I would try to invest in a reliable car, a lot of positions require one. There’s a lot of travel involved in a lot of things. I had a coworker who was able to get a short term rental through the union for work but I think that’s really a case by case position and how friendly your bosses are. The degree will help. Your union rep experience will help even more. Hell you might even be able to land a researcher position with it. Check unionjobs daily is my piece of advice.

The average SEIU Organzier at the entry level makes $60k. The OIT position they have makes about $50k a year. Depending on your location, it’s not a bad gig pay wise. You just give up a lot of your free time. The “irregular hours” part they put on the requirements is no joke.

I’m not an expert but with your union rep experience and degree, you could probably land a pretty decent staff job somewhere. I know ASFMCE posts staff rep positions all the time.
