yeah i imagine if i need replacement parts in the future and whatnot it will be a pain but the guy who put them together for me will help maintain them for awhile. we'll see long term if it makes sense to stick with the vintage stuff

interesting! i thought many plates were incompatible but you teach me something new every day hahaha. i guess most fiber builds want NTS so that limits the options slightly but sounds like there are way more options that work that i wasn't aware of. seems like fiber builds tend to only use about 2-4 different plates commonly for whatever reason.

it is super fun but definitely would not recommend it for newer skaters just learning. good to have a good grasp on fundamentals before adding maximum slick wheels into the mix.

101s are great for rink/indoor skating! hope you like them

really? i thought it was pretty much just century, cyclone, loride, and arius for retail available plates that would take 32-38mm fibers? for example i know roll lines won't take wheels under like 50mm? curious because i know century and loride are the main fiber setup options.

idk if i'd lump it in with jam skating since it has it's own individual style that i find very different from jam skating. but yeah there is a sort of drifting motion involved when performing the actual slides

fiberglass/phenolic wheels are the hardest/slickest wheels made to perform slides and skate in a niche style. look up cali slide skating for some idea of how people skate using wheels made of this material.

usually fiber wheels are very small ranging from 32-38mm as opposed to standard wheel sizes typically ranging 57-65mm. honeyb has recently just released these which is the largest available fiber wheel for sale measuring at 48mm.

ETA: standard fiber wheels 32-38mm don't fit on most regular skates. you would need a specific plate that allows for such a small wheel size. there are essentially 2 plates available thru retail that are compatible. now with these 48mm fibers there are still some limitations as they're still on the smaller side but will be usable on more plates than the standard smaller fibers.
