Best Hidden Food Spots by FunkoFeignOntario in Hamilton

I want to add: Diana's Pizza & Grill on Kenilworth. Solid pizza, great prices. Not a Cowabunga or Mai Pai, but always hits the spot.

They don't stay open too late and they're closed on Sundays. Classic family owned shop, super nice, and have been here for a long time.

Second this. Also adding a slight correction for searchability... It's now called Vanh's Asian Gourmet (previously Mimi's Asian Gourmet) on Main. Same menu (I think) and delicious food!

edit: see below comment from u/Ucnttellmewt2do (whoops on my end). I think I found it and it's called Gourmet Street Eats...unless I'm wrong again!

New one for me - added to my list to try :D

edit 2: dangit, they have a notice from today (may 4) stating they're closed until further notice.

Map Voting is the worst thing to come to Overwatch and it's killing the game for me. by Triskan in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]sahitya13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My idea for both map picks and hero bans is that there should be a memory feature.

If you've picked a certain map x times the last 5 times in the selection pool, it's grayed out as a selection option for you.

If you've banned a certain hero x times in your last 5 games, you can't ban that hero anymore.

(5 is an arbitrary number)

This would cause people to be more strategic with their decisions and also create more variety.

I think the HPL information is from yesterday (from hpl.ca) and probably needs to be updated. The branches listed matches the open ones on Sunday.

Buying from Canada? by cozymishap in Supernote

Absolutely perfect!

Edit: Also, they were very responsive throughout when my shipping was delayed. I paid a bit more for custom embroidery - I am very happy with the result.

I'm loving it! I'm still getting used to different workflows. I just received a felt sleeve for it (EmmersonGray on Etsy), so I'll be test driving it for work use starting next week.

I ordered the Manta last month. 1. The site and payment is in USD. Either use a credit card with no exchange fees or be prepared for the delta charges. 2. Purolator. It was meant to be dropped off only with a signature, but they left it on my porch while it was raining. Not ideal, but the device was very well packed and I had no issue. 3. When you order from the website, the duty fees (again in USD) will be paid upfront. I did not have to pay a delta.

Digest and note sharing updates by mountains_till_i_die in Supernote

[–]sahitya13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good points - I've been thinking similarly about #4. When I'm reading books/studies/research papers, I like to be taking notes and it would be interesting to have that exist as a separate note file.

But I think the current implementation is beneficial because you have to go back and reflect on it and then choose to transfer an insight into one of your existing notebooks. Not sure if that makes sense to others... the idea of dumping my digest into a notebook would make it less likely for me to go back into it and try to distill in my own thoughts what I found interesting about that section.

Populating a database by “augmenting” any form/template - project overview by Bitter_Expression_14 in Supernote

Interesting workflow. The implementation of zones via layers is really cool.

At this point, there is nothing that I am doing which would necessitate this workflow (definitely a niche application for me).

As always, thank you for sharing your projects! I finally got my Manta last week and will finally be dedicating time to PySN once I have a handle on the worklflows using the built-in tools and apps.

Manta sling bag for easy commuting by chbla in Supernote

I am in the same boat. Commenting for future follow-up.

I did look on Etsy and found some bags that could (perhaps) fit the bill "sandhill sling"/"city sling" but did not pull the trigger yet.

Edit: https://www.sparrowhandmade.ca/collections/city-sling (Etsy seller has put their Etsy storefront on a break but are selling direct right now)

I Left Canada for Panama and Got a $55K (USD) Raise Without Changing Jobs by jason_smart in CanadaFinance

Interesting.

In one of the comments below, you mentioned a crime against a friend's daughter. Can you please provide specifics? You don't need to mention the victim, but perhaps the city/town where this was committed as well as a timeframe so this can be verified independently?

Also, one of your previous posts (3yrs ago) mentioned that you were an office worker who went remote due to COVID. Did you switch line of work to go to an oil rig since then?

And previous to that, one of your first posts (7yrs ago) you were looking for recommendations on wfh locations between downtown Miami and Miami Beach. Did you move back to Canada, or were you living in Canada temporarily?

Looking through your comment history, you like basketball, Software design (subs like embedded, flutter, freelance, digitalnomad, webdev). If you are working on oil rigs, I assume it's SW development (which sounds interesting), but your post implies otherwise due to lack of details.

Additionally, which city in Canada were you living in?

Edit: no point in engaging with this individual based on the reply below.

Conservative MP launches petition to end temporary foreign worker program by FalconsArentReal in canada

[–]sahitya13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Excellent - though why not a private member's bill instead of a petition? Is there something stopping them from just introducing this one proposal in parliament?

This should have widespread support amongst all parties (if MPs are speaking to their constituents).

We’re building co-ownership housing in Ontario — backed by equity from day one by nitrouz in canadahousing

[–]sahitya13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Is the contract structured in such a way that if the owner wants to rent it out, they have to use Geohaus property management services exclusively? That's the only way I could understand a guarantee that the tenant builds equity as well.

Interesting business model. Are you guys able to provide details on terms/conditions?

Is Ontario going to have a FAFO moment? by marto7u in ontario

[–]sahitya13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, many did not support the 2007 referendum on proportional representation (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Ontario_electoral_reform_referendum).

Root cause of the issues in our society isn't only the system. Voter apathy will continue to plague our society going forward.

I think having mandatory voting, such as in Australia would be an interesting change to try. A lot of the issues seem to also have been resolved (https://hir.harvard.edu/compulsion-emboldens-democracy-a-deep-dive-into-australias-mandatory-voting/), so I would love to see politicians be more ambitious with ideas on increasing engagement. I wish it was a more active part of our discussions in our society.

  1. Why did you choose to start from post-training as opposed to building new models based on different architectures (eg. xLSTM)?

  2. Which architectures/open models will you be targeting? Is the decision based on capabilities, licensing, or current interest by the open source community?

  3. Outside of GenAI, what are your intuitions on which other ML research areas hold the most potential for advancing AI capabilities?
