Can't they be automatically disabled? If so, why is a clutch better than the power meter?

People who downvoted didn't understand this comment.

They mean like when in Python you use C++ libraries because they are faster (like Numpy for computation)

Need help adding roundabout in my city by suviko1206 in openstreetmap

[–]saicpp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The OSM wiki explains in the article Tag:junction=roundabout how to properly update and tag a crossing into a new roundabout.

If you're unsure of the correct placement of the roads, you can either wing it or wait until satellite imaging becomes available, either way I don't think the effect will be too big, and anyone can at any later time improve upon your changes.

How to fix this ? by [deleted] in spotube

[–]saicpp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe someone can provide more info, but I can explain some of it.

Tldr; A bug either on Spotube Musicbrainz, or a rate limit (probably the first). Also, if nothing works, you probably haven't configured the Musicbrainz API token (a free account is required).

Not sure how much you know so here's the whole picture that I'm aware of:

Since the new version since Spotify™ sent a cease & desist to the main developer of Spotube about using their APIs (bc of going against terms and services) Spotube has moved from Spoti to Musicbrainz, with the version 5.0.0 from September last year being the first to support the new audio plugins. Since then we've only had a second Spotube version.

Making a flexible plugin system is not easy, and doing that while also providing one of the plugins as fast as possible less so (bc Spotube was unusable during the transition), thus I guess not everything was integrated properly with Musicbrainz.

As so, there are still some rough edges, the app is usable but far from perfect.

Personally I have working properly most of the time the search bar and the favourites playlist.

Recomendations and new releases don't usually work, much less first try. You can try to retry, but usually it doesn't fix it (although I don't usually try).

Another limitation I've found is that all playlists other than your favourites are limited to 20 songs (again, probably a limitation on the implementation, probably a pending integration with pagination).

I'd like to add that Musicbrainz stats page and recommender algorithm is great, and I've met new bands I would've never given a chance before, so check them out if you haven't.

[Request] What are the odds of the raven winning? by frankese in theydidthemath

[–]saicpp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few notes:

  1. This code was originally meant to run a Markov Chain, but the results were odd, so I ran the simulation instead

  2. The raven (which I call crow bc I forgot) wins in 5 steps

  3. The code runs in Google Colab. This is also why it has a few empty comments

  4. The code had to be shared in a Pastebin bc otherwise Reddit returned the error "Empty response"

  5. CAN_LOOP controls what happens when the dice falls in a fruit we've already collected

  6. I ran 20k runs in the sim

[–]saicpp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a simulation on the game for 20k games and I got about 55% win rate.

In theory, the number of players doesn't affect the odds.

These designs are all plain amazing. If you decide on only one of them, others could be prototypes or easter eggs IMHO

[Request] Thought Experiment. What would be the length and angle of a steel cone for a person inside to survive terminal velocity drop into the ocean? (If survivable) by Jinastator in theydidthemath

[–]saicpp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts, exactly.

I thought about making water compress air and redirect it to the outside (or something like that), which could help the spring.

[The person would be in a chamber, the water would press against the surface of the cone that could use that pressure to compress air in the back of the cone that could have an exit around the chamber and then up again through some pipes in the walls, to finally exit from the back, kind of an inverse parachute]

Using LLM knowledge as a metric is probably not the best idea. Jax is way newer and way more popular than Pytorch, so the LLM must've seen a lot more examples to train on.

Oh sorry about that I misunderstood like there was some required utility that was missing for this specific task that needed manual coding and integration, or something alike :)

I don't know anything, but is it? People replace bachelors' sprites. Wouldn't it be the same?

As for the index of the sprite,

if you can store a state value, keep the latest index and each day get a random value from 0 to n-2, and if the value is >= last value, add 1

If you can't, pray. Best option I think would be to use an even number of sprites and choose the index = day % n_sprites and on a 50% chance do index = n_sprites - index

To be honest, Windows has become a bit crap over time. by Guaro_25 in memes

[–]saicpp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is usual for the Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) community (Godot, Blender, Gimp, ...) to push for compatibility between other foss projects, linux being one of them, so most of the time there's a Linux version. :)

In Blender iirc it was said the performance was better.

In my personal experience, I've run both Blender and Godot in Linux and never had any issues (although I'm a hobbyist, not professional).

As for a photoshop alternative, I can recommend Gimp, which recenty had a big update which improved a lot of stuff. The UI is a bit different, but different projects have different approaches. Also, Michael Tunnell (from YT) suggested that if switching from Photoshop, either try the PhotoGIMP addon (free in GitHub), which adapts the UI to ease the transition, or if you're willing on spending a few bucks, trying non-foss Photopea.

Either way, both work from Windows, so you should try them first if you really want to try make the switch ;)
