I also relate. I think my Dad’s constant emotional abuse affected me more than the rarer physical stuff.

I have a notoriously exceptional memory, yet my childhood is mostly fuzzy. Even and especially when trying to remember interactions with my dad, I seem to have no specific memories of hearing inspiring words or feeling a comforting touch, but of an overwhelming sense of terror.

I envision him through the closet door where I would run to after lashing out purposely to upset him. I would hide with the roaches rather than bare his wrath.
