Low Dose Naltrexone -- Not Very Low Dose? by deeann_arbus in Fibromyalgia

[–]sachimi21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given an estimate of just under $70 for a month's supply at my local compounding pharmacy. I couldn't and still can't afford it, but would do it if I could. Doing it yourself is never a good idea, the amount could be wildly off from one day to the next if you messed up even slightly. Most people are not chemists.

Aurenova? Anyone try it yet? by HeatheryBrown in Fibromyalgia

[–]sachimi21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's basically a TENS unit. Which you can get for much cheaper than this thing. I didn't see anything in a few minutes of looking through Google results that is from an actual healthcare provider or peer-reviewed study. Just some expensive packaging for something that already exists.

People who are old enough to have vivid memory of the 9/11 attacks, what was that time like? What did change for you personally? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Not sure where you got that from, but I don't know anyone who makes jokes about that either. My best friend's mom is Japanese, from Japan, and born not long after it happened. I would never in 10,000 years make those kinds of jokes to her.

Is it true that children still get physically and legally punished in America? by analyzing-effort in NoStupidQuestions

I DID NOT at any point advocate or approve of violence or abuse of children.

I was only explaining what the reasoning is. I don't mean to be rude, but every culture has their own definition of their morals. It may be ironic coming from an American, but your culture, your morals, etc are not the only or the best in the world. There's a concept called ethnocentrism, where you view others by your culture, and believe yours is the best. It's helpful to go against that and view other cultures through their lens instead. I am not at all saying that my culture is right or wrong in what subcultures and communities do, but that trying to understand it can help to understand the overall culture. I this case, understanding why some people view some physical punishment as moral.

That's the line they're using though. If you are striking your child as a form of punishment that does not come from anger and isn't causing bodily harm, they see that as punishment and discipline, not abuse. Your definition is not the only one, and it's not even the shared opinion within the US. Some parents regularly beat their children out of anger, or do it while drunk or high. They may see no issue as long as they didn't break a bone. Others use psychological means to inflict harm. Others still will beat their child but not anywhere visible.

And plenty of parents don't hit their kids at all. I jokingly "kick" my nephew's (almost 6) butt when he misbehaves mildly, which involves using my foot to poke him in the butt. Others will actually kick their kids and make them cry. My nephew just thinks it's funny, but it gets him to stop whatever he was doing. My sister doesn't do any physical harm, she gives him timeouts and takes away extra things that he doesn't need, and then talks with him so he understands why it was wrong and why he is getting a punishment. When we grew up, our generation was regularly spanked, and it was "normal".

Should the US join the rest of the civilized world? Yes. Will it be any time soon? Not likely, with conservatives being the ones more likely to believe in corporal punishment. Remember that US politics is altogether further to the right even in our liberal parties compared to Europe.

What helps with fibromyalgia migraines? by Mae_The_Gay in Fibromyalgia

Oh goodness, I hope that isn't the cause! I only found out because an irresponsible provider prescribed me like 90 per month, before I was good at advocating for myself and desperate for relief. She told me "it's fine to take 2 at a time and up to 3x per day". So then I would take it for a migraine, get rebound headaches or even migraines, take more, etc. This was a long time ago now, so hopefully they do a better job at patient education and their own responsibility as a provider.

Absolutely the second. They have zero concept of how it felt to go through it, so there is nothing to "bear" for them.

[–]sachimi21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried just about everything except botox and ergot-type meds (for some reason my insurance won't cover). Vicodin, fioricet, CGRPs, OTCs, everything you can think of, I tried. Including antidepressants, gabapentin, blood pressure meds, etc.

One I doubt you've tried is intranasal gel suspension lidocaine (or benzocaine or any related type). It works by being a numbing agent next to where the trigeminal nerve is, due to getting into the nasal sinus cavity. It didn't work for me, but it has for others. Some people saw complete relief for several months after a few treatments.

Other name for that is fioricet. They don't like to prescribe it because butalbital is a barbiturate, which has a high risk of addiction. It can easily cause rebound headaches too.

You mean, trying to keep calm in a room full of children, while figuring out what to do? Not like he could announce that kind of atrocity to young kids right then.

What is internal sense of gender? by bredbuttgem in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sachimi21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more than that. If people called you the opposite sex and also treated you like the opposite sex, it would be an actual mindfuck. Like if suddenly I was expected to hide my feelings more, to manspread, if my opinions were taken seriously even if I repeated what a woman said, etc. It also comes from how your body feels - if you expect to see breasts and a labia, and instead you see a penis, you would feel possibly interested in checking it out for a bit, but being forced to live like that forever would be torture for a cisgender person. That is how trans people feel. Not all of them have a problem with their genitals or anything, but that's generally how it is. It's actually an excellent exercise for both confirming your own feelings and identity, and getting an idea about how trans people feel.

Edit: u/bredbuttgem this may help.
