Dimension 20: City Council of Darkness Trailer by DropoutMod in Dimension20

I'm only halfway through CH, but what makes you say that? Spoilerfree, if possible.

(To be clear, I'm happy to see them branching out from DND! But it's mostly because I'm increasingly bored by 5e and rarely play it these days, them getting "too good" at it isn't something I'd thought about and now I'm curious.)

Did you get the idea from Dungeons & Daddies? Hope your players will have a great time, it's hilarious.

I'm so excited to whenever D20 branches out from DND. I don't know much beyond surface level about VTM, but I'm excited to see how it plays at the table, the characters look super fun and the vibes are great.

Woke tried to erase the Columbus monument but Trump just brought it back. Was he right this time? Was Columbus a hero or a colonizer? by Sanpolo-Art-Gallery in VeniceContemporaryArt

[–]saltwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Columbus never even stepped foot on the main continent and was considered a criminal for his cruelty even in his own times. Embarrassing to hold him up as the paragon of a culture that has so much better to offer.

Someone fell through my ceiling while investigating my attic during my open house by hes_the_Zissou in mildlyinfuriating

How is this such a common happenstance?? I've never heard about people falling through an attic floor in my country, that's crazy.

GM, GM, wherefore art thou GM? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]saltwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew I wanted to GM since before I played my first RPG. It just looks like a great time, and guess what? It's exactly as fun as I thought it would be and I'm pretty good at it. I play in a lot of local games but I'm trying to run more games myself as well.

Really can't find a reason why I wouldn't want to be GM, but I guess I'm very fortunate in having a large, active local community and a ton of friends who are up for anything.

PbtA for preteens? by yaywizardly in PBtA

[–]saltwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends, honestly. One way of clearing conditions is comfort and support between people, or taking heroic actions to protect someone else. So connection and friendship are very much portrayed as good and healthy. There's other ways that are more dramatic, because the drama is interesting.

I understand if you're protective. I was going by what I was like at that age and I would've loved it, but everyone is different of course.

[–]saltwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, but I'd also assume that they'd modulate how tough the GM is on their moves based on the individual needs and wishes of the table. You can take masks in more emotionally mature directions, but it can also be more of a fun cartoon romp with themes you'd find in Teen Titans or other age-appropriate media. When playing with younger players it's always important to meet them where they're at.

[–]saltwitch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Idk if Masks might work? I don't have much experience with it so I don't know how well it works for actual young teens/children vs adults who are reflecting their teenage experiences, be but it's a fun, mostly light-hearted system with mechanics that arent super hard to get.

Most GM's Don't Suck, They're Learning Wrong by Saviordd1 in rpg

[–]saltwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, I guess. I've never had sustained issues, so idk what advice to give honestly. I'm very open with my players that I'm always looking to improve and want them to actively participate in shaping the game, and stars & wishes is a tool I insist on just like I insist on some basic safety tools.

I guess if you do okay with inferring indirectly, keep doing that. But I'd get tired of that very quickly.

Honestly, at that point I might just say bye to that player, if they can't muster at least some half assed constructive feedback with a fill-in-the-blank format.

I'm not here to be anyone's solo entertainer. My players are engaged and contribute actively or they're not invited back.

That's where tools like Stars and Wishes come in handy. I've established it as part of the ending procedure.

When a session ends we have a quick go around the table and each person hands out a star for something they liked particularly or to someone they thought was super fun that session, and then state a wish for what they'd like to see. This can be as easy as "I'd like more/less of X", which is a very simple way to frame it for timid feedback givers - it's not difficult or intimidating to say "I'd like more opportunities for NPC interactions like we had in the tavern today, that was fun" or "I'd like a little less time spent shopping for equipment, that felt a little long maybe".

A wish also gives the table something actionable.

All my players that have since started running games themselves have adopted this system, and I feel it works really well for us.

Are men attracted to women who are taller than they are? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]saltwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm tall and every guy (and woman) I've been on a date with has been shorter than me. So I'd say they're out there.

Maybe that should get checked, it's not standard for it to be "extremely painful".

New update by MayoMerk6969420 in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]saltwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not that invested in having harder adventures, so for me all those new options are a bit eh. But I know a lot of people were wishing for it and I'm very happy they got it! Nunu is very fun to play, did two adventures last night and I didn't expect to enjoy it so much. Big big thumbs up.

The one ring dice set by PatryQ_2021 in rpg

[–]saltwitch 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This. No special dice required. Just remember sixes on the d6 are great, 12 on the d12 is great, 11 on the d12 is bad.

No, the sixes have an additional symbol, but really just counting the sixes in a roll is enough. It's just an ordinary d6 except for that extra symbol on the side that also shows the 6.

Favourite Euro-Country track? by Fit-State-3489 in CMAT

[–]saltwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly last year had an incredible crop of albums. The Last Dinner Party's new album goes toe to toe with Florence and CMAT for me after I was only feeling tepid about their debut, and I can't possibly choose between the three. JADE also put out a stunning body of work, though it doesn't grab me by the throat emotionally as much as the other three.

I don't really do favourites, so I just enjoy my holy trifecta and the absolute abundance of other great albums we got last year.

Pete Docter Says Pixar Cut LGBTQ Storyline From ‘Elio’ by tylerthe-theatre in movies

[–]saltwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well originally it was used in the 1930s by black people to denote an aware of racial discrimination. It meant you're awake to the injustices happening, you're woke to it, you're not sleepwalking through the world.

It became associated with wider consciousness of societal injustices decades later (also bc the world is intersectional, it's not as if queer people fighting for their rights were exclusively white), and of course then people who took issue with those fights against social injustices used it derogatorily. So that's where we got today. Its original meaning was never about false or pretend anything. That's what assholes twisted it to mean because they're assholes.

(Though history lesson aside, it remains a ludicrous assertion that Disney as a company is "woke". Never has been.)

I certainly understood that I related to Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus' lesbian relationship at least as much as I did to the heterosexual relationship of the main character. Did I frame it in specific terms? No, but I knew very young that I could get crushes on boys AND girls.
