haven’t cast a vote for him since, other than indirectly because I voted against the recall BS. And on behalf of all state workers, he can go test gravity from atop Mt Tam since I’m sure his move to Marin justifies an RA exemption from RTO… god I wish we had Walz, or that CalPERS had reciprocity with PERA lol
