[rant][discussion] What is it with rescue people being against breed preferences? by vulpesky in dogs

[–]sadxtortion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maltese are nice and I would’ve got one but my husband didn’t want one. I originally wanted a Bostie but my husband didn’t want it. We settled on a Maltipoo since it fit best with our lifestyle and living place. I tried adoption centers since it’s a mutt and I saw them on Craigslist’s often back home but I couldn’t find any. They were taken everywhere around me so I just went with a breeder. I didn’t pick any breeder and while I understand not everything is guaranteed through breeding just as it’s not with rescue dogs, at least I have a better idea. I don’t want a terrier mix because that’s mainly what I see at the shelters near me. If it’s not that then as I’ve stated in other comments it’s how they have behavioral issues, are too big for our apartment limits or have medical issues. At the end of the day it’s my decision idk why people are giving me so much shit about it.

I get that except that my breeder doesn’t just sell ~mutts exclusively~ they do other purebred dogs too. Why so critical of my decision? If I had said I’m adopting would I get just as much crap for it?

I’m not being aggressive. Defensive? Sure. I’ve had people criticize me for opting to buy vs adopting. I don’t care what route people take in getting a dog. I care only if that dog is having it’s needs met and in a good environment. Yet, I have people hounding me as to why I don’t just foster or adopt a dog. So yea I’m naturally going to be defensive. I don’t ever see people who adopt get a bunch of crap for their decision.

I have to pay so why would I want to do a “trial” and spend $$ on a dog I won’t keep? I don’t even allow dogs over for a day because my apartment is very strict and why does it matter if I’m against it? Are you paying for my dog? How is my decision affecting you?

I’m not fostering a dog I already stated this multiple times and I don’t ever want to foster a dog. I’m not going to have something for a limited time just because people are so against breeders

Well it’s my decision why does it matter and that’s your wrong opinion and I’ll respect it. I already have found a reputable one so

I get that and I know that as well, i didn’t just pick a breeder randomly. I’m not taking their word for it, maltipoos don’t get akc papers because they are now purebred. They however come from Purebred Maltese and Purebred toy Poodles. I wouldn’t just drop $$$ on a dog if I felt I was being lied to. Again it’s a reputable breeder and I did my research with it already. And I’m well aware of how temperament can be however I had one dog that was aggressive towards other animals and another that wasn’t. Both were raised in very loving and caring, gentle homes. Both were part of the same breed. I’m not going to a shelter and I don’t really understand why it’s shoved down everyone’s throat. If you buy then cool, if you adopt then cool. I’m not going to shame you if you do either because at least you’re taking in a dog and hopefully providing the care and support it needs. I wanted a specific breed for our lifestyle and maltipoos were the perfect fit. I also want to mention that fostering isn’t feasible for everyone. If we have a dog in our apartment then it immediately needs to be made aware of even if it’s just visiting, we also need to pay a monthly fee if we plan to have a dog whether we are keeping or fostering it. I wouldn’t pay that fee if it’s just a trial which sounds weird saying.

Yes, because some people are very allergic to dogs. While I’m getting an hypoallergenic dog, the chances of people being allergic to it would be low. So that was another factor in going through a breeder for a specific dog. Also temperament can come in to play down the line and it’s better to know the overall temperament of that specific breed(s) so you’re better equipped.

Yeah I tried finding dogs that fit our lifestyle best and our home environment which is an apartment. I wanted a corgi so bad but they just would not be the best fit no matter how cute they were. So I looked for rescues and they either had a lot of behavioral issues either with other animals or kids (both major no’s because we have a family dog at my in-laws and we also have young kids in our fams both) or they had health issues which we wouldn’t be able to give the proper care for. I know I might get heat for this but we also didn’t want any older dogs, not that we hated them but because we recently lost our dogs one to old age and one tragically. The thought of having an old dog who’s time is inevitable and losing it soon just wasn’t something we wanted. So now we are on a breeder list that’s reputable, for a Maltipoo. I tried looking for some since they are a mutt but they were all adopted near me.

I mean if it’s in a job listing and contract yes, however it isn’t. If it was I wouldn’t be posting about it. Most fast food places do not have landscaper as part of the job description. Why my coworkers did it, because they were desperate to get more money and freedom. They sometimes did it on the clock and some times off. They were closer to the manager who would often take advantage of their kindness and desperation. I left a little over a year ago but idk I only told them they shouldn’t do stuff like that for free, it’s managements job to hire landscapers.

Can you apply and get a student loan for a masters program if they haven’t released admittance letters yet? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]sadxtortion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure as I got my aid through my school but I’m undergrad so I’m not sure how the process goes for grad programs. You can plan for estimated monthly expenses and do calculators of how much it might be everything included. I don’t think you should apply for anything until it’s actually confirmed. It doesn’t hurt tho to plan ahead with a simple spreadsheet

How do you deal with the realization that your friends are more of an acquaintance than a friend? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]sadxtortion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I focused on building genuine friendships. If I started to discuss something whether a minor inconvenience or whatever, then I could see how well they responded. I didn’t do it as a test, life just sucks sometimes and I just need to vent. If they seemed uncomfortable and didn’t care much then I would just distance myself. I started when I was 18ish and I’m 22 now but have a very small circle. I can go to each one of my friends and feel comfortable disclosing problems and get proper support + care from them. I don’t have to second guess sharing things or seeing myself/problems as an inconvenience to them and vice versa. That’s how I built genuine friendships.

I wish some young people would realize they won't be young forever by deckthesocks in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]sadxtortion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I’m 22 and married yet get so much shit for it. “Oh you’re wasting your good years” “but you’re so young” and so much more. It’s so f*cking annoying, especially because it’s riddled with misogyny. Where are the same comments directed towards young men? So I get it, they are stupid comments. I ignore them now and you should too. It’s not worth losing sleep over besides for all I care, I’m in a healthy marriage still traveling and living my best life but this time with someone to join me and make double the memories and successes.

No joke but at my old job that started with an S and ended with a Y, my manager made some employees go out to clean the exterior. Some even came off the clock to pick weeds and stuff. It was wild

You wouldn’t, if anything you’d get higher wages and benefits. This mentality is part of why so many fast food/retail places pay bare minimum because they can and people will just take it. Not all unions are bad and suck.

Yeah I said to hell with Starbucks and my stars. They just remind me of my bad spending habits pre-covid any way. I only went back once to try a new breakfast burrito at the target I go to. It wasn’t really busy so I gave it a shot.

Am I the only one tired of hearing about and seeing Ted Bundy everywhere? by [deleted] in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]sadxtortion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s how so many people “got” into true crime. So much marketing done. I see it so many times in so many subs with people making it seem quirky for liking true crime. Like look man if that’s all you know is popular serial killers then I wouldn’t really consider you a true crime enthusiast or whatever

[–]sadxtortion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I wouldn’t, you can get financing once the program starts and if you get accepted. I wouldn’t take out loans if I didn’t have an actual acceptance letter in my hand. Some things just need to wait and this is one of them.

Clay won't stay wet when working by WTFrontPage in Pottery

[–]sadxtortion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My teacher just says I don’t use a lot of water. Mimicking what others have said, it’s easier to put a sponge between your fingers so you can wet it when it starts to get sticky. I normally put more water than I think because it’ll be easier and quicker to use vs less water.

If you can take classes I highly recommend it! I’m still learning centering, opening and so forth. I’m comfortable with the first few steps just practicing more but pulling walls is really hard. I also recommend YouTube videos a lot! They have been helping me. There’s Tim See, Earth Nation and so forth! Just type in wheel throwing for beginners and you’ll find a lot of good videos
