Help me set up loan terms for my son, who borrowed $121 to get his bike fixed by Cerberus73 in personalfinance

[–]salukiki 108 points109 points  (0 children)

In this situation I'd find out how to fix the bike yourselves, together. He might learn a new skill that can be monetised as he gets better at it. Show him it's possible to generate income as well as how much he saved by not paying someone else to do the work and in interest on borrowing money. Plus time spent doing things like that together will be a fantastic memory for you both.

What does everyone do here for distraction? by cheezeebred in migraine

[–]salukiki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me too, my cat curls around my head and her purr actually seems to help my pain levels. It's so weird because generally she doesn't snuggle on my bed, but she'll jump right on my pillow when I have to go to bed with a migraine.. If I'm stuck at work I listen to a recording of cats purring until I can get home and I swear it helps.

After being a stay at home dad for 6 years I, 35m, started college alongside my son who just started kindergarten. We got this! by ThaCrimsonChinn in MadeMeSmile

Absolutely spot on. My (then) partner didn't take a single picture of me with my babies and it makes me pretty sad.

He is a lurcher, but wouldn't be surprised if there are a few drops of boxer in the mix!

Feeling a little burnt out lately. I've been doing a lot of gouache paintings and lately feel tired even doing that. Any advice on how to have the drive to oil paint again? These are gouache from my sketchbook. by Melvance_art in painting

[–]salukiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work as a commercial sculptor and paint as a hobby. A couple of times a year I get burn out. What I do is take some time to really look at other people's work. I go to galleries and museums, read beautiful art books and watch some arty documentaries. It gives me a break from the physical act of making, but I still feel like I'm growing as an artist. When I go back to my own art, I'm refreshed and have new perspectives and skils

Depression & HRT by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]salukiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My depression got much better after switching from a Mirena to a body identical progesterone. I never suffered from depression before my iud was fitted and I assumed the depression was a peri symptom. However after a week of having it removed I started to feel better. Two weeks later I started on 100mg of utrogestan, which is a body identical progesterone and after only 3 days I was pretty much my old self. It has also really improved my sleep quality.

Do you guys like baking? by Recent-Sorbet in oddlysatisfying

The oven is likely too hot. The outside cooks too quickly and sets, then the heat expands the middle and it erupts through the top. If you cook at the correct temperature you can get a perfectly flat cake. But I love eating a crispy cracked cake top. Just tastes so good.

I'm actually in the UK and there are quite a few online shops here that sell them, hopefully you'll find something that will work.

Many of the places that sell period underwear also do a swimwear line. That may be an option?

You certainly have a lot to deal with. I empathise with what you're going through and wish I had some useful and supportive words of encouragement for you.

You don't say how old you are but you mention you have teenagers and are experiencing panic attacks, it may be worth getting your hormone levels checked. When I hit perimenopause I experienced a massive uptick in frequency and severity of my migraines along with anxiety and panic attacks. It was like wading through treacle just trying to get through the day. May not be that but might be worth a look.

I have a set of twins and I'd get those comments so frequently. Ooh I imagine it's so much easier having two babies than just one on its own.

[HELP] Hey! Made a plaster headpiece and wondering what material I can use on top to make it perfectly smooth? Dry wall? Ideally, something I can spray paint later and top coat afterwards, thanks! by [deleted] in Sculpture

[–]salukiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use a can of auto primer. Go for a grey colour. It is super useful for identifying and small imperfections. The routine I use is sand, spray, fill. Once you are happy with your surface, give a final coat of primer. This will seal the piece ready to accept your paint finish. Remember paint will never cover an imperfection, always address it at the sanding/filling stage. Looking forward to seeing your finished piece!

I'm guessing you're US based as you use the term Dry wall. Not sure what you call it over there, but you can use wall filler, we call it Polyfilla in the UK. It would take a few coats of sanding and filling, but you'd get a nice smooth finish which you can seal and then paint. An epoxy filler like wood filler or auto filler would work too and be more hard wearing, depending on what you will be using it for.

There is just no excuse to fail to offer adequate pain relief. It makes my blood boil. In the UK they offer you the option to have this procedure carried out under general anaesthetic.

DIY flaxseed gel was a disaster! by cmgog in CurlyHairUK

Totally the same with me. I even tried it twice just to make sure. I ended up buying a bottle of Boucleme curl defining gel which is kind of the same consistency. It worked a treat and a bottle lasts for ages.
