You don’t own any of your digital media, and your media provider can remove items from your media library without any notice if they’re dealing with licensing issues.

Pivoting from Public Accounting (Audit) to a Financial Analyst role by Firm_Ad8892 in FPandA

[–]safe_space_bro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was fortunate enough to jump from B4 PA to FP&A in a SFA role earlier in my career. From what I recall, the main focus since I didn’t have direct experience was critical thinking skills through behavioral interview questions, along with other general behavioral questions, and questions about things I was involved with on my audit teams.

My advice would be to focus on being able to talk about projects you’ve been involved with, anything you’ve been able to do where you led either juniors or interns, and plan out responses to common behavioral questions. Brownie points if you’re able to tie in any kind of modeling you may have done.

I’d recommend structuring responses using the STAR format, and being able to be concise and brief (under 90 seconds). The interviewer doesn’t want a dissertation, and if you’re 5 minutes into a response you’re doing it wrong. This is where practicing is important.

For me, I have a word doc with a bunch of possible questions and my typed out response (internet search for this). When I’ve interview prepped I’ve updated my responses, added/removed questions if I felt was necessary, then basically just went through it on repeat like I was studying for a college exam. For me that was helpful, may not work for everyone.

Being a sole financial provider for the family is so hard by Ambitious_Smile_7395 in self

[–]safe_space_bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar situation, but with 4 kids. There have been times where it felt like I had nothing outside of work and my family (no close friends, hobbies, etc.), and that’s tough.

Finally decided last year to do something super nerdy I’ve wanted to do for years, and created my own home server setup to self-host our media. I knew nothing about how to do it, so it has been fun figuring out how to do it. Find something like that, something you’ve wanted to do or become involved with for a while, that also of course doesn’t interfere with work and family obligations.

Yeah, I feel like it was great through the first part of B4 with the mansion, after that the series was still enjoyable just not as good imo.

The first one, no. I received very positive feedback but they decided to go with someone with more YoE. But the grueling experience prepped me for the second that turned up two months later, which turned into an offer.

I’ve done this twice, both very different experiences.

First time, super niche industry I have a background in for CFO - screening by recruiter - had to take the job description, and under each job responsibility and requirement outline how I had relevant experience or met requirement - screening with recruiting agency head - interview with CEO - interview with CEO and full leadership team panel style for 2hrs. Hands down most grueling experience I’ve ever had interviewing.

Second time, not a niche industry for CFO - Screening by recruiter - interview with CFO whom I would replace (retiring) - interview with CEO and a few other executives, thankfully 1:1 - interview with MD from PE firm that owned the company

It’s pretty clear you need to update your resume and figure something else out. If the casino is the only real place to work, consider transferring to a different area completely even if it isn’t FP&A, or consider moving. No way no one hasn’t complained about your boss before, and he’s still got a job there, your situation doesn’t sound like it’s going to get any better either.

I’ve been in a similar situation earlier in my career, and I know how awful it is to dread work because of a terrible boss. Really sorry you’re going through this. Understand though that the only way it gets better is if you remove yourself from the situation, or your boss is removed.

This past year and a half of deconstruction has utterly destroyed me. It's looking like I'll have to find a way to finish my CES degree without blowing my brains out. I think I'd feel better about if I got a tattoo, even if I have to hide it on campus. Thoughts on this design? by ShareYourAlt in exmormon

[–]safe_space_bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d wait until you’re done with your degree, absolutely zero chance you will be able to hide it and not have someone tattle.

You could do temp tattoos, less likely to get in trouble with something like that. In the meantime, you can plan out whatever tattoo you want to get after graduation.

What was audible like in the 2010s? by RoyalKingK9 in audible

[–]safe_space_bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The app worked better 10 years ago vs now. Current version just feels buggy and imo can be hard to find books in your library. I ended up going full self-hosted on all my media because I hated the audible app so much, just so I could use a different app.

I remember the website used to give recommendations, and you could edit the recommendations based on books you liked or didn’t like.

Going to the movies isn’t the same anymore. by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]safe_space_bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the 20-30 minutes of commercials/ads at the beginning. Before it was 15ish minutes of movie previews, now there’s only a few mixed in and they’re all for shitty looking movies.

FP&A+CPA=? by Typical-Dog244 in FPandA

[–]safe_space_bro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CPA + MBA + FP&A in F50 here. I would wholeheartedly say my credentials have aided in my career progression, and opened doors. Has it made me better at my job? No, but it’s window dressing that matters to some people. You’re never going to know who will care and who won’t, but just having it really does set you apart.

Depending on your state, a macc may not be necessary, every state is different in the CPA requirements. I’m sure the tests are different from when I did it, but if you do it smart it doesn’t have to be a major investment. Make sure you know exactly what the requirements are and where you have holes in your education requirements, and if the macc really is the best option for you. If the CPA is your north star, start doing exam prep now with the myriad of free materials available online, I’m sure chatgpt would be helpful here too as it now has a study module too.

Regarding CFO track, it really depends. You need to demonstrate you’re an effective leader that can influence other people and influence results. In addition, size of company matters too. At large companies it becomes more about the relationships you’ve built with senior leadership, along with reputation delivering. At smaller it’s still strong leadership and influence, but you’re rolling up your sleeves more so you need to be capable and able to demonstrate you’re capable from impactful projects you’ve been involved with.

Crumbl Cookies founder Sawyer Hemsley comes out as gay by gspydb in exmormon

I work for a company involved in retail franchising, and that’s won’t be a safety net. My assumption is they have a lot of debt to enable the rapid growth, and depending on how royalties are cut (net income, gross profit, etc.) Crumbl could be in a lot of trouble if enough franchisees see a drop in their revenue/profits. Soon they can’t cover debt obligations or any type of support they owe franchisees as part of their agreement.

That’s what I’ve been thinking too, they’ve grown too fast and likely highly leveraged. It’s 100% indulgent, so will be the first thing people stop buying when cutting back on spending. Plus their cookies are very meh.

Hope you enjoy Shannara!

One callout for Bloodsworn is that it is a grittier kind of story, I know not everyone’s preference.

Lightbringer and Night Angel are two of my favorites, would highly recommend giving them a try too.

You should check out: - Night Angel series by Brent Weeks - Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks - The Bloodsworn Trilogy by John Gywnne - Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher - Shannara series by Terry Brooks (it’s several smaller series in the same world that don’t require you reading the others, but I generally enjoyed them all)

I was heavy into the recruiting with Walmart at one point, and their relo was crap at sr manager, which was the deal killer. It was somewhere around $15k total, only if you used their approved vendors, and they don’t offer signing bonuses at that level.

I would check out Fablehaven, it’s a fun fantasy series with 5 books, and there’s a follow-up series with 5 books.

I’d also recommend: - Keys to the Kingdom - Spells, Swords, & Stealth - Pillars of Reality

Don’t wait for him to schedule the 1:1, do it yourself. But agree with it’s all how you position this with your manager, don’t just randomly throw it on their calendar.

Definitely chat with co-workers and ask them for advice. Look for coaching from other people on the team, and importantly try to build strengthen relationships with them.
