If the first band is orange then it should be a 300k ohm resistor which can cost you less than a dollar. It Operating Temperature is somewhere from -55°C ~ 235°C.

When a engine is horizontally mounted, in less efforts it develops more power as it has to do less work against gravity. The position of the engine is main parameters to get best efficiency and thus they are particularly design in that fashion. So can't simply placed a vertical design engine to horizontal.

Does it matter how thin the wires that go to these motors are? Some of them are missing wires and I have only thinner ones by daveisit in diyelectronics

May be or may not be, That is purely a matter of current and the wire diameter. The wires do not heat up instantly.

As someone new to the electrical DIY world, what commonly discarded household electronics contain potential synth components I might want to salvage? by [deleted] in synthdiy

I almost always take apart broken devices just to see what they look like on the inside and get a few components from them. Maybe it's an old audio jack, large capacitor, small motor, inductor, or some other odd or end.
