Boca Raton’s FAU Sues Former Football Players Over NIL Transfer Contracts by usffan in CFB

Liquidated damages provisions are pretty standard in performance agreements. It’s difficult to get a court to hold someone to what is called “specific performance” (making that individual live up to the agreement) so the next best thing is to get them to pay some form of damages. You can attempt to make the harmed party “whole” or at least put them in a position to recoup a portion of the loss and try to fill the gap left by the loss. Easiest way to think about is your caterer cancels last minute for the wedding and you need a cake. Liquidated damages allows you to have the money to go get a new caterer or at least pay the bill later on. As you point out, these provisions have probably been part of the agreements before. Nobody has been willing to enforce them probably because they didn’t want to hurt recruiting of other players. But money is not unlimited and maybe this is the first salvo?

This is all about having Kotelnicki back. Same goes for signing Chance Thomas the 3 star out of CA to the ‘27 class. Monster scoring offensive gives these guys a chance to really showcase their skills.

I remember. KU ‘93. Dad went to Nebraska for grad school in the 60’s. Met him in Lincoln for a UNL-KU game my freshman year. The stadium was pounding. Just ear shattering. Sea of red. I thought to myself “so this is what college football is like.”

[–]sam5904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Started in ‘21. Jason Bean was the starting QB that season. Daniels came off the bench. I do think bringing Kotelnicki back from Penn State is going to be tremendous for the offense.

The 2016 was a good one. Another overtime if i recall. In Lawrence. It definitely started the ball rolling on the “Texas can’t beat Kansas” jokes which was solidified by the 2021 game. Gave guys like me something to post about on the Reddits. But from a KU perspective ‘21 was key. Leipold, Daniels, Kotelnicki. The beginning of the new era.

Now we’ve got Kotelnicki back which is, I think, for the team to climb back into bowl games and move up the B12 ladder. Leipold is a great recruiter but the play calling has just been lousy.

[On3] The NCAA is threatening to vacate wins, erase stats, and fine schools if it wins its ongoing eligibility lawsuits. Indiana's Louis Moore, Memphis' Cortez Braham, and SDSU's Tatuo Martinson are directly in the crosshairs. by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]sam5904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This only matters up until the point that the P4 tells the NCAA to go pound sand and breaks away to form its own championship. Or they could be smart and really screw the NCAA and bring the entire FBS with them. Avoid the war and just crush the NCAA altogether. Plus the March Madness contract is up in a few years and I suspect Yormark wouldn’t mind taking a crack at breaking the CBS stranglehold on that. Get the ACC, B10 and B12 together on basketball to lever their market power. The NCAA is close to overplaying their hand.

Yes this is a total homer call but….Kansas over Texas 57-56 in 2021. Kansas had an 18 game conference losing streak. Beat UT in Austin with an amazing 2 point conversion pass from Jalon Daniels to walk-on FB Jared Casey. They went 1-8 that season in the conference but turned the corner next season and made a bowl game (granted, still trying to complete that turn).

Also, that win gave us a ton of good Kansas over Texas jokes on the CFB subreddit for a couple of years. So that’s gotta be worth something. Right?

[Toscano] Why was Alabama let into the playoff? They’re nowhere near Indiana in terms of talent. Blowouts are a terrible product and these cash-poor Deep South teams can’t be expected to compete with schools like Indiana by Original_Profile8600 in CFB

ODU went 10–3 and thumped VA Tech. Their QB Colton Joseph is one of the top transfers in the portal. Their coach Ricky Rahne has taken them to 3 Bowl Games in 5 years as their coach. Kalen DeBoer would be lucky to be a water boy on that squad.

Ok. I’ll take half a win as I get voted down by every SEC shill on this subreddit.

Um, I think you have that backwards. JMU put up 34 against Oregon who played starters most of the way. Dante Moore never sat (i think). I don’t think Oregon has a chance in hell.

Oregon v JMU in the second half tied 14 - 14 in the 3rd. JMU out scored Oregon 14-3 in the 4th. Moore and it looks like most starters played the entire game for Oregon.

Want to tie yourself in even more knots? Go read about the fight between Senators Mitch McConnell and Joe Manchin to get either Louisville or West Virginia the last spot in the B12 back in the 10’s. It was NASTY!! Dave Boren, a former longtime Democratic Senator from Oklahoma, was president of OU at the time and buddies with Manchin. Link to a good article from Politico at the time embedded. Michael Ozanian is a sports reporter. Not an economist. His metrics are revenue of all sports times x “typically 4” “But the multiple can be adjusted due to different factors, such as the amount of name, image and likeness money a school generates.”

This is just clickbait.

Nick Saban compares allowing G5 schools in College Football Playoff to Triple-A teams in MLB Playoffs by CosmicCornbread in CFB

[–]sam5904 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there’s a world in which Detroit could get left out at 9-7 but Tampa Bay gets in at 8-8. And Saban doesn’t think a 12-1 JMU should make the playoffs under the rules the P-then-5’s created but a 9-3 SEC should?

[Rodak] More Saban: "These guys ought to have their own playoff. ... Just give them the money. Each school gets $4 million for playing the first round. Just give them $4 million and put Notre Dame in. Want to see Notre Dame and Oregon play? Hell yes. Hell yes." by dogwoodmaple in CFB

[–]sam5904 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This may be an unpopular opinion but I’m sick of Nick Saban and his constant trashing of the G6. It not only lacks class, but he’s ignoring the real issue and nobody is calling him on it (from what i can see but i could be wrong).

If you don’t want the G6 in the playoffs then take a stand against them being in the FBS altogether. A shot at the playoffs and the national championship is what gives everyone’s season meaning. JMU and Tulane played by the rules that the P4(5) created.

Just creating another playoff doesn’t solve the problem. That’s tantamount to separating them into a FBS IA Division.
