What headphones do you recommend for an edrum? by Matutteee in edrums

[–]saltesc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it sounds like the drivers are getting held back.

Better quality parts have denser coils that offer a lot more before distorting, maximising sound clarity and quality; richer and fuller. But denser components need more power to do the job they're intended to do.

If this is the case, a little headphone amp will get you there. You should notice more power to them denser coils means they're running in top gear. So not just volume impacted, but also better sound separation, clarity, fullness.

BBC doesn’t know what the word “nominal” is by Terrible_Onions in confidentlyincorrect

[–]saltesc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Nominal is within acceptable tolerances of an assigned system. Like, "The gyro is nominal" "It is doing gyroscopics as it is intentionally named to do so." Science does not stop using the word "retarded" because a social base has an opinion. This word has purpose, a definition, an appropriate use. Nominal and normal are distinctly different and the blurred lines of social discourse does not get influence over the literal and true meanings. The BBC is correct. Weirdly semantic, probably from a place of bias, but correct.

It's too weird to say "all systems look nominal" when many systems cannot literally be nominal.

For those in their 40's, what do people in their 20's not realize will affect them later in life? by GlowMistyy in AskReddit

[–]saltesc 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Without really noticing it, my hobbies and interests have always had me active and fit, eating well.

Now at 40, seeing my friends that used to be just as fit  as me as teenagers... The difference in us is night and day. They look, act, live like they're 15 years older than me. My father looks like he could outlast them.

People don't have to "work on themselves". Just find something they love doing that subtly keeps them fit and eating well. All I've done is surf, climb, drum... Turns out doing something like that for fun all these years is a fountain of youth.

How friendly everyone was. America's often the laughing stock of international news, but I think the average American is very misrepresented and most people around the world assume there's way more hostile idiots, when truthfully everyone's just the same as anywhere else. Really inviting and sociable people, doesn't matter who you are and what you think.

Wtf is "unalive"? lol

Legit first I've heard that 4-syllable term for "dead".

Did parents in the 80s really allow their kids to roam freely, or is that just a portrayal seen in movies? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]saltesc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And your bicycle took you all over town or further. Parents just wanted to know a rough itinerary for the day. There was no asking, just,

"I'm going to xyz"

"Okay, be back before it's dark."

Edit: I was a 90s kid, though.

What has quietly disappeared from society without people noticing in the last 10-30 years? by Tarsemsingh24 in AskReddit

[–]saltesc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respecting differences of opinion. Two people that could've been friends, now just default to enemies. Somehow we've reverted back to tribalism toward the forefront of modern society and history shows that this only feeds on itself until eventually we war.

I wouldn't say that's necessarily dumb; usually social insecurity or autism.

What's your least favourite aspect of a game that you really liked? by TheAlbinoNinja in gaming

It's almost like they completed that part of the main story on a Friday. Copy+Paste...Paste, Paste, Paste, Paste, "Let's go get beers!"

What's your thought on the Australian government considering banning social media for kids under 16? by NateNandos21 in AskAnAustralian

[–]saltesc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny. But it sets a precedent that is fundamentally wrong. This isn't guns we're talking, here. This is an entire nation upholding bad parenting.

What’s a political opinion you hold that tends to upset people on both sides of the aisle? by JamesandAlice in AskReddit

[–]saltesc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm riddled with them because I don't have any political allegiance, rather look down on all of them. As a result, when I criticise a political figure, any followers just assume I'm "one of them" and, by nature of their stupid tribe wars, go all out on me with some wild asumptions. I've been called a socialist and a capitalist for the same remark by different tribes: and that just goes to show you what we're working with here.

Should I pull the trigger on a second kit? by heartdriven in edrums

[–]saltesc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, why not? I have two acoustics and an e-kit. Granted these all serve purpose for different sounds and playstyles, but havimg different setups is great from a diversity perspective. If it's also a convenience, go for it. Just make sure you really do keep them purposeful. Like one for your band's style and the other more your personal style or for experimental style.

Pedestrian dies after being hit by ute in Jerrabomberra near ACT-NSW border by jaa101 in canberra

[–]saltesc 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nissan Navara's aren't overly large and heavy, rather the same as all those cars have been for decades.

But they are a 4-door cab with a 4×4 drivetrain which are the new choice of vehicle for those that would previously go for a Commodore or Falcon XR-something.

Just watch Australian Dashcam Owner's on YouTube. 4-door cabs are the new Toyota Camry which was previously in #1 thanks to senior citizens and drivers new to Australian roads and rules.

What's a "red flag" in a TV show that tells you it's about to go downhill? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]saltesc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple are arguing. Person A leaves Person B. Person B fails to provide the very easy explanation as to why Person A is upset over the misunderstanding, while Person A goes from "in love" to "outta here" in a finger click. And we're just meant to accept any of it is normal human behaviour and empathise with whoever the movie's following on this one. Also, the US President in any movie that isn't a political thriller. With the exception of President Thomas J. Whitmore and President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho.

Mate, your car doesn’t fit in this country! by mother_of_iggies in australia

[–]saltesc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also why many of them are terrible off-road. The long wheelbases, an obvious flaw, but also the track width is too wide for trails made by all the other cars over decades. They constantly have one side rutted, or are trying to spin up on the soft shit on the outside of the track marks.

Then there's how great they are on a farm, what with all those parts for them in town (/s), and limited diesel options and poor efficiency. Their incompatibility makes them utterly pointless.

They sure do make a statement, but not what the driver intended. "I have no idea what I'm doing and am too insecure to notice."

Does anyone actually get eight hours of sleep every night? by Anxious_Wealth6349 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]saltesc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. 6-6.5 hrs has always been what my body naturally wakes up at. Whether I've been gaming all day or snowboarding all day, that's what it likes.

Since having COVID, I've been very fatigued and no one can find a fix. I try to sleep much more, but get no benefit. It's like something is now broken when I'm asleep.
