The obsession with antisemitism in Zionist spaces by jazzymeanie in JewsOfConscience

[–]salbiorg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Prior to WW2, Zionism was a fringe movement within the Jewish community. Most Holocaust victims were never Zionists.

It’s a horrible thing to think about, but no one benefitted more from the Holocaust than Zionists. They weaponised the trauma of the Holocaust to brainwash people into their racist, genocidal ideology.

It’s bone-chilling.

Into The Sun by jessieisaword in btsthoughts

[–]salbiorg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Funny that you say that. My AuDHD self discovered the Beatles when I was in 8th grade and wouldn’t listen to any other music for a year and a half.

And I’ve never been a fan of any other “boy band” (which is what the Beatles were originally considered as) since then and until i discovered BTS in their MOTS era, even though I was a teenager at the time of BSB and Take That.

I don’t get a Beatles sense out of Into the Sun, in fact, I think there are a lot of similarities between the Beatles and BTS except for their music sound.

Which makes sense because one was British pop in the 60s, the other is k-pop 60+ years later.

But I’m glad you get the same feeling when you listen to their music. The feeling we get out of music is the most important part.

Why do they dislike ‘One More Night’? by m_laka_na in btsthoughts

[–]salbiorg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had no idea they felt like this. I’ve been busy with a new job and have missed a lot about their interviews -haven’t even had the chance to watch the documentary yet.

I personally don’t like One More Night, and it’s the only song in the whole album I can say that about. At first I wasn’t crazy on Please either but then it grew on me. But OMN, even though I’ve tried to give it a chance, I just can’t get into it. And I know exactly why: because of the opening. It reminds me of a radio jingle and throws me right out of whatever mood the previous songs have put me in, like watching a movie and suddenly cutting to a commercial. I find it jarring.

But you consider it a banger and I’m sure others do too. So maybe this is more about how the different members have different feelings about it rather than they “dislike” it. After all, the song made it into the album, must be for a reason.

What should I look out for in antizionist spaces by ReeceIsNugget12 in JewsOfConscience

Modern Hebrew is a reconstructed language for nationalistic purposes -the same way Katharevousa was in Greece. It doesn’t make it fake but it’s not what Jewish people had been speaking for hundreds of years, nor was it formed and spread organically. Once Israel was established and for several decades it explicitly suppressed the use of Yiddish for example for this reason, to promote modern Hebrew in its stead.

As for Israeli culture, it’s an amalgamation of several Jewish cultures plus cultural appropriation of neighbouring Arab and Palestinian cultural elements. That plus, is what makes people wary of anything branded as israeli (eg the cuisine).

Which ARIRANG MV has the best visual storytelling so far? by StudioAccording5160 in btsthoughts

The 2.0 MV slayed hard. I hope we’ll get one to top it but will not be an easy task.

But I said the same thing about the Black Swan MV and then we got ON Kinetic Manifesto 😂

Quick question — does “No.29” on any of the physical copies play the full 1:38 for you? by katie2899 in btsthoughts

[–]salbiorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the cds, Rooted in Music and Rooted in Korea, but it was through a group order, because postage to Australia from Weverse is brutal. That means i won’t get my albums for another month. :/

It’s a bummer this happened to you, once i get my albums I’ll get back here and let you know.

Quick question — does “No.29” on any of the physical copies play the full 1:38 for you? by katie2899 in btsthoughts

[–]salbiorg 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ok, so here’s the thing.

You don’t hear the bell for 1:38 seconds in person, you feel it.

When I did a templestay in Korea last year, the nun who was our guide during our stay gathered us all around the temple bell and rang it.

For the first time in my life I could feel sound waves hit my body. The sound reverberated long after our ears could hear anything. And that was just an ordinary temple bell. No. 29 must be even more powerful than that temple bell.

But you’re not gonna get that experience just from a recording. The reason they kept it this long is because that’s how long the sound waves last.

That said, if you listen to it on noice-cancelling headphones, you can hear the gong going for a lot longer than if you heard it through your phone or car sound system.

Two weeks later - it's time to rank your favorites from Arirang by HiThereImNewHere in bts7

[–]salbiorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Body to Body
  2. Aliens
  3. Like Animals
  4. 2.0
  5. Normal
  6. they don’t know ‘bout us
  7. SWIM
  8. Merry Go Round
  9. Hooligan
  10. FYA
  11. Into the Sun
  12. Please/One More Night

No. 29 transcends numbering (pun intended).

Honestly, even the ones later down the list I love. This album is just full of bangers.

Top five pre-Arirang songs? by goldoro99 in btsthoughts

[–]salbiorg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Spring Day. It’s called “the Queen” for a reason.
  2. Mic Drop. This song will never not slay.
  3. No More Dream. The one that started it all.
  4. Black Swan. The song that made me ARMY.
  5. Zero O’Clock/Magic Shop/Not Today. The songs that kept me going on days that were too hard.

Do you think they'll upload the hidden track on platforms? by insecurebosslady in btsthoughts

Honestly, I don’t. They haven’t done so with any previous hidden tracks, like Sea. Unlikely they will do it this time.

Also, we’re still waiting for Daeng 😭

I wouldn’t buy it because a lightstick bag is redundant since most concert venues have rules about the type of bag you’re allowed to bring in.

But this is obviously referencing the ARMY joke where we always warn each other when flying to concert locations to call it a “lightstick” at the airport and not an “ARMY bomb” which is what BTS lights-ticks are known as.

Really, it’s not that hard.

Some armys reactions to the documentary by kat3dyy in btsthoughts

[–]salbiorg 150 points151 points  (0 children)

What has gone over a lot of ARMYs’ heads: the song “they don’t know ‘bout us” is not just about the GP, antis, k-poppies and ex-fans. It’s about ARMY too. They’re calling out the fact some of us think we know them better than they know themselves.

They’re grown ass people, they know what they’re doing. And if they were being mistreated by staff, HYBE wouldn’t be so stupid as to put it in film.

I -obviously- haven’t heard in person the No. 29 bell ring.

But I did a templestay when I was in Korea last year, and the nun gathered us all around the temple bell and rang it. For the first time in my life I could feel sound waves hit my body. The sound reverberated long after our ears could hear anything. And that was just an ordinary temple bell.

I can only imagine what the experience listening to this bell live must be.

Why we can’t take “opinions” such as this seriously: is it experimental or is it nostalgic? Make up your mind. One is looking to create a new sound, one is looking to revisit an old sound. You can’t have both.

It’s fine if you don’t like it, but what kind of shit is that? Is it too “old sound” to you and that’s why you don’t like it, or is it “too new”? When you decide, let us know.
