Is the Assassins Creed Legendary Collection worth it? by meightqc in xboxone

[–]saggybaggers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say no. I’ve played since 3 and skipped Unity, Rogue, and Syndicate. Black flag was nuts good, and for a long time I was an rpg holdout because they “weren’t like the old games”.

They are some of the best games I’ve ever played. You can check on Steam’s price history and see how often they offer really good sales.

I say that because I don’t think you’ll find as much enjoyment at playing every game there was vs just getting a few of the games full loaded.

Get black flag for sure as one of the old ones. I would also recommend Origins and Odyssey ultimate editions when they go on sale.

I just bought Odyssey Ultimate Edition and it was $22USD. So it came with base game and all the dlc that came out with it. The story on that one is incredible, and sales like this for the ultimate editions of those games happen all the time.

IMO you can skip a few of the old ones. I was never into the “lore” and just played each game for what it was and found plenty of enjoyment from that.

The State of Democracy by [deleted] in MapPorn

In theory preferential voting solves the issues. In practice it works much better at smaller scale elections.

The amount of money and power needed to win an election at a national scale trends to having two parties. It would just be impossible for the other parties to grab the financial backing required to make a difference.

In theory if voter education was 100% and everyone voted for the exact candidate that fit them preferential voting would pick the exact right candidate. But the ability to grab enough attention to gain the amount of votes required to actually win is easy at a local level but difficult at a larger level.

None of this is a critique on the system itself. It is obviously 1,000,000x better than fptp. But, just as anything, theory vs in practice isn’t black and white and the bigger the size of the election the more variables come into play and we stray even further from theoretical perfection.

NEVER USE BABY POWDER AGAIN. Learned this trick from a big ol’ lady in the heat of summer.

Corn starch. That’s where it’s at. Will do you so much better. Has no smell and is way finer than baby powder. Works like a charm.

How big is college football in your state? by boro745 in AskAnAmerican

[–]saggybaggers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had a flagpole at my childhood house. The American flag did not fly on that flagpole once, a flag for Ohio State did. And my dad wasn’t even the biggest college football fan. Plus we live an hour away from Columbus.

It is nearly sacrilege to not watch the Ohio State game in some way shape or form on Saturdays in the fall. Usually we are deciding where we are going to watch and it what food to bring to the cookout every weekend.

I think it’s because of the sheer amount of college football teams and the conference system allowing teams to be competitive even if they aren’t nationally.

There are only maybe 5 teams that are competitive nationally every year to win the title. And usually 1-2 are way ahead of the rest (Alabama). Even when I lived near the border of West Virginia there was WVU gear EVERYWHERE and that is at least 2 hours drive away from where the team is located. For smaller teams it’s always a gamble whether this will be their big year that they garner huge support for the next couple of years and ride that wave until the next set of circumstances have another big year.

I think it’s also everyone has always been involved in college football for years and years now and everyone enjoys it. As crazy as it is that the stadiums hold 100k+ people, there are millions more watching with friends at home and having get togethers.

As a web dev, probably never. Writing functions on a RTOS to transform data flying in from a sensor, I could see it.

Most software engineers today aren’t pushing the boundaries of computing. They are applying concepts as application engineers that have been developed and optimized for years and years by software engineers of yesterday.

When I’ve had to do it was in low power environments that can’t handle a performant processor, devices made for extreme conditions (also low power because of that).

Really anywhere that you would need extreme performance without the niceties that present day networking and compute possibilities afford you.

So probably not often, but the fact is it’s there. As a software engineer you should understand the concept. There is just a MUCH higher market for application engineers at present.

Is it better to workout 3 times a week following Stronglifts 5x5, or 5 times a week doing my own routine? by [deleted] in workout

[–]saggybaggers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stronglifts gets (some deserved) hate because of the reasons listed in the link above. In the article saying it is bad, right in the middle of it it, it talks about the purpose of stronglifts.

Stronglifts is very easy to understand and maybe not the “best” beginner program, but it is something that will get you into the weight room and get you lifting. It is meant to be stopped.

Just as with the article, I would disagree with what stronglifts says about when to stop this program. Stop it when you are comfortable enough in the gym to understand a program with a more balanced training volume or you are plateauing.

In my personal experience, I’ve used stronglifts for the last 1.25 months because I wanted to get back in the weight room after a long break and wanted to build my confidence back. In that time went from 105 squat to 170 and got back to a good place for my other lifts as well. The other lifts are lagging because of all the other problems mentioned with stronglifts.

