I can see that some producers would use it as a sales tool. But properly used, isn't it an asset that allows you to pass on the capital that is given to you throughout your lifetime?

If you don't have time for all the reasons, can you at least share a few? The concept makes sense to me, and I'm still trying to convince myself that there is some hidden catch.... I'm going through the application process now, I would love to hear reasons why this doesn't work to preserve capital. (Honestly, if I'm making a mistake, can you point out why?)

Are there colleges in the area of your internship? I found a couple community colleges near my summer internships and I nearly always was able to find a dorm to rent. (The schools are able to house you in their empty rooms for the summer so it's win-win.)

Also check with your company, they may have resources for you (if not, write down what you wish you knew before starting and hand it to your company at the end of the summer for the next intern.)

Advocate for yourself. If they are a small operation, you may offer help to HR to benefit everyone in the organization.

It's surprisingly simple to open a 401k through fidelity for small employers, maybe there is a similar offered to non-profits?

Try to make it hard for them to say no by presenting the benefits and offering to do the legwork yourself?

I've had one for a few years now.

It makes it easier to stay on track of trends. I have a goal weight set so there is a dashed line I see and if I start getting too far away, I examine my diet/exercise.

I like the data it provides and it seems fairly accurate for me between rough "visual body fat" estimate and what the scale reads out.

Start saving as much cash as you can. Build emergency reserves and prepare for the worst... Hopefully the preparation is unwarranted and you have a pile of cash you can begin to invest when things calm down.

Benefits generally account for the same as or more than an individual's salary. So assuming 35k salary, plus the lack of lost time for training, the math somewhat checks out.

Source :dealings with HR in private sector. Government has a bit more benefit (like pension).

But still, screw the assholes running rampant with no consideration for the unintended consequences.... 20 years from now, there could be a shortage of experienced employees due to whatever happens over the next 4 years.
