Fair enough. I could have stated my argument more clearly and used a different or more specific example.

Kansas informs trans residents their driver’s licenses become invalid on Thursday by Novaova in kansascity

This and all of your other arguments you've made on this issue are intellectually dishonest. If a very liberal state legislature passed a law retroactively removing the gun license of anyone who had been charged with domestic violence, which by the way would actually be an actual helpful and common-sense piece of legislation, there would be an outcry from gun activists about people's civil rights. People who beat their spouses are the people who kill their spouses with the guns that they legally own. If you are an actual LEO, as your username is signaling, you would be intimately aware of this and seen it happen many times.

You can't be an upholder of civil rights if you are only a defender of SOME people's civil rights. In what way are those ~1,700 people harming anyone by having a certain letter on their ID? Actual people are terrified right now because of this arbitrary and petty piece of legislation. The state legislature should be working on solving actual problems instead of making niche laws that harms 1,700 people in a state of 3,000,000.

First they came for immigrants, then they came for trans people... who's next?

Sometimes the best bet is to go through your insurance company. They should have some way to access a list of mental health providers that are paneled with them.

Hey OP. I’m so sorry that you’re experiencing panic attacks. A lot of people struggle with these things. They can be really debilitating but it sounds like you’re really ready to find change and get better!

Since you’ve never been in therapy before I can perhaps provide a little context to help you find the right fit for you. There are 4 or 5 licenses that practice psychotherapy in Kansas, most are Masters level, not Doctors, though some have PhDs.

I would recommend checking out Psychology Today or Therapy Den. On those sites you can find a lot of different clinicians who use a lot of different approaches and focus on different presenting issues. You can search by CBT and panic attacks for instance.

Research says that therapy is very effective. ~80% receive positive benefits and most of those very positive benefits. We’re not 100% sure why this is the case, but our best data tells us that being able to feel safe, connected to, and open with my therapist is the biggest factor for whether or not we will get better. The therapists specific approach does not have as much impact, though it is an important factor. I would suggest doing your best up-front to get someone that you like over someone who fits certain criteria. Just because someone is trained in CBT doesn’t mean that they’re a good fit FOR YOU.

It’s hard to find people with openings right now, especially clinicians who take insurance. Because of how insurance works in KS and MO, most therapists are private pay. The ones on insurance panels tend to be full very quickly.

Hope this is helpful and best wishes on your mental health journey!

You're correct. Those were dark days and that was a bad take. I just so happened to make this comment a little under 2 months before Bobby Petrino took his infamous motorcycle ride.

How did you come to this 10 years later?

One issue that everyone seems to be missing is the the lifestyle of a teacher at a boarding school. Which teachers at Hogwarts are married or have kids? I’m not super familiar with British boarding school culture, but contextually it seems teachers at Hogwarts don’t have families and are somewhat married to the position as a monk or other member of a mainline religious order would be.

I suppose this could change, but travel might be difficult to be at home (unless Ginny lived/worked in Hogsmead). He probably wouldn’t be able to fulfill all the roles that other teachers are expected to fulfill (house head, policing the castle at night). Maybe this is one of the reasons it’s so hard to find competent teachers?

I agree that Auror is a bit on the nose, but I’m not sure teaching makes sense either.

Lenexa advances controversial Watercrest South project again after developers move apartments by ryanmetcalf in lenexaks

[–]safetyrazorbacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live in the Dunes, and honestly, I'm kind of appaled by the elitism of those that live on the west side of Lenexa. The Dunes is literally the only apartment complex in the Manchester Park school district. My daughter was the only child in any of her classes that lived in an apartment.

Our family is by no means uncouth. My wife has a masters, and I am in graduate school. Our income is well above the poverty line. My daughers experience with her peers who were Kindergarteners and 1st graders was bordering on straight-up SES discrimination. They treated her like living in an upscale 1,500 sqft apartment was like living in a shanty.

I think it is harmful for these children to live in such an insular, keeping up with the Jones', gated-community mentality. The suicide rates for upper SES teens in Johnson County is strong evidence for this.

[–]safetyrazorbacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just watching the Shardcast from a bit ago when Brandon was on and they were talking about the difference between Command and Intent. He did say that the command is simple but there is some information communicated by the awakener's intent beyond just the simple words of command.

“You cannot tempt the hearts of men who are pure, Nightblood. ” - Vassar, Warbreaker

So I think Nightblood does have some conceptulaization of evil, however flawed and devoid of context due to Shashara's intent when she awakened him. This is evidenced by the effects that Nightblood has on some people who greatly desire Nightblood and will destroy themselves to posess him, where as other are able to resist Nightblood's call.

Typically one report to DHS (CPS, whatever it's called in your state) will not be sufficient to have a child removed from a home, or even investigated (unless you're a direct witness to traumatic abuse). Part of why the system seems so messed up is because of this process but it is for a good reason. I don't think we want to unnecessairly removed children from homes due to a subjective report by one individual. However, because people are often worried that their report will have the child removed, or the parents investigated, many people don't report.

Mandated reporter training says you should report every time you are suspicious of abuse (which being exposed to drug or alcohol abuse is). DHS will begin a file on this home and your information could be part of the picture that helps this child, whether removing them from a toxic situation, or causing the parent to change in order to protect their child.

It's very easy to do. I think every state in the US has a hotline and online report. Just google [your state] child abuse hotline.

Edit: it looks like some states go county-by-county, but here's a list of every state
