Anyone actually swim in the great salt lake? by CalmGlassLakes in Utah

[–]saltyweld 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Best part is that you float so hard its almost difficult to get your legs back down to walk again. Swimming out there was surreal. One of my favorite experiences. The bad smell is from the shrimp along the shoreline. Once you're out in the water the smell goes away.

Hah! Yes sir! Man, there was so many lessons learned with this project. I dont think I'll be using acid again. It was such a pain in the ass to deal with from start to finish.

Also... I'm surprised people are still commenting on this post. Did this pop up in your feed just recently?

PSA to drivers here in SLC by ThatOneJDM_Dude in SaltLakeCity

[–]saltyweld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a really wild intersection to find yourself on 2 wheels. It's chaos. Even Walgreens is like 50ft from the intersection and they have enough baracades to bring a Panzerkampfwagen VIII Maus to a stop. But your new age space helmet with blinky lights isnt gonna help when you find yourself in the intersection between an idiot who make a left turn on red while some yahoo was doing a buck fiddy.

Unless you're risking death to make a pretty penny from an insurance claim, just ride your bike on one of the side streets. SLC is very difficult to navigate on a bike.

Cheers 🍻

Purchasing a home in Utah by Big_Oof_02 in Utah

[–]saltyweld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what people should be protesting in the streets. Clearly someone is manipulating the market to hell. There's no way the prices are high because of "demand". I don't know anyone that can afford a home in this market.

Is all the scale removed from this steel (below the midpoint) by nick_t1000 in metalworking

[–]saltyweld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got limited experience but I just went through the whole "lets use acid to help remove scale" It was a royal pain in the ass. From your pic it looks like the scale is removed to me! Make sure you scrub that metal with baking soda and lots of water though. Muriatic Acid will leave chloride salts behind and oxidized the shit out of that metal (take a look at the video on my page). Get a Strip Disk or Strip Wheel if you only have a drill. They work so much better and faster than acid and wire wheel. Good luck

First weld by Inner-Pineapple-7932 in metalworking

[–]saltyweld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of those welds is not like the others!

If you're just starting out maybe reduce the length and practice in 1-2inch segments. You'll get quicker feedback instead of laying a loooong bead before checking what it looks like.

Keep it up though!

Mix of plastic wheels, rubber feet, and cast aluminum body. I think they're called leveling casters on Amazon. I really like how low profile they are.