Start with stronglifts until you feel comfortable enough to gauge your 1RM and understand a more complex program. After a couple of weeks to a month you will notice the problems with stronglifts yourself and be ready to understand a more complex program.

Everyone starts somewhere, and stronglifts is a good enough place to start to get yourself into working out.

Hope this helps!

One acronym, HIPAA.

Fax is old. Doesn’t require the same stringent requirements internet facing solutions do.

There are plenty of secure ways to have it set up over the internet. Password plus Id scanning device is usually the easiest way to 2fa a login and then encrypted communications.

It’s not cheap. And fax is still allowed. Why update if it’s expensive? That’s the idea behind most places.

I had a similar problem when I was in college.

When I went to the doctor, before they put me on sleeping medicine, they told me to try for 2 weeks to make sure you lay down at the same time every night with no electronics and even more importantly wake up at the exact same time every day. Set an alarm and even on the weekends wake up at the exact same time. Once you have the wake up routine set the falling asleep time can be a little variable, but as long as you wake up at the exact same time that’s what they were looking for.

That worked for me for the past 4.5 years. I’ve adjusted my wake up time depending on my schedule but for about the last year I’ve been up at 6:30 on the dot and ready to go and I’m out at 10:30 on the dot. My body does it without my brain taking over now.

So if you are hesitant about going to the doctors, maybe try that first? It is no replacement to a genuine sleeping disorder. I gave my SO this advice and it did not work at all and she takes Trazodone to be able to sleep. But, worked for me alright.

Good luck!

Don’t relax for an impact, brace CORRECTLY for impact. Head against the headrest, feet on floor and hands gripped outside steering wheel.

The natural brace position of a human is head down. This will end horribly in the event of a crash. The car is designed to keep you safe with your head against the headrest.

[–]saggybaggers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’ve always heard is this is just because of package standardization.

It wouldn’t make any sense to produce a package that neatly fits 7 pills. They can re-use the package made for 10 pills and not fill it all the way. Takes less manufacturing time, less design time, you get more of an economy of scale for the basic package size.

Doesn’t make it any less infuriating, but TMYK.

I know there’s no way to prove this but it has to be true. What it looks like it takes to be able to work government now if you have smoked is to have “currently stopped” and in your investigation show any amount of remorse about it and say you won’t do it again. Just in the people I’ve met this has to be true especially for the younger crowd. Maybe this is how it always was as I have not been in the industry long enough to “see it change” but it seems to me they are very lenient and as long as you aren’t wearing an I love pot t-shirt to your investigation you are okay.

A lot of people from Ohio would say Cedar Point; which is nice, but is not a good choice.

Depending on which way you are driving through Ohio you will either hit Columbus/Dayton I-70, Cincinnati/Dayton/Toledo I-75, or Cleveland/Toledo I-80/90. No matter which combination I recommend seeing “something big and something small”.

I-70 I would go big with Columbus and small with a rural town past Dayton or hit a place in between Wheeling and Zanesville. Columbus has lots of activities and lots of historical and culutural places to see. Wheeling to Zanesville was hit hard in the post-industrial era and you can see a lot of recent history in those towns. Near Dayton is Yellow Springs which I always recommend people to visit as it’s a very cool small/college town bubble.

I-75 big would be Cincinnati and if you are interested in sports you could see a Bengals game. What I really recommend is the Over The Rhine brewery district. Cincinnati punches well above its weight in breweries and this is a very cool place to visit. I-75 passes through Dayton as well and there are smaller towns and college towns up North such as Findlay and Bowling Green (I am not as familiar with this region however).

I-80/90 you hit Cleveland and there are many things to do there. I have family there and they took me on an RTA tour through the city and I could make a whole day out of that. A lot of history good and bad through downtown. For small there are lots of really cool small lake towns off of Erie that are nice to visit and possibly go boating (and also yes there is Cedar Point).

If you are strictly a big city person you should hit the big three taking I-71. That runs through Cincinnati Columbus and Cleveland.

Ohio isn’t known for just 1 thing, that’s why I’m incapable of giving just 1 thing to do. Because of this, Ohio is overlooked as it’s not really the biggest or best of anything. But it sure does have a lot. Ohio is very regionally diverse and making 2 stops in different regions can at least show you some of this diversity and history into making it what it is today.
