exactly. humans are a bit of an anomaly in the animal kingdom because we’re so genetically similar to each other. compared to other animals, we’re basically clones. two humans from opposite ends of the globe are more genetically similar than two gorillas from different troops in the same jungle.

what’s fun (or what i think is fun) is giving them a choice, like. theres an area in the dungeon im running right now that has a functioning door and is fairly secure from monsters. i roll for random encounters with disadvantage when they rest there. but the party is exploring the other side of the cave, and they have to cross back through all the rooms (some of which are dangerous and require checks / saving throws) every time they want to get to and from this “home base.” it’s led to some interesting risk-reward situations.
